I know I'm late to the party, but what the ****, Zam? Why would you have a massive header devoid of links? If you're going to put everything in a drop down, you don't need a huge bar.

I also LOATHE headers that are locked to scrolling if they're a full bar on top. When it's a side bar, I don't mind them. But top bars suck.

So does everybody else.

I don't mind them if they're non intrusive (unlike this one), useful (unlike this one) and help declutter the rest of the site (unlike this one).
It's supposed to become part of a unified log in system over all of the ZAM sites (so presumably this is on all of them) but that doesn't exist yet and will come "soon(tm)", in the meantime it's just a useless waste of space presumably pushed to live by some moron in middle management or something since I can't believe that anyone who was actually working on this thought it suitable to go live given how obviously unfinished it is.

Right?

"Hey Jim, what's the state of the new header?"

"Well Gary, the template is done, but we don't have anything to put on it yet, and the unified login system isn't implemented"

"Perfect, push it through!"

"But Gar-"

"They'll love it! This is going to be great! I mean look how stylish it is! Everyone's going to be raving about how we thought to make the M drop down below the border!"

"Yup, raving sir. They'll definitely be raving."

Unless they move the site navigation menus and the search field to the header, this is the most retarded project in the history of web design. An intrusive change that serves no purpose. It's the exact opposite of how you're supposed to do it.

The Wowhead version looks like the final form of this monstrosity: http://www.wowhead.com/ - if you imagine theirs scrolls down the site as well. Gotta have easy access to that "log in" button!

I bet the M point thingy also comes from a manager or some sort of design by committee type decision, much like the current Ebay logo. Someone decided that since the point of the M sticks out from under the logo it should also stick out from under the bar, that'd be great!

But somewhere in that meeting or process they always forget that they're not actually the designers they hired to do the designing.

edit: the Wowhead bar suffers from the same problem, there's now 2 menu bars right on top of each other, it's just ridiculous.

If they could just confine the letters to the bar I don't think I'd be so disappointed.

Speaking of disappointed, and because I forgot to mention it, Mickey Mouse ears on an R2D2 hat is just wrong on so many levels. Build your own lightsaber thing looked awesome though. About 10 different pieces to assemble, and for what it was worth $20-$25 is a steal in that park.

I do hope they add forum navigation to the header, because it's certainly useless otherwise.

That's the best quote we've got as to why it's live like this.

I like how the top bar cuts into the logo drawing thing on Wowhead, that's a nice touch.

My FAVORITE part is how, if you click the "most recent post" button, you know have to scroll up, so you can actually read the beginning text of the post. Because there's a ******* dumbass bar over it.

I think ZAM's anti adblocker image isn't very effective given that the reason I'm not renewing premium is exactly because of the new features they're implementing.

Also I forgot how this site gets so much worse with ads. Millions of miles of empty space on the sides and the ads go in the same space as the forum.

It's really no wonder that this forum is dying, nobody in their right mind would give this place a second look.

I did disable my premium too. **** that.

That said, I have no clue WHY, but the bar isn't scrolling on my laptop. Now, my laptop is 3 inches from death, so I have nearly every optional feature disabled. But it's so much more pleasant.

And that's really sad. Browsing the forum shouldn't be more pleasant on my horrible laptop.

They locked it in place now so it's like that everywhere.

It's still an empty black menu bar right on top of another menu bar but at least it's not following you around anymore.

Just saw that. You just had to read my post before I could edit it. Smiley: madSmiley: madSmiley: mad

Also, why are you not showing up in recent visitors?

ALSO, also, I just scrolled up and the bar locked halfway down the screen and took 3 seconds to move back. Which would have been less annoying if it wasn't literally taking up half the screen. I'd hope that's due my laptop.

But at the same time, that would never have been a problem before.

Wow, that's really odd. Why don't they use the empty space on the side? Instead they shrink the forum. Ew.

Probably because for the first time in ages I'm just not keeping a few tabs with ZAM open because the non premium version is just too horrid.

The new bar, the ridiculously bad layout without premium and the moronic filter combined have made me want to look at this place a lot less.

I could stand the rest if it wasn't for the filter. Asylum was about the most interesting place left here for me (minus this thread when people are posting of course), and it's hard to have a no limits discussion when everything that could possibly be imagined to be offensive becomes ****.
