Sanctum was a hidden gem imo. My friend and I turned off voice chat in favor of typing and hearing the stephen hawking voice. Plus the mechanics are solid and its a good time.

Retribution is a standalone revamp of DoW2 and is a must have for pretty much anyone. RTS fan or not.

Get em!

I liked Sanctum for the first couple of levels, but it rapidly turned much too difficult to complete solo. It might've gone better if I had friends to help me out, I don't know.

Final haul:

Amnesia
Audiosurf
Batman: AA
Bioshock
Bioshock 2
Braid
Company of Heroes + Opposing Fronts
Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate
Fallout 3
Far Cry 2
Just Cause 2
L4D2
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Portal 2
Terraria
Torchlight

Mind you, I started with almost no games aside from one or two installed MMORPGs, some "ancient" stuff like Fallout 1/2 & Medieval: Total War and the Orange Box. So I should be set for a good while. Think it averaged to a little under $7 a game.

I made sure to fill my wishlist. I'm hoping those 5 entries can win me some free games!

He apparently binges on games once every 8 years or so, then retreats from the industry.

I think the last time I bought a game, it was probably 2006 or so.

That's quite a nice haul Joph. It'd be cool of you to let me know how you like the ME series. I've been playing some of FO3 that I bought and this is a beautiful game. I probably should give it a reloook on the 360 now that I have an HDTV.

I'm tromping through Portal 2 now but may take up Mass Effect next since I also did Bioshock and played around with some L4D2 and am ready for something besides zombies/pseudo-zombies.

Someone should probably warn you that husks in ME are kinda like fast moving zombies.

I always thought it odd that I always have trouble the first time I come across a husk in ME, but they're push overs every time after that.

Also, (and this is painfully obvious on retrospect), don't go in guns blazing. Cover is there for a reason. You need to use it, especially in the early game.

Bleh, it appears this laptop can't even handle Company of Heroes. Guess I'm going to have to wait until I can set up my desktop.

How about setting? Stay futuristic? Between Bioshock and Portal 2 and with memories of Fallout 1/2 still fairly fresh in my head, I'm getting a little retro-kitsch'd out as well. I'm going to need a breather before considering FO 3. Maybe after ME, I'll try DA:O.

It might be a better change of pace to play something a bit more mindless like Torchlight before starting on ME and ME2. You're in a for a very long haul if you start on those two.

I break up my long-haul style gaming with mindless fun in TF2, L4D2, Audiosurf, etc when the mood grabs me. I just don't need to consider what those games entail since they're just ******** around. I installed Just Cause 2 last night -- haven't played it yet but folks say it's good sandbox fun.

It's like asking which book to read with the understanding that you'll still watch TV sitcoms between chapters.

I hear that you can jump out of a helicopter, freefall, grappling hook your way into a passing plane, steer it into a nearby mountain, bail out just before impact, blow up a building with a rocket launcher as you fall past it, then pull your parachute 1 second from impact to save yourself.

Something to that effect. Sounds rather dull.

yes and you can also grapple guys to airplanes, and passing vehicles, and my personal favorite: grapple them to the exploding canisters that take off like a rocket when you shoot them.

Hell i think its fun just 'grapple-chuting' your way through a jungle.

If I can't do that perfectly the first time I play, I'm going to ragequit and go on the forums saying how much the game sucks.
