How do you price yours? I've been going a penny over the low. Still been selling a good number of them and I assume I'll sell more the closer we get into the sale as people try to bump their Steam Level.

Most of the cards I'm farming now are garbage anyway. Bundled or free games so they're worth maybe a dime if I'm lucky. Amusingly, Secret of the Magic Crystal cards are closer to a quarter.

Depends on the history and number available. But usually ends up being at the current low. If the current low is actually just a few above the average sale for the last 24 hours I end up putting it right around that average. If there are two pages of cards at the one price I'll end up putting the card a 1 penny lower. If the current low is a guy selling it 4 or 5 cents lower I will usually put it at the real low. Not the one off under cutter.

My current batch of cards were some cheapos. 4-6 cent averages. Do I didn't care too much about their value. I try not to undercut the valuable ones though.

... I just added my 100th game to my Steam Library. Just Cause 2 is $2.99 on Amazon. (Meh, its on sale for the same price ON Steam itself, but the DLC is on sale as well, so buy it on Steam I guess, I just wanted to post saying that I'm now a part of an exclusive club that anyone can be in as long as you have too many games on one service). GOG is giving Magrunner: Dark Pulse away for free for the next 24 hours. Just login or create a GOG account to get it.

Nice. I have between 50-75. I don't do a lot of small indie or bundle games though.

Any of you card meta gamers ever worry that some of those shady tactics might get you in trouble? The cards are not my thing and non of it bothers me personally but I can see Steam being unhappy with the 3rd party software stuff.

Does Steam ever ban people? I can see that getting super messy with digital property and the amount of original investment in your library. Kind of interesting to think about.

Not really. I don't use SAM to set any achievements, just to spoof my activity. Valve gets a cut of every card I sell so, by my reckoning, they make more profit the more cards I collect and move on the market. Win-Win. I don't get why they'd really care anyway since it's structurally no different than just idling the games. It's not as though you can get cards from games you don't own or anything.

In ascending order, Valve has VAC banned people (no longer able to play on VAC servers), blocked them from the community marketplace and, in extreme circumstances, banned people's accounts from accessing the Steam store. Never heard of any punitive action from using SAM though nor anyone losing access to purchased games.

If they ever did decide it bothered them greatly, I'd expect they'd announce it first or do a wrist-slap punishment like a one week marketplace ban. People moving cards are, sort of by definition, people most likely to purchase games (why else make the GabeN Funbux?). You wouldn't want to hit them too hard and make them say "***** this".

When Steam bans an account the largest penalty I've ever seen is a suspension for violating the SSA. This suspension makes you unable to trade or use the market. And removes your ability to purchase games or redeem retail keys. You can still access your existing library of games.

In my opinion using SAM to farm cards is no different than running the game idle. And it saves Steam bandwidth because users with huge libraries don't need to download 1000GB of data.

Edit:
If bundle sites start offering new bundles, I might end up breaking 1000 games on Steam by the end of the year. But so far the last few months have been repeat city.

I've reached a decent spot in my card libraries. A handful of games that are worth 12-16 cents each card. Of course they have a low number of cards... but it's still a bit better because Steam takes a smaller percentage of the money. Sell for 16 cents and get 14 vs sell for 6 cents and get 4...

I got two foils too. One only worth about 36 cents, the other worth about 1.50... the cheap one sold, but the more expensive one will probably take a while...

Good points from both of you. I had not properly considered the profit angle for Steam.

So I tried a few games last night and came back this morning to nothing...

Then I realized that the games I had run were F2P games and required purchases to unlock card drops. Whoops. Smiley: bah

Check your badges page for a list of games that you have drops available in.

Yes, that.

Also, if you really care, you can then click the game in your badge pages and click the "check market price" and see which cards are selling for the most. Really though, most sell for 10-15¢ so it's hardly worth the effort. Guess it saves you from farming five 5¢ McPixel cards though.

I hit a slew of 15-20 cent card games over the last night. 3-4 cards per game. Still in the E's right now. About 20-25% the way through my list. Up to 32.50 or so.

Given the card system for the sale I suspect that card sales will begin to increase.

Picked up Don't Starve to break the ice.

Had always held off on it, but was interested for 3.75.
