I'll say. Being over four hundred years old, and just kinda standing around and killing his friends that miraculously turn out to be immortals while other immortals go around killing his friends that are mortal.

I think almost every origin story has betrayal. I've only done half of them, but someone always gets betrayed. One does not become a Gray Warden by having a nice happy past

I don't think either Elven origin does. But they make up for it by being emotional in other ways.

[EDIT]

And don't you do the betraying in the low-caste Dwarven one?

I thought you get called out at the Proving and end up about to be executed by your employer because -his- plan failed.

And they make it pretty clear how Dwarven politics work. :P

No, I've been through the fall of Ostagar, and am about to enter Lothering. So I've witnessed my brothers betrayal of me, and then Loghains' betrayal of the Prince/King.

You'll see a lot of betrayal in the game, but it's not like every plot line will involve new instances of it. You'll obviously see far-reaching results of Loghain's betrayal though.

frak, imma hafta take another stab at this game, maybe.

played all the origin stories, ended up going back to my female dwarf noble. the grey warden initiation was great... then a couple sequences later i just got bogged down by the sheer amount of dialog.

now i wanna go back and pick all the smartass 'stop wasting my time' options and see how far i can get :)

That route is much, much more amusing in DA2. Also, just going by your post, it sounds like you'll enjoy DA2 more than DA:O as it's more action oriented than story/dialog. The two are barely related, so you can play one without ever touching the other, but I'm guessing both will play a big role in DA3.

I don't know about that. All the bad things happen regardless of whether he was there. His presence just allows the Warden to avoid a horrid fate, though I could definitely see the possibility of survival for a mage Warden who told on his friend.

This thread makes me want to pick up DA:O for my PC rather then my PS3, so I can replay it. And get achievements.

I'm thinking of waiting for DA:O collection to become a mega-bargain on Steam, it'll save me from having to buy DLC on my PS3

I really do have issues with how companies are handling DLC and other download prices. It's just absurd to me that they wouldn't drop the prices, especially after this much time. People shouldn't be punished for having bought the game early--you can get like all the DLC, the core game, and Awakening for $30 right now. But to buy all the DLC I don't have (excluding Awakening) it would be $30.

I mean, c'mon... At the very least make a download option of all the DLC and Awakening for that price, even if it requires you to have the game already.

I agree. I was surprised the prices were still so... pricey. I didn't really want awakening (although now I'm curious as to how it plays), but I wanted the DLC; and it ended up being a lot cheaper just to get the Ultimate edition.

I hate DLC and almost never buy it until much, much later in a GOTY edition or something, which is why I only had what came free with my DA:O copy. It's typically overpriced and doesn't add that much to the game. Legacy for DA2 is $10, but adds a measly 2-3 hours of gameplay. Oh, then there's the fact that DLC adds achievements even if you don't have it. You can't 100% a game without buying the DLC.

Interesting how you can have your cake and eat it too in this game when it comes to unlocking specialties.

I'm curious: what do you mean? That you can immediately use the specialties in other games besides the one you're in? Or that you can unlock specialties for classes other than your own and let your companions take them (exception: Blood Mage if you're not a mage)?

Probably that you can unlock a specialization that conflicts with your character's personality (think Reaver), save the game to a separate file, then re-load the old file and make the opposite decision, yet still retain the specialization.

Note to self: give Wyenne the Blood Mage specialization next game, commence with laughing Smiley: grin

Err, I meant that you could unlock the ability to select the specialization via that method.

But yeah, Wynne + Blood Mage would be epic lulz.

I'm pretty sure you can plat any game even if you don't have its DLC--you don't get 100%, but you'll still get the trophy signifying that you got all the trophies related to the core game.
