How are shamans end-game-ish ?Follow

#1 Apr 07 2007 at 9:13 AM Rating: Decent
hello,
I am seriously thinking of rolling a Shaman.
A Horde it would be (no no this is not another thread about what race you should pick), and i was wondering how shamans are end-game-ish, are they needed, are they usefull, are they asked for in raids ?
Is it hard to lvl a shaman ? I heard first 20-30 lvls heavenly suck ?
How is their healing ?
How are they PvE wise ?
Well it would be nice to get some answers to these questions.
Thx in advance,
Wowenjoyer

Sorry I had to get your questions out.

1. End-game-ish. They are still a good class that could use some improvements, but overall a great hybrid. Depending on spec can be a great DPS class, Ranged spellcaster DPS or Healer.

2. I'm going to say not "needed" but very welcomed.

3. Maybe not as "needed" as pre-TBC but still very useful. Still a very versatile class can help with just about anything.

4. Yes. Depending on spec you can DPS with the melee or DPS with the mages or Heal.

5. No, 1-30 goes by pretty fast anyways. After 30, leveling is ridiculously easy especially with the right gear and talents.

6. Of the four different healing classes in the game, I'd have to say we are the worst, however that doesn't mean we cannot do it and do it well. Our Resto talents and tree give us incredible healing power and moreover sustaining power through totems and 'Earth Shield'. Our mana pool is shallow in comparison to the others, but that can be overcome.

7. PvE in general a great class. Great for raids, great for soloing. Totems rule for group buffs, especially in a melee DPS oriented party. 2H warriors will praise your name.

As far as endgame i have been both a elem/resto split and a full resto points to elem.
The dmg i did with the split was ungodly and i had mostly greens, a nice staff with stats and what not but pretty undergeared. I stay in the top 5 in av for totall stats and only feared sub roges and fury warriors.
As for instances our elementals can save a run, ever lost the tank on a bad pull?> Guess what insta tank. Holds aggro better than a prot warrior.
Wanna go resto and heal?> When i switched my chain heal is critting for almost 3k first heal , my healing stream is tickin for an ave of 75 to 80 . Plus earthen shield crit healing for almost 600 per charge. I can main heal anything while yawning,.. with the occasional tough pull which mana tide and a pot ,,,, maybe elemental can save np. Elem is gettin a marginal nerf next patch , but you can gear up so that losing 40pct of your spell cost on EM wont hurt that bad, especially if you are critting every 4th spell thats 2 free casts for every 10 without using EM. LB's crit for upwards of 2.5 for me and CL is the same bout crapped my pants when I saw a first strike CL crit for 2.9.
Shammys are very viable End Game, and quite feared from what I hear.
Anyways have fun and GL

Well..

For end-game PvE, Shamans are pretty good. Right now, an Elemental Shaman is the #1 DPS in Kara. That is pretty scary considering they are hybrids, but still shows how useful they can be.

They bring tons of things to a PvE environment. Enhancement is a bit lacking. Although having decent DPS, them being in melee range doesn't really give them any edge over Elemental's DPS. However, it's simply awesome bringing one Enhancement shaman for the melee group (to drop melee totems), one Elemental Shaman for the caster group (to drop caster totems), and one Resto shaman in a heavy mana using group (for mana tide, and more totems).

For PvP, it's about the same. But in the end it comes down to one thing for all aspects of the game while playing a Shaman....

I could go on and on, but there is only one key to being useful come end-game. Knowing how to spec/play the Shaman. Never forget all your tools as a hybrid. Don't forget that even if your brought to a group for DPS, your a support class. If you can play well, you will succeed. You must learn to love your ability to buff and heal, and support your team with purge, DPS and supportive totems if you want to be successful.

Well said Buck,
I hate it when other Shammys or hybrids try to pigeon hole themselves. The key to being the ultimate Jack of all trades is to BE just that. Keep totms down no matter the mana cost, if your there for dps keep a k or 2 MP in reserve for the o **** the healer went down situations.
