These days most games comming out on 360 and ps 3 using super modern graphics , i say why not go to past put a final fantasy oldschool style game similar to final fantasy 9, it was balance of old and new when it came out.
Put it on the wii and bring it out around same time as dragon quest 10 , am i only one thinks this would be cool idea?

I think when many people think of old school Final Fantasy we think about the first one and not 9. Nine was a great game though don't get me wrong. In fact Id rather play it than any of the Final Fantasys on NES. I always thought RPGS on the original NES were super boring.

The original certainly is. The characters have no personality at all. FFII (the Japanese one that was put together with I to make the PS FF:Origins) did a lot better as far as that's concerned from what I've played so far.

FII did not have great mechanics though, and the story will feel really dated since it's been done to death now. I'd say go with FFIII, it's got great game mechanics. The story isn't amazing, but its enjoyable. Characters have no personality, but they don't need it. :P (Though I thought 1 got on fine without any personality for the player characters too!)

Actually for FF1 and 2, the Gameboy Advance versions are better than the PSX versions.

Hooooly crap, FF1. I loved the concept, but the gameplay itself was terrible. Worst ending ever, too. Pretty much just says "And the light warriors won. Yay!" The end boss was ridiculously luck-based. The first time I got to him, he RUB'ed my part out of existence on the first round. So I went and leveled up. Came back, and two-shotted him (one hit from my Paladin, one from my Grand Master). I blinked and said "REALLY? That was it?"

FFIX was boss. Loved the chocobo games mostly, and the music was great. Hated how the main character looked, but the game itself was really awesome. One glaring complaint - still have NO idea who the final final boss was or why we fought it. It's like "Hey, this is actually the reason behind everything. What do you know, a big super evil who brings death to everything. Um, kill it!"

I feel the same way. I somehow mysteriously got the main overworld map theme stuck in my head the other day. The Caribbean style drum and guitar one? So nice. Man, now I want to play it again!

I seem to recall CC being pretty tough the first time through as well, because you couldn't really "level up" all that much. Some of the bosses could be brutal. New Game + made everything easy mode, of course, but it was just challenging enough to keep me on my toes the first time through. The story was the toughest part though. Keeping people and places straight in my mind was really a pain in the neck. Totally worth it though.

It had the best sound tracks for a video game of all the games I've played. I used to pop the game into my playstation just to hear the starting song, Time's Scar.

My friend and me recently got the Chrono Cross bug. Unfortunately she got it first and borrowed my discs. So I've been playing Persona 4 and Xenogears again ...

FFIX was the first FF game I played completely through. Actually my friend and I 2 playered pretty much the entire game in about a night, well at least through 2-3 disks. Since it was my first FF it is also my favorite though I haven't beat FFVII or FFVIII or FFX I have played them but just ended up stopping before completing the game.

As for Necron, I don't know too much about it either, but I did find this thread about him.

To be fair, there are roms and emulators for the PSX. You can even play physical PSX/PS2 games on your PC if you only have the emulator.

He's being picky in that the term for PSX backup games is "ISO" (or, a disc image in general, regardless of what format it is) rather than a ROM. Not that they don't exist. They are SNES, GBA, SEGA, etc ROMs, and PSX, Gamecube, PS2, Xbox, etc ISOs.

That explains it a bit. Maybe I was too young when I played the game - he really just appeared out of nowhere. If they had said at some point, "Necron is basically reacting to the desire to destroy the world. Since this crystal is the life of the world, if someone attacks it, it represents that and summons Necron" then I might have understood a bit more. Oh well, thanks for the read!
