Just to pick up a certain photographer's slack I'll use this extra post to note that I spent almost an hour changing the faceplate on my PSP. The new faceplate seems to be too thin though, so the charging and wireless lights bleed through so it looks a little weird, and the analog stick is a little deeper in the casing than the original so it feels weird. Added a MAME emulator and an Atari 2600, along with the standard Nintendo and Sega emulators, and even a few PSP and PS1 ISOs. Looked up Playstation Vita on the Gamestop page. Had a jolly laugh.

Too bad the part of this that actually pissed me off was the way the staff handled it. Because that was a huge CS joke. Dunno if I'll stick around or not, but I'm definitely gonna be running adblock either way.

Wouldn't you stick around if you enjoy what you do here? I mean, I like the forums and watching and interacting with the personalities, that's why I'm still around. Everything else is annoying, but more or less meaningless isn't it?

To be fair to Kao (and the site in general), he warned everyone about the google adsense thing before the advanced filter hit, and after we had to appeal the filter, he immediately gave that as the reason for the sudden filter change. It should probably have been posted as a well written more thorough post in feedback when people started complaining, so that was handled poorly, but the reason was there right away, if not the source for the words. I think one of the things you have to remember is that Kao really hated the new filter, hated the need for it, and so was just generally annoyed and that's going to make you just want to not talk about the issue.

I think there was a proposal to remove adsense from the forums, but that's not a decision that anyone you see posting would be able to make.

I get that. But essentially no one was just whining because "wah filter," we were whining because of reasonable issues and concerns with it's implementation that hadn't been addressed. The most important of which (what was used to determine the filtered list) was caused because of Kao's own misinformation.

So being told to suck it up without answers really wasn't the right tactic there. And we got it from more than one admin, it wasn't just Kao.

I was a paying customer of the site before. Now I'm not. I would have still been post-filter if the user situation was handled better on Zam's end. /shrug

Regardless of whether or not I stick around, I'm not stopping AdBlock. I did for a short bit the other day, and an ad script redirected me to a phishing website. LOL **** that.

As for whether or not I stick around, I'm not going to outright stop on principle or anything. But the forums are dying faster and faster. This thread updates slower, etc. So we'll see. They might as well remove the forums from adsense. How many people here browse without adblock?

I run AdBlock on everything that doesn't cause conflicts. If people want me to not filter their ads, they'll need to use less annoying ads.

idiggory wrote:

Yeah, this is the part that confused me the most about this whole filter debacle. It's already been made clear that these forums matter very little in terms of profit:

Kaolian wrote:
The forums are a very small, and ever shrinking portion of the overall site traffic (...) Including things like wowhead and rifthead and things that drive so much more traffic than the forums ever did.

-link-

So why not just remove the AdSense ads from the forums? For user-generated content, use ads that don't come from AdSense.

Whatever, I don't want to drag that crap into this thread. It's been discussed and argued over, and we've gotten nowhere, so Smiley: deadhorse

I'm not sure if we can discuss the specifics, but essentially you know how when you try to do anything on the PS3 and it tells you there is a system update you need in order to run it? You essentially find a custom firmware and install that instead. There's a few steps in between, but that's the gist of it. Now that Sony is discontinuing the PSP it's a little easier, not having to deal with official upgrades.

I'm definitely ESTP to a ridiculous degree, which I don't think is particularly surprising.

Not to be pedantic Maz, but cynyck wrote: "married to an ENTJ." cynyck is an INTJ.

Which is an Interjectionist, of course; meaning I regen mana at 2X normal rate when standing still.
