Pirates of the Burning Sea has gone free to play. It is a fun game doing ship to ship combat set in the 1700s. There can be 6vs6 PVP and 24vs24 RVR. There is also crafting.

Just download the game from their site or from SONY Station and start playing today.

But really, I started playing this game a few days ago and im addicted to it for the time being. If you havent played it the ship combat is great and plays alot like Sid Meier's Pirates, and if you havent played that, well, let's just say its more involved than you might imagine.

The melee combat is not fluid and plays like a game from maybe 15 years ago, but eh, it's still PIRATES! Seems like theres a good amount of PvP going on and there are elements to the game that remind me of EVE.

It's free, give it a shot at least.

You lost me there.

My husband used to pay EVE. He would sit at his computer and read a book while his ship would mine an asteroid. I asked him, "So, are we paying $14.99 a month for you to read a book?" He thought about it, and said, "Yeah, I guess we are."

Well you know there are more elements to EVE than just that that right?

What reminds me of EVE are the different levels of ships to buy, ship building, and if you are sunk you will lose your 'sinkable cargo' as well as take a durability hit that contributes toward to the eventual complete loss of your ship. The ship combat also requires some strategy since some ships go faster going 90° from the wind, while others do better going 180° from the wind and so on, plus you can change your ammunition type on the fly (like in eve) to better suit your needs.

i guess what 'reminds me of EVE" is that in both games you pilot a ship... lol oh well, there you have it.

EVE Online is the greatest game ever if you don't actually want to play a game...

As for this PotBS... I might just try it for the halibut.

I tried it out a weeks back, even wrote an article on it: http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=24388

It's pretty fun, but a very high learning curve. I enjoyed the naval combat but I sucked at it. It also sucks that if you want to be an economic presence you basically NEED to pay for at least one month (otherwise you can only make 2 resource-gathering locations instead of 10).
