Pold said he had the same problem as me, so maybe Wiis just discriminate.

Interesting sidenote, Kotaku is reporting some rumors that the Vita will have functionality that will let it serve the same purpose as the Wii U controller in games, if they want to utilize it. That's not good news for Nintendo. Granted, it's not a massive threat, since the Vita is an optional peripheral where the PS3 is concerned. Still not great to have your grand new design premise be shared by another console being presented...

I've had very few issues with my Wii motion also. Usually it's because someone turns into a spazz freak when trying to bowl or golf and it causes the character to do all kinds of funky moves. Those have all been on Wii Sports...but I guess I forget that Wii Sports is srs bzns. As for the other games. Zelda worked flawlessly...hmm do I have any others that really utilize the motion sensor, SSBB, Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers Charge. Mario Party 8? that uses the motion senor, that's also a fun game. I love the Mario Parties. Mario Kart works fine.

Interesting. I can't seem to find that article, but if that's true it will make things interesting indeed.

I think one thing that can cause issues with the controller is if the controller is moving at the time it tries to synch with the console. My son did that today. He was kind of moving the controller around right about the time you're supposed to hit the button to get it synch'd and after that, it was all screwy. I reset the console and this time I held the controller still and it worked perfectly after that.

Every Wii owner I know IRL said more or less that they liked their Wii, but they had problems with the controller being temperamental sometimes, especially when they were playing certain games, like the golf game in Wii Sports.

I never really played the golf game, so maybe I just managed to avoid those temperamental games.

Same, in college we had a white board filled with scores for bowling. It was great fun.

Nope. They're saying no support for DVDs or Blu-Ray for U.

Bleh...I don't understand why they refuse to implement that.

Probably costs. Last generation Nintendo Nintendo was able to sell their console for considerable less than the other two big names, and they still managed to profit directly from the sale of the consoles. With the massive success of the Wii, it seems like they would try to imitate that strategy again.

What are the discs going to look like then? 14 discs to play a simple 1080p game from start to finish?

[EDIT]

Nvm. Apparently the Wii U discs are 25gbs.

I'm getting tired of everything being released that might hook into a monitor doubling as DVD players.

It's not even a selling feature anymore. It made sense with the PS2 and PS3, because as both were being released DVD and blu-ray players were relatively new, and so therefore it was fairly likely that a person purchasing one would not otherwise have a player (at least for that television).

Now though, it's just a redundancy.

How many DVD players do you really need? By my count in my gaming room alone, the TV has a DVD player, the PS3 has a DVD/Blu-Ray player, the 360 has a DVD player, and the PS2 has a DVD player. That's not including the actual DVD player we got as a wedding gift.

I'm still behind on the times and don't have a blue-ray player/HD tv so it would be nice if the gaming system I was looking in to supported that then it would save me having to buy a separate DVD player.

Well personally, I'm happy when a system supports the current format standard for movies. My PS3 is the only DVD/Blu-Ray player that I have, and I was happy to pawn off any superfluous DVD players (I think I got a couple as gifts) to consolidate. I'd hope that my future PS4 plays them as well, or whatever the next format happens to be.

Seems that it's a good option for people like me, who only have one console, and don't have a built in DVD-player (which aren't typically standard, no?).

No, I don't believe there are many DVD combos on HD tv's. While the price of Blue Ray is coming down they are still anywhere from what, $50+ for the player. Not to mention that outrageously expensive HDMI cable. It would just be a nice little savings to not have to buy a separate player.

The question should be: How many consoles do you really need?

Just emulate the games on your PC like the rest of us. Smiley: rolleyes

Edit: I'm tired of console exclusive releases. Fine, I get that PC games are more easily cracked and botted, but come on, at least port the game as a single player only version. I don't want to go buy a Wii U plastic brick just so I can play this.

All of 'em!

I'm just sayin', as far as "old" data mediums are concerned, a new system with DVD playback is just an extra cost when now even toasters play DVDs.
