Hi I am starting a hunter alt to support my proto war!
I have read some of the posts and it seems to me that Caldone is a very knowledgeable, so I just want to know what pet do you use (or) what pet would be best for a hunter made to farm.

Carrion Bird is the best pet, there is no best pet.
#3 Apr 26 2007 at 6:43 AM Rating: Default
Yes I realize there is no best pet, but I figured there would be pets that were better at certain things. I want to lvl fast and farm once I am 70... So I was thinking a boar... on those grounds, is there different types of boars i.e. with different abilities or special ones that are better?

sorry I am very new to hunter, never got one past lvl 25

the best pet is one that fits you.
as a hunter, any and all pets can and will work for you.

there are many people who like there bears. because it has the best tank stats, even though it doesnt have dash.

Boars are liked for their great tanking too, being able to take a good beating, and give oe too with gore and charge to be at the mob in a second.

Cats are used for their high damage, and many people like the looks.

owls/bats also have good damage (a little lower then cats, but still) and also have Screech, giving them great threat on multiple mobs.

windserpents are some of the best damage dealers because of lightning breath.

Wolves are great in a group because they give a nice buff.

Carrion Birds have screech, like owls and bats. and have some more armor, and less dmg then owls/bats.

and i can probably name something like this for every kind of pet.
in the end, it all comes down to your own choice.

This is why there is an alla message system. Learn to use it instead of posting threads intended for one person.
And if you want to see Caldone's pets, they're right in his sig. If you knew he was knowledgable you must have read at least one of his post, read his sig next time.

Now Way wayp wiy saah!, it's an osmisis thing an go to Petopia!

Well....you can always get a new pet. Just test what works for your play-style.

I use the Boar (bellygrub) and the Cat (shadowmaw). When I feel like chewing through enemies at a rapid almost non-stop rate....I gran the boar. When I am on big game, and expect rest time it's kitty time.

I deny any knowledge of Caldone's whereabouts. For more information, talk to my lawyer.

Well actually, I posted that out of jealousy, but do try to follow that advice next time. We all like flaming, I mean posting, but we have the least amount of threads and most amount of post. It's nice that way =P

Not Caldone but here goes.

Use a wolf for solo and a Wind Serpent for raids. Wolves howl counts as a group buff. So each person the howl hits, gives the wolf more aggro.

Wind Serpents are nice for raids where things AE, AE cleave and such. Wolves work well here too since they can stand back at 41yds and still buff the owner.

Had cats for a while but they can not take a hit as well as a wolf could. Had a bear for a while. They take hits well but because their dps is low, they didn't hold aggro well as my cat. Had a turtle. While turtles tank melee damage great, they could not take spell damage well.

EDIT: Spelling

Oh great, you ruined it, YOU RUINED IT!!!!!! Carrior birds hold aggro better than a wolf [due to screech, which is more effective than FH] and they can give a -200something attack power debuff making them also useful in groups.
C'mon Rooke don't give him a a pet to use if he's going to take it seriously and think that best is best/uber, tell him Way wayp wiy saah tal! and go to Petopia and/or read the sticky

*pins Arthas down and lets Aethien shove the medicine down his throat*

Anyways, the Screech Debuff-

Rank 5: Pet Level 64 (29 TP). Blasts a single enemy for 33 to 61 damage and lowers the melee attack power of all enemies in melee range by 210.

Little more than 200 if you want to get technical. Good for Soloing.

Furocious Howl-

Rank 4: Pet Level 56 (25 TP). Party members within 15 yards receive an extra 45-57 damage to their next physical attack. Lasts 10 seconds.

In other words in the personal opinion of the person who this thread is named at:

Use a Carrion Bird for Soloing, it will help your pet take less damage.

Use a Wolfie Dog for Parties/Raiding as giving an AP boost to the Tank, various DPS'ers close enough will be more benificial.

Screech only affects the tank, Furocious Howl affects the whole party- in IMO better to have Furocious Howl going!

But then again, its just me, oh and I have a Sage backing me up :P

actually caldone, screech greatly reduces the incoming damage (about 15 dps per mob) for the tank, as well as set up a barrier between running mobs and the healer.
therefore, if the instance lets me, i'll use my carrion bird as it really helps the party.
if the instance is hard for a pet, i'll switch to my wolf (or windserpent once he is lvl 65+)
and besides that, nothing beats a bird for PvE.

and all 3 options are better then a cat that dies at the first blow because its huntard owner didnt put growl off and sends the pet in before the tank has hit the target with anything but 1 ranged shot.
