City of Heroes:going rouge launch helpFollow

#1 Dec 30 2010 at 5:19 AM Rating: Decent
I just bought it on steam and when I click play the screen goes black and I can hear music but the screen stays black but i can use the mouse curser. When I hit cntrl esc the desk top is all messed up and a different color and clicking in the game from the tool bar at the bottom brings the game back up but the title screen crocked, wierd colors and nothing to click on. Also this popped up when I closed the game.

You can't run this program directly, please run CohUpdater instead.
Impossible de lancer ce programme directement. Lancez CohUpdater en premier.
Dieses Programm kann nicht direkt gestartet werden, bitte stattdessen CohUpdater starten.

After a few attempts I started the game in safe mode and while the color stayed all distorted ad visual on the screen was not as badly out of proportion. It was still bad but I was able to half of the boxes needed to make an account. Also I always hit verify all files before launching and that doesnt change anything. If anyone knows please help, I will be very greatful.

Assuming you have an account then (I assume you do with the free 30 days), try posting your problems here: CoH Tech Issues & Bugs. Knowledgeable people there who can help you. Few people on this board play the game so you're unlikely to get much assistance. Good luck.

Might I suggest you post some details about your computer when you post for help on the official forums. Like your computer's specs. The more info you give them the better. They can always ignore info that you give them that doesn't end up helping, but they can't read your mind if you don't give them enough.

I'm wondering if this is a Steam thing since you usually make an account via the NCSoft.com website, not in game. Likewise, I've never gotten a multi-language error from City of Heroes.

I don't have account yet since I was thinking you made that in the game instead of the website, should i make my account on the ncsoft webite first? I just don't want to mess my account up. As for computer specs my laptop is a sony viao f series with windows 7, core i7 intel processor, 6BG DDR3 memory, 500GB Serial ATA hard drive (7200 rpm),
NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M graphics although I should add my lap top plays high powered games such as final fantasy xiv fine so a game like this i think should have no problem. Could it possibily be just from steam? I have noticed that sometimes I have more issues from steam based games then disc games. Such as steam games sometimes require me to hit cntrl esc then re click the game from the task bar to make it fully work.

I don't use Steam so I don't know how they form accounts or how you start an account for another game when you purchased it through Steam. Do they give an account key or anything? If so, you can try using that to form an account via NCSoft's website. Once you've made a master account, you enter your account key to start your subscription to CoH and get forum access.

I realize this probably isn't especially helpful but the Steam thing sort of sets me back in knowing what's going on.

It is virtually impossible to buy a computer in this day and age that can't run City of Heroes at its default settings (and you should do much better than that). If you're having issues, they're almost certainly software/driver conflicts and not a physical limitation of your system.
