Healer Mesmers?Follow

I was just thinking about this. Lets assume mesmers come back. Some people like myself think that they might be one of the two other adventuring professions. Maybe pick up a sword, be more rounded and all that. Or they could stay as pure casters if they come back.

So I was just wondering, what if they evolve into more of a jack of all trades class with adding party healing/support. Sort of like bards in D&D. I could kinda see them as illusion/domination magic, swords, guns, and maybe songs/chants from the paragon (who shouldn't be returning).

Another thing to think about: casters have a support char (water el), tanks do as well (guardian), and since the assassin is going to be the other adventuring class, a mesmer-bard would make sense in terms of balance.

I actually thought they would have some sort of illusion weapons that they could summon. It would be like their Illusionary weaponry expanded from gw:classic. Now the Guardians have that exact feature.

I still have high hopes for the mesmer. I don't think they will have any significant heal mechanic to speak of. They will have to be gutted. The original mesmer was good with interrupts and energy management, which they cannot do in gw2. Perhaps they will have other special, frustrating mechanics. I expect to find things similar to the necromancers fear. Things like empathy and backfire still work. Perhaps an ability that doesn't let you dodge. Disabling an elite for a set amount of time looks like it will be even more effective than before, as does anything that slows movement.

After thinking about it, it looks like they don't really need to stray far from the original mesmer. I'm looking forward to their release the most, though I think one of the articles said arena net was hinting at an assassin/scouting class. That will most likely be next,

Well, I'm hoping for a mesmer return. As far as their healing abilities and support, I see them with more damage/energy mitigation support and absorption-style healing abilities. I feel that this won't escape too much from the original mesmer style. If they can use enchantments or something to buff an ally the same way they use hexes and domination magic to de-buff an enemy then they will be a welcome support group. I agree that chants from the paragon will probably be seen if the class makes a return.

If they do make a comeback essentially they will be the same but with more diversity. I can't really say whether or not adventurer vs scholar, adventurer would definitely increase diversity. Use of swords, maces, etc. would make them have more variety to the kinds of sills they'd get.

I always found it nice to have a few different styles of magic user in any game. Since death magic is already in the game along with element based the only things left are domination (de-buffs, the mesmer from GW1), Nature (Something we see in many MMO's, Druid :P), and Summoner (Ritualist from GW1, or Warlock from WoW). A class riddled with Dots and De-buffs is always a fun class so hopefully ArenaNet brings em back.

Very interesting point.

All of the professions released so far have some significant ability to support their party, in a way which suits their role. How exactly ArenaNet plans to work that into the mesmer class (if it does return) could be incredibly interesting.

Creating illusionary doubles of all of your party members?

Hmmm... Illusionary double. Thinking about it.... Imagining it..... SICK!!! I could have a lot of fun (and make a ton of sex jokes) with that... So, a mesmer and an elementalist go adventuring and fall asleep around a campfire... Gigiddy. lol.

Ok, I'm done being immature. I think it would be hard to implement that simply because there is no direct friendly targeting in GW2. So, support would have to be done in some other way.

You could be able to make several doubles of yourself or a double of every ally in range if anet goes that route.

Self doubling seems better it would just be annoying if your in a crowded area in WvW or some other form of PvP and you have a mesmer or mesmers cast an AOE doubling spell cause then not only would it become lag city for people with a crappy connection or a crappy video card it would be a major problem to single target the proper enemy. So the player fighting the mesmer would have to aoe offensive spells/attacks while getting their *** handed to them by a million doubles and screaming "Which One is the real one?!"

Self doubling is a lot more balanced right off the bat and the AI would be a ton easier. Just base it off of a Weapons/skills available paradigm. and health and damage based off of a percentage or other formula based on the users stats/attributes

The doubles don't necessarily need to cast anything, just be controllable by their real likeness. Even as a single player, being able to create 2 illusions and send them off in different directions to yourself should create enough of a diversion/confusion to get on with whatever you were getting on with.

I'm quite excited to see what's in store for mesmers. I certainly see a lot of control there through the application of various conditions, but I'm rather sceptical about straight up support.

As much as A-net is emphasizing that every class is capable of support, I certainly wonder what type of support mesmers will have to offer. They had inspiration magic in GW1, and skills where they copy other characters' magic like inspired hex or arcane mimicry, so I'm expecting those skills to make a return. In a recent interview it was revealed that enemies and monsters have their own special skill sets which players don't have complete access to, so I wonder if mesmers will be able to copy some of those skills.

The prospect that I find most interesting is illusion magic actually creating visual illusions. I could see this having support potential--mirror images, mass invisibility--although the prospect of, say, summoning an image of Kralkattorrik to scare the heck out of everyone is even more cool sounding.

Mesmers are masters of illusion, so that's probably how it'll work. Anyone play L4D, remember the pills? That seems akin to what they will probably do, give health that isn't health or cause an illusion on the player that makes them either weaker/dead or stronger wherein the opponent ignores them and goes to another player (out of false realization that the opponent is dead or too powerful to attack). They are more masters of the mind than masters of physical elements... it just doesn't seem fitting for them to heal x to y on z.

If it's illusion magic, does it actually happen?

How about Mesmers make multiples of only themselves who do simple actions like run, jump, etc. Just so they can distract the target for a while. Maybe the clones can be damage transfers. Kill the clone first, or just have my damage transfer to it. Im sure most of what they can do is simple Degeneration, maybe some spike, conditions, energy management. Almost the same thing.
