Surprising that there's nothing on here yet about this... does anyone have it? Or has played it for more than a 2 minute demo?

I played it for 2 mins at a theme park in July and instantly fell in love with it. Sadly, I don't have it yet (the GF semi-promised to buy it me for Xmas. If she doesn't then she's going to have another black eye to explain to her parents.)

Any idea what the games are like? She loves the way Kinectimals looks, I like the look of Kinect Sports. And I really, really, REALLY hope they give ME3 Kinect-ability...

I think it looks like another mad grab at my pocketbook that will make me happy for a day, two at most, then I won't bother with it.

Probably. But I'm not paying for it, she is. So I'm not quite as bothered as I would be. As long as it's fun then I don't mind.

On a side note, karma doesn't bother me (way too many posts to be affected by a rate down or ten), but why was this instantly defaulted? Is Kinect somehow a taboo subject on here?

I'll say the same thing that I said about Move. The current titles are pretty darned disappointing, however there is a possibility that kinect used in conjunction with the controller might make for some cool games. Also playing an RTS with kinect might be cool, where your hand is the 'mouse'.

I'm going to take a wild guess(not really) and say it was your domestic violence reference. Jokes in poor taste are in poor taste.

A silly gimmick meant to pull in the casual crowd. If it weren't significantly more expensive to buy a 360 and a Kinect than it is to just buy a Wii it might not flop as badly as it's going to. Sure they've sold a few units, but that's only because it's the big new thing. A year from now no one will give a damn about the silly thing. Same thing goes for the Move. Personally I have zero interest on motion controls, I won't be buying any of them.

Sums up my opinion on the subject pretty well. Oh there is some foul language so, you know, NSFW and all that.

Kinect/Move is just an effort to put off the release date of their next generation console. I don't own an Xbox, but I wouldn't pay for either after what happened to create it.

Sony/Microsoft executives laughed at Nintendo for introducing motion sensors and touting it as a major feature. Fast forward 4 years and they're tucking their tails between their legs and admitting that "Yes, we like money. Please buy our system instead".

And yeah, the release titles are extremely hit and miss.

My kinect gets used more then my normal xbox games

yes thats right, i got it, along with well over a million other people.

the games on it may look casual, and for starter games, they are....but which syste, ever had "Awsome" non casual starter games....NONE.

Kinectimals, my daughter player this, she loves it, its cute.
Dance Central, probly about as far from a casual game as youll find on the system right now. The game is very sensitive with the motion sensor and is a killer workout. This is the game im playing alot of.
Kinect Sports, truely a casual game that anyone can play, lots of minigames.
Kinect Adventures, Just something fun to do all around, great party game.

Ive had friends over to try it, and they all love it too, some are even getting it now over xmas cuz of me.

for those who tried store demos, the one thing i really have to say about it is those stores dont give it enough floor space to use it properly....and it makes it feel clunky because of it. you need at least 6-10 feet of floor space to make it work at optimal levels.

It just looks like another lame attempt at a Wii clone. Like I said a long time ago, unless they start coming out with The Matrix style virtual reality we've more or less seen the peak of video game technology and they're completely out of ideas.

Well, unlike the PSM, the Kinect is less of a Wii clone and more of a Wii competitor. Not having to use a controller is certainly a novel concept, and if implemented perfectly I could see it draw in many gamers who were unenthusiastic by the Wii's gimmicks. I'm just not sure if it has been implemented perfectly or not, and thus do not care to spend money on it.

Fair point.

I totally forgot I wrote that. Should have explained the full story (including part of Kinect testing at Alton Towers being shown how it watches your joints and avatars punch each other if you make the motion), but I didn't.

And me saying I'm not bothered about her paying - that was another joke. English humour, etc.

Rate downs are sort of justified, then. I apologise. Moving on. Anyway.

The GF will love Kinectimals, I know that already. Kinect Sports, that'll probably be more for me. We'll probably both get a kick out of the dance workout.

