So... how do they work on here?
You can have text in your signature, but no images, Sabre. We made that decision a while ago when people were abusing the images in their signatures. Hope that helps!

Does that go for the profile pictures too? I am finding it hard to identify with posters as easily when I scan through replies when there isn't a picture with it.

Avatars are allowed, but you have to be a premium member to use one.
