So, I tried out Knight Enchanter. It's a bit over powered. Throw up a barrier and start swinging away with the silly glowing sword. Barrier recharges as you fight. If barrier goes down and you actually take damage, use super healing ability. It's damn near impossible to get killed.
Anyone else missing the talking dynamics in 2 verse this run through. I am liking the characters so far and I am sure I will come to love them as much as I did in 2. However, They feel so much more quiet then they did in 2. Been wondering for ages and they don't chime in in cut scenes as much nor do they banter as much I feel. Miss it, I don't know if it's becuase I am the "herald" they feel like they are there for the cause more so then becuase they enjoy my company. I feel very distanced from my party compared to the last one where by act 2 I felt like we were all friends.
Otherwise I am really enjoying this outing. Fire and Ice with a two mage combo seems to be my favorite way to gank mobs early game. Ice keeps a lot at bay lot's of utility. While fire is all about the damage. Love it. Enjoying the changes but still adjusting.

I feel this to an extent. Last night I did one of the main quests you get right after Skyhold. Meet up with Hawke and a Grey Warden - in my case, Loghain. I brought Blackwall with me specifically because I thought he'd be chiming in, but he was mum except for a single line. I also liked Varric better in DA2; but it kinda makes sense why he's more distant. As he points out, Hawke was his friend... not the Herald. He knew Hawke for 10 years, he's only known the Herald for a few weeks. So he doesn't fit as well with the group this time around.
Also, he seems to love getting close to enemies with AoE melee abilities

I'm loving Knight-Enchanter so far, but I'm only feeling strong, not overpowered. Against a single strong enemy it is amazing. Against several small (especially ranged) enemies? I still get hurt. I can see how it could become overpowered in a few levels and if I get some equipment that gives Guard on hit though. From what I hear several of the specializations are extremely powerful. A rogue Inquisitor with the Assassin specialization can do tens of thousands of damage for example. Blackwall with his Champion specialization simply does not die. Reaver warriors hit like trucks. But yes, Knight-Enchanter is almost certainly one of the best due to its survivability, damage, and utility. The other two mage specializations may do slightly more damage (especially AoE) but they don't have the other benefits.
Edit: Then again, I did go toe-to-toe with the Hinterlands dragon last night and won easily. So, yeah, maybe overpowered
Josie headed out to the balcony with me. Love is in the air! Mrs. Josephine Inquisitor as a lovely ring to it.
Really, I have no idea how relationships work in this game. I mean, you see companion messages now and again for approval/disapproval but is Josephine and Cullen & Co all silently judging me from back in the castle when I talk to some guy in the Western Approach? Do the non-companion NPCs have real approval meters or am I guaranteed success as long as I keep mashing the "love" option whenever it pops? It's less question of trying to game the system so much as wanting to feel like I'm actively accomplishing something with my decisions.
I killed my first dragon today. It was the one out in the Hinterlands. At level 13 with a Knight Enchanter is was actually pretty easy. Varric kept dying, so eventually, I just let him stay dead and killed it without him. I nabbed a new staff that's significantly better than the one I have right now. I can't use it until level 15 though.
As a side note, I'm a bit annoyed that you need to have four perks into secrets to get Deft Hands, Fine Tools. There isn't much else in that category that I want. I feel like I'm wasting perks to get to it.
I need to go kill a dragon. I'm sure we could take the Hinterlands one, I just haven't gone back.
Spending the Inquisition point on warrior schematics was pretty sweet. The new gear is like a 20-35% boost over the old stuff. Plus the Western Approach is rich in Paragon's Luster, Lazurite and oh so many pangolins and fire-breathing desert chickens.
I chuckle at all the romance options in the game. For a bunch of medieval/Renaissance era people blatantly based on real European cultures and overshadowed by a Catholic Church knock-off complete with pseudo-Pope, they sure are keen on bisexuality, homosexuality, transgenders, etc. I'm not complaining and, heck, more options for the gamers is always good but it does stick out like a politically correct sore thumb
Maybe it's the effect of a Greater Evil. When you're getting attacked by dragons and Darkspawn and desert chickens, you don't have time to worry about who is humping who. Or like how in fantasy worlds you always see human/elf racism or elf/dwarf racism but you almost never see one human care about another human's skin color. "We're too busy calling these dudes 'knife-ears' to care if Viv is black..."
The Iron Bull flipped out when we saw a dragon and demanded that we go kill it. So I'm just keeping the crew happy. We've been killing giants though so there's that.
Oh, Protip: When putting a companion in your party who you've ignored up until now maybe spend a few moments setting their 13 skill points BEFORE the tenth time you enter combat with them...
The crafting system has outsmarted me. I just got a new weapon pattern, and I wanted to get the masterwork bonus (+10% stats) on it, so I made a quicksave before trying to craft it. I figured I'd just reload that save and attempt it until I got the masterwork bonus, but even using the Dragon Claw (40% proc chance), a dozen or so tries later no dice. And I don't have enough Tier 3 metal for more than one attempt.
Also, informal poll: does anybody actually like Vivienne? So far she's constantly berated every single one of my other companions, and for some reason seems to hate her fellow mages. My only guess is that she sees any potential reform to the existing Circle structure as a threat to her power within that structure, but even throwing that aside she's still such a cnut. Way to make the only black character completely unlikable.
I liked Viv more than Solas but then dumped them both for Dorian. He easily has the most epic mustache out of the three so what else do I need?
Morrigan was a big crank to everyone in your group as well AND both her and Viv had default outfits designed for you to stare at their boobs. Biggest difference is that one is a black woman. I'm not calling you racist for disliking Viv but you're obviously racist.
I can't quite place my finger on who Solas reminds me of, but I like him. I decided to keep the default party and just respec Cass to 2H. Since I am RPing a sort of noble cliche warrior guy on my first play I got kind of attached to the default party.
I plan to use all of the crazy people on my next play through, and RP some sort of does not give a F rogue type. Also it's hilarious that Cass has a soft spot for trashy romance novels written by Varrik.
*Woot also I just got a flirt option with scout Ginger Harding lol.
Sometimes when my party members are hurt and I have them drink a regen potion I say "Drink up little homie".
Also I am happy so far with SnB warrior. Seems tough as nails between the armor shouts and Solas's barrier. My guy is the only one in the party who does not take much damage. It's probably helps that I give him all the best stuff. But seriously most of the time he is like: Why are you all hurt? /flex
Maybe I am a bad tank. Oo I use both of my taunts whenever they are on cooldown but my people still manage to take damage. Not really enough to be a problem. The game is pretty easy on normal. It's probably just designed as such so I feel like they might possibly die. Even though they don't really.
Also how about them lightning strikes in Crestwood? Neat.
You know, people, I'm trying to do a JOB here... Sera spoilers: Annoying Sera wanted me to send a column of troops through some land where a couple nobles were fighting and displacing the commoners. OK, fine. Then it turns out that she was getting a cash reward for this (wait, what?) and then that reward was a set-up. I let her curbstomp the guy who set her up but in the next cutscene tell her that we can't afford that sort of sh*t and she gets all pissed. "Greatly disapproves". Damn it, I'm trying to run a major political-military organization here, people. Stop bugging me with your stupid-sh*t small world attitudes. I would have kicked her out of the Inquisition except that she's my preferred rogue for combat.
Also, killed a dragon. Dragon mothers are the worst mothers in the world. Why do so many games have a "fight the dragonlings" phase during their dragon fights? "Oh, crap these guys are tough. I better let my toddlers fight them for a while."

