Ok, I am @ level 20 now, and have Takk and The Rake leveled up. Here are their stats for comparision:

The Rake:

HP:503 MP:108
Str. 45 Atk. 100
Agi. 39 Pow. 70
Sta. 72 Dam. 13-17
Int. 27 Def. 100
Spr. 33 Arm. 861

Takk The Leaper:

HP:487 MP:108
Str. 45 Atk. 100
Agi. 39 Pow. 70
Sta. 72 Dam. 22-29
Int. 27 Def. 100
Spr. 33 Arm. 887

Just to note, I plan on letting The Rake go once I get high enough to tame Humar the Pridelord. I like the black look of him. Now I just need a white bear, and I will be happy for a while.

Takk would probably be your best bet. The Few HP will not matter much (one hit maybe). Also Takk's added armor should null the hp diffrence out. Since Takk's damage is so much higher, I would go with him. Everythign else is the same too. I would just go with what suits your playing style the best. Also if yo ucare about what your animal looks like you can go off that, I tend to go with what keeps the attacker off me the best, and attempt to max out my agility and ranged attack damage. But take your style and run with it.

You're right about Takk being the better of the 2. I have noticed that because of Takk's offense, he never loses aggro. I can even shout first, pulling the mob closer, then send in Takk, and he takes the aggro away from me. The Rake can't do that.

I have to disagree.

The only thing good about Takk is his runspeed. He is as fast as King B. Rake is slightly slower, but faster than normal.

I say the Rake is better due to the 1.2 attack speed. That is why his damage is lower, they still have the same dps.

When you fight against a caster, the rake helps alot more by disrupting their casts.

Aggro is never a problem for me using the Rake. I don't even use growl. All i do is make sure he has the highest ranking of claw and bite possible. I disable growl and only enable claw and bite. Major dps boost.

I'm giving Takk the thumbs up based on my own playing style, which in the end is what it all comes down to for all of us.

I tamed the Rake at level 10 with my Tauren Hunter and quickly traded him off for Death Flayer because his stats and style didn't match myself and I found myself frustrated.

On my main though I tamed Humar at 23 and haven't found anything yet I'd rather have by my side. I plan on taking him to 60 with me unless something else steals my heart.

Also, Hyukjoon, thanks for the idea of dropping Growl and just riding the Bite and Claw.

Thanks for the tip about forgetting Growl. I used it today, and it worked very well. It's hard to notice the real difference, but I have just noticed that Takk doesn't lose aggro for me. Now, The Rake only does every once in a while, but that is just my style I guess.
Anyways, like Crispian, I plan on taming Humar the minute I get to 23. Then I will have to let The Rake go just because I don't want 2 cats.

Ok, I did some testing between The Rake and Takk. I figured Takk's slower attack speed may not matter because of his superior damage. So, I would sent Takk and Rake to attack the same level and same type mob 5 times each. I timed then from the first hit to the last to see how long it would take them. Then I took an average of thier times. Takk was 2 seconds faster in killing than The Rake was. I have no idea how this translates into actual gameplay, but that was the only way I thought I could judge the two.
So, needless to say, I abandoned The Rake. Not only because of the test results, but I wanted to tame Humar because he looks cool. Well, Humar is not as good as either The Rake or Takk, but I am happy because he looks so much better.

Intersting Reading all.

Question to Crispian,

When you say he didn't match your playstyle....what style is that. I mean, I may just be a bad hunter, but I am intriuged by what you said. If you could explain what your style is I would appreciate it.

For me I just send my pet in Growl, Bite, and Claw while I stay back and Concusion, Serpant Sting, and Arcane till he dies. I enjoy the speed at which I can level with my hunter, but to be honest I am finding it quite borring also. I feel as though every fight is the same 4 things and there really is no fear of dying or strategy for me.

Anyway, I would like to hear about the different styles of play a Hunter can have, maybe it will help me enjoy my travels more.

Thanks
