I know we'll have some kind of personal instance in which things can be stored, but I'm a little hazy on the details. Does anyone know where they have talked about player housing before, or if there is some kind of knowledge-base I can go to, to find that out?

Secondly, what do you want to see from this personal instance? If you've played games like UO or LotRO your experience would be appreciated.

Personally, I'd like full on player housing with a large amount of customisation, though all fitting within the theme. I'd also like player accommodation to recognise your status in some way. For example you could have houses built with stone, with crenelations and buttresses for the champions, whilst those lower down the food chain have wooden shacks.

Another thing I'd like to see is some additional purpose given to them, some reason for you to get people together there. Perhaps you could use your house to host a screening of some recorded match or raid footage you took. you could literally have a room with a large projector showing it, with your various characters stood around.

I had the impression from one of the articles I read, that participating in dynamic events (and, I suppose, 'winning' them) would have articles and objects appearing in your house as a record of accomplishment. I know that the article didn't SAY that specifically, but that was the impression I came away with.

As to being able to buy/create objects on a whim for purely decorative purposes .. bring it on! Didn't we ALL love The Sims at one point?

Well, I'm sure SOME of us did. Developers want people to play games for months and years at a time? Give us something to decorate! I'd be one of them playing forever with the paint chips and agonizing over marble vs wooden floors.

I don't know if it's been said for sure anywhere, but I have the distinct impression that your human character's house will be located in your home district, which seems reasonable to me. As for the degree of customization, I'm hoping for a lot. I know Rubi (of GuildCast) mentioned something about how you have to make a choice between saving an orphanage or a hospital from burning down (or something) at some point, so that seems to hint to me that there will be some fairly significant differences between different players home instances. The wiki also mentions different merchants being available depending on what story choices you make.

I played the free version of LotRO for a little while, but I never got even close to the ammount of cash needed to buy a house. Personally, I'm hoping for achievement and story-based addons to your home, rather than spending cash (in-game or real) for them.

I wonder how much of a difference your background will make. Seeing how your home district is about a tenth of the size of Divinity's Reach, it would be pretty cool if for players of low beginnings the home district is like the slums district, and for noble characters there are all these villas and what-have-you.

Well. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Still, it's pretty cool to think about it.

From what I understand there will be a "Home instance" for everyone like the one they showed on the demo at PAX and Gamescom. This Home district is instanced like they said but will reflect what you have done in-game like the example with the hospital or something. This is purely speculation but I think it would be cool if the home area was a place to record your achievements and things like that, acting sort of like a GW2 version of Hall of Monuments. Rather or not players will have access to their own home and decorate it, that's up in the air though I always liked that idea in adventuring games. Games like Animal Crossing comes to mind where it's very simple to play with yet very engaging at the same time. Also in Final Fantasy XI Online there were in game houses that players were able to decorate with banners and furniture and things so if GW2 had a thing like that then that would be really neat.
