Review by Kotaku.

Most of what I've heard about TOR is that it's really just another MMO when it comes to game play and mechanics (and I believe it). But thinking about it, I'm not sure I care. I loved Dragon Age, and it played a LOT like a MMO, afterall.

Pretty sure I'm going to pick the game up. If I enjoy it in the context of a single-player game, I'll play through the character campaigns and be done with it (maybe coming back for expansions or something). If they manage to deliver a MMO experience I enjoy, even better.

Of course, there is that annoying monthly fee. But I'm fairly certain that I'm addicted enough to Star Wars that it will be irritating, but not decisive, in determining if I'll play.

And if we're lucky, they'll realize they have to ramp up the MMO aspects, if they are still lacking...

Good news, Pigtails.

Sounds good to me. I enjoy interactive dialogue ala ME1-2 Bioware style. Most MMO's seem to hold me for around a month now anyway. I usually max level a character, run the instances and maybe check out the first tier of raids.

Then I realize I don't really want to grind the same PvP instances, dungeons and raids ad nauseum hoping the points grind and RNG gods give me shineis for the next year. So I roll another toon, and get bored trying to do all the same zones and quests again.

Then I quit. Which is really kind of a good thing becuase like the author of this story I don't really want to dedicate my life to only one game anymore and miss all of the good stuff coming out.(Skyrim! Diablo3!)

But if this game really has interesting unique stories and leveling paths for each character that could be pretty cool.

From what I understand the single player/co-op aspect is already extremely polished and in-depth.

End game or large MMO-esque content, not so much. But my thoughts on that are that Bioware will add all that stuff at a later date... why add all that at release if no one will be able to access it?

Take your time, work with the feedback, make the content good.

I am incredibly optimistic about this game. Everything seems to be falling into place and reviews are generally very positive...

And, quite possibly, if the story campaigns are as good as the author suggests, then it might actually be worth playing other ones. Which gives BioWare much more time than other MMOs to get that content out there.

Rift, for instance, has been suffering from a lack of endgame content for some time. But if playing another character up from the start is something that's enjoyable in and of itself, instead of just a means to an end, then it might be really good for the company.

Because, when you think about it, few games have managed to make the leveling experience something that's truly valuable about a game.

You know there will still be those people who level a toon to max in 4 days without sleep by smashing through all story without reading anything. Then complain the end game sucks on the forums for the next month until the free month sub wears out.

Definitely true. But if there's actually something valuable about the leveling process (as opposed to typical MMOs), then there will be grounds to tell them to stfu. :P

Totally agree. And this is what makes me so optimistic. It seems to be designed towards Bioware's more "traditional" fans - the ME/DA crowd, who like the story and will read and absorb it.

Okay, SOLD.

This sounds awesome. I'm frankly not even thinking of it as an MMO anymore. It's just a Star Wars game I really frickin' want to play. If the multiplayer is awesome, it just means that I'll continue to play it after I try all the classes I'm interested in.

Now I just need to figure out the different pre-order versions, and decide if my hatred of the Origin system trumps my desire for free stuff...

Oh, and while that's the one I linked, there are a bunch more class-specific previews if you check the links at the bottom. The level of detail isn't equal in all of them (the Jedi Consular one, for instance, is pretty bare but the Jedi Knight is quite detailed).

Final note, the NDA is only lifted for Republic side, and only for levels 1-16 or something. So if you want information outside of that, it's not available yet.

Pretty much this, but I think the GF is buying it me for Xmas. If not then I'll definitely pick it up post-Yule.

Had heard mixed reviews about it a while ago but everything I'm hearing is reasonably positive, which is unusual for recent MMO's. And this really does seem like my kind of game :)

Yeah, it's kinda interesting. I had heard quite a lot of bad about it, but everything I've seen since the press NDA was lifted has been very positive.

I think it really comes down to how badly you need the game to shake up MMO combat. Fortunately, this isn't a need of mine.

Honestly story trumps all with me. But I would love to get some Witcher/Fable/Dragon Nest/Soul Calibur style fighting in an MMO sometime. Tera might be like that.

Check out the combat in this though:

Looks pretty epic. Another one of those NC soft type deals though.