If you do a side quest for dorian I am not 100% sure is available unless you are trying to romance him there's a conflict with his father.(Minor character spoilers) Which is where you find out that the biggest problem his family had with him was that he is strictly gay. My character acted surprised like who even cares these days. In dragon age 2 if you romance Anders as a guy you have a whole conversation about how he was dating the guy that was made tranquil. And how the circle in feredelin love passing time by having massive oregies.
In my experience there's always been hints to the LGTB community in the series it's just really obvious in this one
Edit: ON vivi, she basicly the Anders and as mentioned Morrigan of the group.(How much she would punch me if she heard me compare her to those two) SOmeone who has a very specific goal and gets in anyone face if you remotely threaten that goal. She seems a decent person and has her kind moments but she way to much into the big picture to care about anyone but the Herald.

Oh sure. No one gave Leliana or Zevran hassle in DA:O way back in the day and kicking it all off. Just sort of amusing when I think about it: "Here's a fantasy world with a bunch of direct parallels to real world governments, religions, customs, languages, etc. Oh, except in this medieval world no one cares who you hump." Almost seems less realistic than the dragons and Darkspawn.

There's something poetically sad about this statement and amazingly awesome if it was the teams' intention.
Sure, and a system of governance premised upon agnatic inheritance of land and title implies a society dominated by men, yet all of these places pretty much embrace gender equality with the exception of the odd evil duke here and there. In fact, these places are far more progressive than our own societies, as they let women fight in the front lines. Score one for Orlais.
You can't do actual feudalism with these things, obviously, you can just do the kind of theme park version ala WoW or DA. I agree it's less realistic, because it isn't internally consistent.
You could definitely do a sword board and magic setting where these things fit, but you'd have to stop aping medieval Europe.