Really looking forward to playing it. Glad to hear others are enjoying it. I don't see it as a Wii clone. The lack of a controller is what drew me to it, I can see so much potential... if they get it right.
#15 Nov 30 2010 at 3:54 PM Rating: Excellent
That makes more sense. I can see with any of these systems accidentally punching someone else playing with you heh. I fear for my TV when my drunken friends come over and want to play. ( I did not rate you down btw )

I thought that the Wii was just a novelty when it first came out as well. However I don't see motion gaming going away. I see it just getting better and more virtual. Besides anything that entertains me while I get a work out is a good thing. Jogging is just so dull to me.

4.1 m for the Move (over a longer period of time)

Also lmao at that link Shao. I am already paranoid about the camera on my Move. I turns it away when not in play. Becuase I know it's only a matter of time until the hackers start targeting them like they do webcams. Smiley: tinfoilhat

4.1mil for a much cheaper product vs 2.5mil for the expensive one

sounds like its doing good to me by far :) hell id go as far to say its made more profit already based on those numbers

and im sure both will make some mad sales over the holidays to up that even more

I could not find a bundle for the Move that was not bundled with a PS3. They were sold out at Best Buy on the SAT after Black Friday. So I payed a bit more to buy the components separate. I could have hunted around or ordered online but I was out shopping and I wanted to return home with my prize. :D

I'd say they are both doing well. Both area's for Kinect and Move were swamped with people. I normally hate shopping when its like that but I really wanted a new toy.

Actually I think the Kinect is the cheaper one, only costs $56 in parts to make.

Also, your paranoia is justified.

And just for fun.

Initial sales mean nothing. Anything that's been hyped as much and as long as these things will sell quickly ar first. A year from now most of them will be gathering dust while people go back to playing real games.

I saw a video of a guy totally take out his daughter while doing the dance game. Full on elbow to her abdomen and sent her flying. I wish I could find it again to share...

Anyway, on to the topic. I'm not really interested in Kinect at all. I just can't visualize it in a non-gimmicky form that would make me want to play it. I'm sure they exist, I just can't think of them.

This is still a problem for Move, but less so. We've already seen how the Wii has applied motion controls. I'm just picturing that, but with awesome graphics and 3D mapping rather than the crappy sensors in the Wii. I think playing something like a shooter could end up really interesting with Move. Or like using it to represent a sword/shield and bow could lead to some fun and interesting action games.

Kinect could probably do the same thing, and decently, I just feel like it would be less accurate and harder to use without a controller for you and it to use as reference points.

The final problem I see with the two systems is that I can't help but feel like they can't be adequately enjoyed without a much bigger TV than mine (which is only 22"). Maybe I'm completely wrong there, but we'll see. I'm sure those kinds of details will come out in time, as will a better selection of titles. It isn't like I have cash to spend right now anyway.

@Idiggory

I think something with the kinect alot of people miss is that it is more then just motion sensory.
It has complete voice recognition too.

People are already using it for live video chats and such.

Alot of games are announcing they are adding voice recognition to their games in addition to the controler schemes purely for kinect users to have something extra, little things like that.

In the end, sure there will only be so many "great" titles every year for each of these systems, but thats normal for the whole industry as it is anyway.
How many good wii titles are there every year compared to gimick titles? that right there says it all, 99% gimick 1% good games. yet it still sells, because thats apperently what people want.

Mixed reviews then, I see. That's to be expected though. It won't be for everyone.

I just came up with a list of games that I want to have Kinectability:

- Mass Effect 3
- Fifa 12 (or Madden, depending on your locale)
- Dragon Age 2
- Call of Duty (I don't play these but millions of people would die happy if they did this)
- Fable III, because there was a rumour it would be launched with it, but it wasn't. I think.
- Some form of Athletics game. Like, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics on Wii. But better. And with real athletes instead of game characters. But that probably won't happen until the 2012 Olympics.
- WWE 2012. Or UFC 2012. My god that would be fun.
- Forza 4. Armchair racing with virtual wheel/gearstick.
- Road Rash. I can't think of many games more suited to Kinect than this.

I predict big, big things for the dance games. The only flaw the Wii had was the lack of DLC. For things like Dance Central, they will make a mint by adding new tracks to XBL... just look how popular the DLC for Guitar Hero and Rock Band is...
