They hit really hard, that surprised me a few times. Huh? "You Died" crap
I actually meleed the first boss on my new str/fth guy. It's a long plow to be sure, twice I had him to two hits from dead but was entirely out of resources even after using ember and divine pots to extend healing with 15 +10 estus flasks. I'm sure it can be done much cleaner but I am not patient enough for that apparently hehe. I tried just tossing sunlight spears but I just don't have enough FP to sustain that on that toon yet for such a long fight.
Now both my mage and str/fth guy are in the new zone ringed city and it's real purty looking. But I had skipped Ariandel on the str/fth guy so I decided to go back there so I can pick up the holy bola spell since I have never been able to use it and always wanted to try it out.

Holy Bola spell is ***. I guess it could be ok as a quick knife like estus blocker in pvp. I give no ***** about pvpv though so... yeah had a very easy one shot on champion graves with str/fth guy then almost got a melee win on Friede (seriously it will be my first melee win on her 
) Phase 1 and phase 2 and I am like I got this ****. Phase 3 and she is like I will cheap *** neck grab you into unrelenting 360 spam all day son, melee me? pshhht. Greatshield helps some until she uses the cheap stuff. Think I might just sunlight spear her in phase 3 so I can get back to the new DLC. Really want to beat her once on melee though, self rules again.

Heads up, there is a glitch active that allows people to invade your boss fight as a Purple Phantom.
Edit: Apparently they are bootable, I'm guessing by using the Black Summoning Crystal.

According to some players the recent patch screwed up the Infusion system. Weapons for pro-mage builds got nerfed while pure melee infusions got buffed. For example, a Raw-infused Dragonblood Greatsword +10 went from 506 AR to 606 AR.

Oh, great. Because pure melee infusions really needed a buff compared to split damage mage infusions. 
Just beat the last boss of the second DLC. I ended up taking my mage, my fth, and my Pyro toons through first just to play with all of the fun new toys spread throughout. There is a lot of cool new loots. Then I took my quality guy and he ended up beating the last boss on first attempt. Boss had wrecked mage and pyro and then I decided meh lets play through with other toons for fun instead of beating my head on this boss wall.
Using one of the new armor sets that has incredible defense, a bunch of +3 rings, and a high stability shield I was able to pretty much tank the last boss. It was still not easy but very satisfying. Towards the end I had to do the "Ok, this is going really well. Calm down. Keep doing what you are doing. Don't get sloppy. OMG I GOT HIM! W000T!
Overall I thought it was a great DLC. Very interesting and challenging. Bit of a sad though since there is no more new DS content coming for a long time.
