Impact Gaming seeks: Star Wars: The Old Republic GMFollow

#1 Mar 15 2011 at 12:33 PM Rating: Good
I didn't really know where to post this since there isn't a SW:TOR forum just yet, so if this is inappropriately placed, a mod can just move it I figure.

Are you looking for a chance to continue your greatness as a leader in a MMORPG? The Impact Gaming Community (IGC) is now considering players for the position of Guild Leader for its upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic guild.

IGC is a group of about ninety adults that love MMOs. We are PvE oriented, and know our stuff. Our players are top-notch and we only accept the best of the best into the guilds within our community. Currently we have a FFXIV guild, Neutral Impact, and a Rift guild, Violent Impact. We have tentatively reserved the name "Force Impact" for this potentially new chapter (the name is still a work in progress and may be changed by the GM).

However we are in need of a full-time guild master. Normally it would not be our policy to recruit leaders outside of our gaming community, but the community had fantastic success doing as such with Rift. Maveric, the Rift GM, built his guild from the ground up with just a handful of members and it is now 40 members strong and at the top of Keenblade server!

As the Community Manager, applications must be sent directly to me, and I would prefer them in resume form, however I am flexible in this regard. That said, our ideal candidate possesses at least the following qualities:

Core Requirements
MMORPG years played: 4-5+ years, at least two titles
Raiding Experience: 3 years minimum (please include specific all experience and progression)
Leadership Experience: 2 years minimum
Team Player: MUST, not negotiable
Age 25+ preferred, mature individual
Good writing skills are REQUIRED

Admin Requirements
Experience with loot distribution/points systems/theory behind these concepts
DKP experience a BIG plus (ZeroSum, EP/GP specifically--as guild leader you will have some flexibility to decide system however)
phpBB admin experience is a plus
Teamspeak3 admin experience is a plus

Responsibilities/Duties
Maintenance of forum sections for SW:TOR (moderating, moving threads, etc.)
Overseeing Recruitment (assisting recruitment team sort applications)
Appointing SW:TOR leaders as needed
Maintaining news pages for SW:TOR on forums
Frontpage posting (guild progress updates, raid successes, etc.)
DKP maintenance/point entry (if needed)
Miscellaneous: other tasks required

Please note our guild is interested in PvE content primarily, however we understand that to achieve maximum immersion in the Star Wars universe, PvP may be required and we are open to that! We have not settled on a faction just yet, and it would be the GM's task to work on that before opening recruitment.

If you are interested in this position, please contact me at your earliest convenient. The guild master is a big job, but is supported by at least one other leader always, but two preferably. As Community Manager I will make sure you have the maximum amount of resources needed to achieve the goal of building a new chapter within our gaming community!!!

For further details, please email us: igccm@impact-gaming.us and we will reply to your inquiry as soon as possible. Please include your name, location (timezone), best way to contact you, and all the above information.Serious applicants ONLY please.

Thank you for your time in this matter everyone, and special thanks to the ZAM team for allowing us a space to post this!

Grey Jorildyn
IGC Manager

P.S. We will also consider absorbing a guild that is interested in having all their web needs met should their philosophy match IGC's.

What does the job pay?
#3 Mar 15 2011 at 5:26 PM Rating: Decent
lol it doesn't pay and it's not a job! We are looking for someone to build up a star wars chapter within our community. We've got a handful of players looking to get into it, full website at your disposal, and community players and leaders as resources.

It wouldn't be any different than someone starting up a guild on their own, just that they can build it up in a place where we have an established community. As the OP states, we did this for Rift and it worked out great. It is kinda weird looking to bring someone into the community to fly our banner and build something great within our circle, but hey, it worked once. Figured I'd try it again :)

I find this very weird...

I mean, wouldn't you want your GM to be someone you all know and trust?

Yeah. So we take applications and get to know them over a few conversations before deciding who will lead. It definitely is confusing, but like I said, it has worked in the past!

I wouldn't be comfortable with it (as a member or leader), but to each his own. I wish you success in any case.

Interesting. I think I'd actually be qualified based on all criteria, but running one major guild is enough for me for a lifetime. (That, and I sort of outgrew my Star Wars obsession when it went mainstream again, and probably won't rekindle my love of the franchise until Lucas caves and makes the Zahn trilogy into movies. Smiley: bah)

Good luck finding someone who is both qualified and willing to take up the job!

Yes, actually it is a job. It takes all the fun parts of an MMO and turns them into work. If you want someone to do all the work for you so the rest of you can have fun, you need to be willing to give them something in return.

As the community manager I am involved in all aspects of the guild from recruitment to leadership. I also offer them Teamspeak, a website, a banner, and an established player population to draw from, as well as 10 community leaders they can ask advice from.

I believe we offer plenty. I'm not asking someone to do all the work on their own, not by a long shot. I am there every step of the way to assist and manage what needs to be done as well. I unfortunately cannot play every single MMO our community hosts to max level and be a full-time raiders in all the guilds, but I am active in all of them.

Note for the OP: You didn't specify what side you'll be playing--Republic or Sith.

Actually we're not sure yet. I think we need to get some more people before we can make the kind of decision. We wouldn't want 10 people making a decision for a potential 30-40.

It's probably important to decide that before you start looking for a leader. I suppose there are some people that don't care, but Star Wars is a pretty loaded genre. I mean, there's no way I'm playing Sith (at least as far as mains go) for instance.

And I assume that your choice of faction is going to be deeply related to PvE content, so it's more than just aesthetics (not to mention class options).

I hear ya. It's one of those things that could go either way. Like for instance, when we built our Rift guild, we had Defiant beta first. We played that, like it. Then we tried Guardian. We took a vote after each phase and it was pretty clear Defiant was gonna win out early on, but then it shifted to Guardians, and in the end we decided on Defiants. It was a team decision for sure and that worked well for us because there were so many betas for Rift. Could say it's a unique situation.

Pfft, you're gonna get killed a billion times by my Imperial Agent, then.

Actually, I don't even know what PvP is like in SWTOR.

I just know that I couldn't play on the Republic side. Sith are way cooler.

It doesn't matter which side is cooler. What matters is which side gets to play as those blue slave girls.

I only have a small amount of knowledge from the EU, so I'm gonna have to say "the form".
