Woah. For those that haven't hit the official site in a few days, check out the Kodan.

New race? New PLAYABLE race?

No, they're not playable.

Not yet at least.

Why do I get the feeling that NCsoft forced the bear race into the game?

I don't see them every going playable, honestly. Their culture is a bit too isolationist, I think. Also, they're so Norn-like, it would be odd to have two arctic-dwelling giant/bear races.

I'm still hoping one of the truly alien races becomes playable, like a friendly centaur tribe, the Forgotten, some of the liberated Dredge slaves, etc. Though I'm sure I'd be the only one waiting in line to play as a Harpy. :)

Tengu are popular though, right? As are Quaggan. ^^

NCsoft wasn't involved in the creation of the Kodan. They don't really get involved in the development process. :-)

Thanks for taking the time to respond here, Regina. Also welcome to these forums. :)

I'm sure the folks at ANet just find it absurd when we in the community get our paranoid delusions on, speculating about how NCsoft has implanted mind-control parasites in the ANet devs. But given a vacuum of information, and the general trend in the videogame industry of big publishers coming in and damaging or destroying otherwise strong developers, I think it's easy for us to get carried away.

So it's nice to hear once in a while that, for example, NCsoft really does stay hands-off. I'm sure some will find it hard to believe, in fact... *_~

Who you calling paranoid?

Darn on the non-playable part. Whoever comes up with background lore deserves a nice latte because that was pretty awesome.
