Just got an email telling me that Gamersgate refunded the payment, as of right now the game is still in my library and I'm installing it to make sure it stays put.

No such email here and it still shows in my Gamersgate library.

I can't activate the key on Steam from work but I showed it on GG and copied it down. I'd be a little surprised if they revoked keys. the only time I can think of where they did that was the free copies of Warlock 2 and those were by Paradox, Gamersgate's sister company.

Installing it won't really make it stay put unless the game is one if the truly DRM free games in Steam that can run without Steam running.

Technically if GG got the publisher to revoke the keys you'd still lose access to the game.

And I just got a refund notification from Paypal. At least GG didn't try and stick me with $10 in blue coins.

I'll have to see if they revoked the key. If they did, no loss on my part. If not, free game! Smiley: laugh

Ironically, Warlock 2 was like that. It's gone from my Steam library but I had it installed and it still runs off the game.exe file.

Id imagine they wouldn't issue refunds unless they were sure they'd get the keys revoked.

Either way it's bad for GG. They seem to make mistakes often, and troubling the Punlisher to take games away from customers can't make the Publisher happy dealing with them.

They once had a glitch on one of the Clancy games (Future Ghost: Warrior Princess 2 or whatever nonsense) where they refunded everyone but left the game sitting without a key in your library. then, like two months later, they all got keys Smiley: oyvey

Got home and activated the key fine. We'll see how long the same stays around. I imagine most companies aren't excited to take the brunt of it on Gamersgate's behalf when the legitimate question of "Why did you revoke the game I paid the asking for just because some vendor decided after the fact that they didn't like the asking price?" comes up.

Still have the game activated, still waiting for the refund to be processed.

Also Joph, heads up:

Quote:
"Recycle Steam Community items like Trading Cards, backgrounds, and emoticons from your Inventory into Gems and use it to bid on games up for auction. The first auction round ends on 15 Dec @ 3:00pm with a new round ending every 45 minutes until the last auction round ends on 18 Dec @ 6:00pm. At the end of each auction round, the top bidder for each title wins.
Pro tip: Need more items to turn into Gems? More than 1,200 games on Steam drop Trading Cards just for playing them. Find out which of your games has drops remaining on your Badges page. Also, don’t forget to craft the Trading Cards into badges, the resulting emoticons and backgrounds have a higher Gem value. If you have nothing in your Inventory to recycle, you can also trade for Gems or purchase them on the Community Market.
The Auction runs 15 Dec @ 3:00pm to 18 Dec @ 6:00pm when the Holiday Sale begins."

I'm curious how the bidding will work. Will the Gems be worth more to bidding than the Funbux are?

Edit:
I didn't read far enough... don't know if I'll even bother bidding. Doesn't look all that worth it.

Edit:
So my emoticons and profile backgrounds are 100 Gems. The one card I had not put on the Market yet was worth 13 gems. I'm sure if I REALLY tried I could get something MAYBE worth it out of this. But for now... I don't see it being worth the effort. I see a couple games from my wishlist for low gem values (around 100) but I'm sure that will change once more people start using it and start bidding.

The whole thing just seems like too much work.

I see it driving up the price of cards as surplus ones are bought up to convert into emoticons, backgrounds, etc that are worth 100 pts each. Cards themselves are worth almost nothing in gems.

Anyway, XCOM: Enemy Within is $6 from Newegg with coupon code EMCWHPA23

So... Um....

http://steamcommunity.com/id/gcolusso/inventory/#753_6_1276593735

1,070,689 sacks of gems (1000 each). And look at all those Booster packs that were created using them (can buy boosters with gems). Even if that was a user with tons of emotes and stuff, that's still 10,706,890 emotes and backgrounds turned in... I can't imagine that being true. Edit: Turns out not all emotes and backgrounds are worth 100 gems, some are only 10-80. So ya, even more than that.

I'm wondering if there is possibly some sort of exploit out there that has allowed gems to be gathered easily through some method... possibly not legitimate. And with the booster pack system it seems like there is going to be a flood of cards on the market which I imagine will mean a huge drop in values across the board.

Edit:
So unless Steam/Valve fixes something, the Gaben FunBux faucet may be shut down for quite some time...

Yeah, I wasn't paying much attention but it looks like this promotion totally eff'd up the market. Glad most of my cards are already sold and gone. I'm down to like 50 cards on the market and it's not even worth relisting them for 2¢ each.

From what I hear, there were all sorts of glitches and loopholes going on as well that allowed you to get tons of gems. Which, as you said, were turned into boosters and thus crashed the card market.

The simplest one appears to be:

Buy gem sack (1000 gems) for 3 cents (lowest price possible)
Craft booster packs (some very cheap, 400 gem packs exist)
Sell/craft rewards and buy more gem sacks.

It's like Steam didn't realize they had a market...

Edit:
I had 34 cards up for sale on the Market. And I listed a few at the start of this mini event, incorrectly assuming that the demand for cards would increase as they needed to craft badges to get the gems (before the exploits were exposed). So I listed a few a couple cents higher than the lowest price.

I really doubt I'll be able to sell them now. Was about 3 bucks or so worth of cards to eventually sell.

Edit2:
So they just changed the gems to Not Tradable, Not Marketable. But I think the damage was already done. I wonder if they are going Coal exploit on this and erasing punishing exploiters?

Curiously, I sold ten cards overnight. All cheap crap like Pixel Pirates but I was still surprised to see them sell.

I sold some expensive ones overnight as well.

Two for 12 cents and one for 20. (After fees). I was surprised.

All Batman PC games for $10 through BundleStars.

"I Have No Mouth And Must Scream" only $.60 on Steam. Point and click based on a classic SciFi/Horror short story.

my cards have been selling pretty well, didn't realize this was going on but figured there would be some sort of gimmick so I had been listing all my cards a couple cents above the going price all month. Up to just a couple cards below 18 funbux now.

So, I got this email from GMG for a pretty decent sale on Shadow of Mordor. 33% off, plus a voucher code for an additional 20% off. The email blatantly states that the voucher can be used on Shadow of Mordor. That adds up to the best price I've seen so far for the game, so I was about to buy it. But, when I tried to use the voucher, it doesn't work. Those guys really need to get their **** together, I'm reaching the point where I'm just not going to bother with them anymore.

I copy and pasted the voucher, so it's like I mistyped it or something. It just didn't work the first time I tried it. I tried it again and it suddenly worked. I have no idea why it wouldn't take it the first time.

When you copy pasted, it copied an extra space or line break along with it most likely.
