you can learn to summon the doomguard at will from a chain quest given in the tainted scar in the blasted lands. however, even then you need 5 people to summon him, and a random person dies when he is summoned

Infernal and Doomguard are (essentially) toys.

I *HATE* to say it (because I always wanted them before I actually got to see what they were like), but you won't use them much at all. If you want a powerful doomguard or infernal pet, I would search for areas with Elite demons around your level and go out and enslave one.

The ONLY use I've really found for the infernal is as a 2-second cast AOE stun (a poor man's shadowfury). The doomguard's ritual nobody will do with you, and when you do happen to summon one with CoD, it's just as likely to gank you as it is to become your uberpet for 5 mins.

to get the infernal there is also a grimoure of inferno dropping off warlocks in BRD and a grimoure of doom from something near the dark portal, the felguards i think. You can also do the quests.

Here are the links to both quests:

Infernal Quest Chain:
LINK

Doomguard Quest Chain:

You must first do two gathering quests before you can do the final Doomguard quest.

Step 1
Step 2
And finally the end quest:
The Suppression

NOTE: Like most have already said both pets are novelty pets...you wont use them much if ever. Its really just a way to say hey i'm a warlock look what i can do.

It's a known fact that 80% of infernals/doomguards are summoned in Goldshire.

I just used my first real infernal the other day to take out an elite a couple levels higher than me. Worked like a charm. That bad boy held aggro very well and when the fight was over he had little health left so I sent him after a few mobs and ran away. (the very first one I summoned killed me so he scares me now).

I think he will be my elite basher from now on instead of my VW, especially for those elites that are immune to fear.

In the new upcomming patch they are making it so the Infernal/Doomguard + Enslaved Demons will give the warlock Demonic Knowledge buff (demo spec) and also will work with Soul Link, making enslaved demons allot better.

So now for those 5 minuts you have the pet before it breaks free and kills you you can have your buffs. the problem is that when you loose controle of the summoned baddie, you loose the buffs, so they have not fixed this at all even if they add SL and DK buffs.

I guess i dont get what your trying to imply? you want warlocks to have soul link and demonic knowledge buffs even if they dont have a pet in thier control? or you want the old pet to re-summon upon the infernal or doomguard breaking free of enslave? i guess i dont see the "issue" here...
