Ah, thank you!

I'm in the process of updating the FAQ to reflect the 1.9 changes. I'll work this in as I go.

Cathela, this is without question the best thread on Paladin's I've ever read - I've found all others to be tedious rants. Thanks indeed for a treatment of the topic that enhances the pleasure of the game!

I anxiously await your 1.9 updates to the talent trees!

Really nice work : )

I would like to add 4 weapons in ur (4.5) content

The first is Relentless Scythe . Although its fast it may be really usefull if u want some specific seals to proc and plus it reminds me of obsidian : O (pre 1.9)

The second is Darkstone Claymore . There are some guides on how to get this one but in the end u have to be lucky . One of the best blue combined with SoC. (i believe that this must be considered as powerfull as the A. Reapper ,but this my opinion)

The 3rd is really good if u are going with the holly tree and can be obtained easilly if u don't have a druid in the party : P.
Hammer of the Grand Crusader

The last one is Bonecrusher . Superb and easilly obtained since it is a quest reward from DM , but again u must have a really good group .

I hope i helped (palla forever) : )

#31 Jan 17 2006 at 9:21 AM Rating: Decent
This is the 1.9 build Im wanting to eventually get to. Im 54 Pally now.

Holy:

Divine Strength rank 1/5 - Needed extra point to get to free crit heal. Also adds to DPS, however minor.
Divine Intellect rank 5/5 - Increases Int, help with mana management.
Spiritual Focus rank 5/5 - Helps with getting heals to cast. (Makes for better healing)
Healing Light rank 3/3 - Helps with Amount healed by spells.
Consecration rank 1/1 - DoT/AoE Helps with a little extra damage. Also to help find stealthed enemies.
Illumination rank 5/5 - Used for free crit heal.
Divine Favor 1/1 - Free crit heal.

21 Points

Retribution:

Benediction rank 5/5 - Helps with mana managment by lowering casting costs.
Improved Judgementt rank 2/2 - Allows for quicker switching of Judgements if needed.
Improved Seal of the Crusader rank 3/3 - Chance to "double" DPS.
Deflection rank 5/5 - Better chance to "dodge" a hit. Although slight yes.
Conviction rank 5/5 - Increases crit rate by 5%. Increasing DPS.
Seal of Command rank 1/1 - Increases DPS, combined with Conviction better chance for crit to occur with SoCom proc.
Eye for an Eye rank 2/2 - Slight defense vs. Casters with crit spells.
Two-Handed Weapon Specialization rank 2/3 - Increase DMG to 2h, increasing DPS.
Vengeance rank 5/5 - Used with Conviction, increases DPS even after getting a critical.

30 Points

I chose to put enough in Holy tree to get the free crit heal, cos I like the idea of being able to have that as a near last resort to save my self/other in a tight situation. Alot of the others I chose specifically for gear I have. Most of the DPS raising abilities are to play off the Str/Stam - Bear/Whale gear I have.
I also have a Destiny (Maybe Ill try for a Blackhand Doomsaw when I get to that point) to play off the DPS enhancing talents. When I go into battle whether its up against one or more enemies, I have a Blessing of Wisdom on myself for slight mana regen. I also cast Seal of Wisdom then Judge it on my target. Therefore having the chance to gain 30-70+ mana regen with every hit and regen mana for hunter/casters that use mana for their spells/skills. (Hence where Benediction comes in) After the enemy is judged I cast SoCom for a chance to up my DPS, When ever I crit Vengeance will proc upping my dmg a bit after, to deal a bit extra. When I get a sword proc (+200 str for 10 sec) I can cast a Seal of Crusader to increase that even more. I currently have 210-ish str, a proc will give 400-ish total for 10 sec. The SoCrus currently gives me 310 Atk power and 40% faster attack speed for 30 sec on an already 2.6sec speed sword. At level 50+ you can do WPL Pally quest to get Sanctified Orb to increase crit chance even further for 25 sec, Which gives a proc for Vengenace when you get a critical. Vengeance also procs from holy dmg crits, making it possible to proc off of SoCom. So all in all I have my talents specifically set up in hopes that everything will proc well one or the other to increase my overall damage, with a good amount of mana management and healing abilities. I havent fully tested this out on my pally, but it should make my 1.9 pally harder to take down 1v1 close in level in PvP, or from a group of lower end parties. Ive tested this a bit PvE and I can steal agro off warriors a few levels ahead of me W/OUT using Rightious Fury. >_>

Any C/C is muchly appreciated. Thanks :P

Updated with 1.9 talent builds. Should be completely up to date for 1.9 now, although I'm sure I've probably missed a few things.

