Looking in too the far future (when that release date is known)or dreaming that is already tomorrow!

I have a question or just curious,
I recently saw a poll on main page what races will be played mostly and it made me wonder..

What will be your first race + profession?
I hate being one of the thousands of others and everyone knows the WoW-syndrome, when it was released the first days you only saw Rogue and hunter Night Elves..
So what do you want to become?

I'm going for Elementalist (I know 4 yet to be announced)
but none predefined race yet

Leaning heavily towards a noble human warrior, at this moment in time:

> Warrior because I've been dabbling in a lot of other MMOs to fill time (my HoM is complete), and when I play solo in them to 2 qualities I enjoy most are melee & toughness...
>> Melee because lots of monsters tend to rush you, and I don't much enjoy snaring (never liked snares for some reason) and/or retreating in combat.
>> Heavy armor because of aforementioned melee fighting, where I don't usually enjoy classes who have to use stealth mechanics or use an unchanging 'uber melee DPS combo!" over & over.
... And while I greatly look forward to playing GW2 socially, I will 100% definitely want to explore every distant nook & cranny too. ^_^

> Humans because they have the best looking guys so far, and I'm shallow like that.
I do like their lore too of course, but looks are their ace in the hole.

> Noble because at the convention their personal story featured a flirty scoundrel - see earlier comment re: shallow. ^_^

I could definitely be swayed by the 2nd soldier profession though, or an adventurer/scholar with static minions ala the GW1 ritualist; I adore necromancers, but experience in pretty much all games (including GW1) shows that it's not wise to rely on pets that trail after you to tank for you when playing solo.

Not ruling out the sylvari or norn, but realistically they are unlikely to challenge humans unless the sylvari have males who look rather more like those in the art book or the norn have males with wildly slimmer frames available in character creation.

Re: WoW-syndrome
I can't say it will bother me at all if launch day brings an avalanche of human soldiers (which I suspect is quite likely), as I start my main characters picturing them 5 years from now!

Assuming mesmers actually make it in... well, that's a tough question. :)

I think my first character will probably be Charr, just due to sheer awesomeness, but I'm not certain if I'll want to roll a Charr mesmer. My second favorite race will likely be Sylvari, pending how their redesign goes (if they stray too much from being plant-like and turn into generic elves, I'll lose interest). Maybe a Sylvari mesmer?

As cliche as it is, I have to admit Charr warrior is really tempting. They just look so damn good. Though I also like the idea of a tiny Asura warrior. :)

This will also all depend on whether it looks like certain races will be especially desirable for given professions in PvP. For example, if all PvP elementalists are sylvari (to stack healing racials), I'd certainly take it into consideration. I'm not one to blindly follow the flavor of the month, but I'm also not one to ignore what has been proven to work so I can feel like a unique snowflake.

If the game magically landed in my lap tomorrow, I'd play:

Sylvari Ranger!

Because nothing says "I wanna play allllll night" more than a quiver of arrows, a pet bear and a certain blithe disregard for the alarm clock and job performance.

Quick on the heels of that character creation will be a Norn warrior. Fur and teeth, hook me up! I'll totally make some ranger a great pet. Rawr.

If its anything like GW1, then by the end of the first nights play I expect I'll have tried out at least three race+proffession combinations!

I'll probably go with Elementalist first, either Human or Sylvari unless they end up looking naff. I like blowing things up in games, and spent more time on my Ele on GW1 than any other character, so I naturally want to see how different things are on GW2.

Since I don't have any GW1 experiance so all comments give me a better insight,

I haven't read anyone favoring Asura?
So if they got any good racials I think Asurian Elementalist will be the first attempt!

I just like supporting and spells!
Necromancer is too evil and I doubt we can expect any other scholar types..

small characters are small.

regardless of hit box advantages in PvP, I can't get over playing a character that I have a hard time picking out of the landscape. i want to SEE that armor, thank you very much :)

With the game info we have right now it would be an Asuran Necromancer. Those skill videos were actually the first thing I really liked about GW2. Small, nasty looking critter. I like. But since there is four more professions to come, only time will tell.

While it may be popular because of the first novel, out of the classes already announced I'd go with a sylvari necromancer. Necromancer and mesmer are my favorite GW classes at the moment, so that sounds like a good starting point.

Of course, depending on the number of character slots we have, I may end up with one of everything eventually. :)

I actually am pretty excited to play as an Asura, despite how little we've seen of them so far. There's just something about them that appeals to me. Is it because I'm secretly an arrogant, yet ingenious, person? Maybe.....

Or perhaps it's because they remind me of Yoda in episode II....

Yeah.....it's probably that last point. Probably.