Thanks Cathela - excellent work. With the new 1.9 talents, though, I wonder if you could redo the math on Seal of Righteousness vs Seal of Command, with and without Crusader (your post from Nov. 9). Since judging the first two no longer strips Crusader, and you don't have to reapply judgements after 30 seconds anymore, I think the results should be different, I just can't seem to get the math to work out.

Ugh. Redoing all that math... Sometime maybe I'll do that.

Maybe.

After seeing a lot of questions about crit gear, added a question to the FAQ about it (4.10).

Right, but the point of my answer was just to list the quest reward items, since they're the easiest to get.

You have compiled an awesome amount of info...Thanks for that!! But in reading everything I can on the Pally epic mount quest, I still can't find the info I need about the arcane crystals. I have been looking for 2 weeks and have found 1!! Talk about frustrating. I know they drop off rich thorium veins or the oozed covered thorium veins but am having no luck at all. I could buy them for around 20g a piece but really wanted to earn the mount myself. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Unfortunately there's not much I can tell you that you don't already know. Keep looking for them. I've found that a level 60 paladin can make about 20g an hour by farming the graveyard in the west side of the Scarlet Monastery. (Gather up a bunch of undead at once, then Holy Wrath/Consecrate. Bring big empty bags to hold the green and gray drops.) There are also other places to farm for cash, and you might have an easier time just farming up gold and buying the crystals.

I have looked at the various builds offered and most of them are either pvp or pve raids. What I am wondering is what build is the best for a lvl 41 pally who only does pve, no raiding. Should he go the holy tree so he can heal or retribution so he can deal damage?

If you party a lot, your ability to heal is both better and more desirable than your ability to do damage. On the other hand, dealing more damage will make soloing easier.

In general it's advisable to avoid improved devotion aura since it's usually seen to be a waste of talents points. You pay five talent points for ~184 armor. I can get that much armor from armor kits and enchants. Redoubt, even if you only use a shield 5% of the time, is still often a far superior talent.

On a side note, I'm not sure what nifty name to give it Cathela, but this (9/31/11) is a build that I am currently using that appears to be different than anything you have listed in the forum. I know it is kind of counterintuitive to have both holy shield and seal of command, but I enjoy the added versatility that is provided by the ability to tank or do a little damage. And I still outheal most druids and priests even without healing talents.

I'll add that to the list as soon as I find a free minute at work, Pasty. Very much like the build I had pre-1.9, except for (sigh) Repentance.

Could someone tell me how to do a reckoning bomb? How is autoattack toggled and attacks stored?
#48 Mar 20 2006 at 6:41 AM Rating: Decent
Woah, everything I need for my seckseh pally is in this guide. Thanks to everyone for compiling and presenting it =D

Okay, about autoattack:

When you first roll a paladin or any other class, this is hotkeyed to the "1" key. Most people leave it there forever. When autoattack is turned on, the weapon icon in that slot will be flashing red.

You can toggle autoattack on and off by hitting the "1" key (assuming it's still hotkeyed there of course). You can also turn autoattack off by left-clicking any empty space on the screen (but this will also deselect your target.

If you left-click on an enemy, you'll target him but your autoattack will stay turned off. If you right-click an enemy, you'll target him and turn on your autoattack.

What you want to do with reckoning in pvp is keep your autoattack turned off until you're in range and facing toward your target. So, get in the habit of only selecting enemies with the left mouse button, and then hitting "1" when you're in range to hit them.

Thanks for the answer concerning autoattack. The attack button was the first I tossed out of my action bar as it seemed useless.

Btw, has the 1.10 patch changed where any of the paladin set items drop?
