After a few years away from MMO's, I couldn't help myself and just pre-ordered DC Online.
Since I've always loved the online friendships and guilds at Alla here, thought I'd drop by and see if anyone was as excited as me.

I might pick it up at some point but probably not at launch. I'll wait to hear some comments on the game when it's out before deciding if I will play or not.

It's going very good KT. How about yourself?

DC Universe Online

I loved pancake bunnies as well Vataro; twinking our lvl 19 horde out and dominating the battlegrounds. Good times!

^ Really cool.

I love all super heroes, with my liking more in the Marvel World...but DCO looks like a pretty cool game.

Pimp cinematic trailer. Trailers mean nothing about gameplay but that is a fun short movie CGI all the same.

From what I've heard, DCUO is an MMO in the same sense that APB was an MMO. You shared a game world but it was largely a single or twin player action game.

I've been reading for a long time, and I've tried to give the DCU a chance, but it just seems too pristine to me. Like it was all kittens farting rainbows. Just kind of irritated me. Between Superman and The Flash being able to pretty much prevent any crime happening the second someone thought about it. Then you have the god that is Batman. I could just never get into it.

As far as DCUO, all I can say is it looks pretty good. Again, the whole DC aspect is off-putting. Now, if they make a Marvel Online, I'd be all over that.

I love Marvel..But DCU is much more Iconic, The Trinity that is Superman, Wonderwoman and Batman has no equal comparison to anything on Earth-616. Like a rollercoaster both have had ups and downs in Story telling over the years but currently. I'm finding I'm enjoying the stories in DCU over Marvel. The stuff Geoff Johns is doing in Green Lantern: Blackest Night and Brightest Day is genius. Grant Morrison on Batman is storytelling to perfection. DC maybe Pristine, but the stories are currently fresh and exciting were as over in Marvels backyard (after the Fall of Osborn) they seem a little stale and trite. Their current "Heroic" age is kinda a let down.

And speaking of Kittens and Rainbows, have you not seen the cover of X-Force #1 (OK it's puppies) but How awesomely cute is that!

Not to get down on Marvel; If and When they get a MMO, I'm more than sure i'll be pre-ordering that as well until then I'll be trying DC universe online, so drop on by and say "Hi"

I think there was a Marvel MMO in the works, but it was canned. Instead that one guy that work on City of Heroes/Villains left and created that other Super hero game (yea, to lazy to look it up..).

I think a Mutant (x-men) MMO would work out, or maybe in your character creation you can decide how you "became" super human (certain age, freak science experiment, etc.).

NCSoft bought the IP to City of Heroes off Jack Emmert & Cryptic Studios, freeing Emmert to try and make a Marvel MMORPG with Microsoft. Microsoft/Marvel decided they didn't like what they were seeing and didn't think it could compete and pulled the license, leaving Cryptic to scramble for an IP and wind up with the Champions superhero system instead.

Supposedly Marvel is working on a new MMORPG now and NCSoft spun its City of Heroes team into Paragon Studios. Frankly, Emmert leaving CoH was the best thing to ever happen to that game.

Mutant vs Meta-human:

I think the biggest difference between Marvel and DC is that in DCU; the citizens look up to the Super-heroes as Media sensations, it maybe because of the Justice Society was all so "Politically Correct" in the Golden Age. Wheres as in Marvel, mutants are feared and scorned, treated as second class citizens. Perhaps being a optimist and believing the best in people, I'd like to think that IF super-powers were real we would take the high road and accept differances. The reality probably is closer to Marvel universe and goverment would inact registration, testing and "camps".

My roommate has been looking forward to DCUO, but if what Jophiel said was correct, then he may be disappointed.

Marvel's characters tend to be relocatable as they have many of the same problems "we" do, while DC's are "perfect".

Batman is cool, though.

I can't tell if you actually meant relocatable, or if you meant relatable (why firefox doesn't think "relatable" is a word I'm not sure)...

Escapism vs relatability:

Lets see single mom who has a BA in English, lives pretty much paycheck to paycheck, and does odd freelance writing jobs, now if I spun webs out of my **** and climb walls i'd be a Marvel Superhero. Now if i was rich and had a trust fund, was a military pilot and a hotshot reporter I'd be a DC hero.

I do like Marvel in that they do bring their heros down to the street; Daredevil, Luke Cage, Spiderman. But theres also so much fun to be had In the Epic stories DC has to offer; Superman vs Darkseid, Orion and the New Gods, Wonderwoman of Themyscira.

I love both universes, guess what it will really come down to is gameplay, I'm ok with a open world where you can go on a adventure with a friend or two, twice a week. With my schedual that actually works, its why i had to finally give up on WOW i just couldnt give the time to keep up with all the end dungeons and what not.

Today brought disappointing news for comic book fans hoping to don virtual capes in DC Universe Online. This morning, Sony Online Entertainment announced that the DC Comics-inspired massively multiplayer role-playing game's launch had been pushed back from this November until early 2011. The delay of the MMORPG, the first to launch on both the PlayStation 3 and PC, was attributed to SOE's desire to fine-tune the title with feedback from the upcoming beta test.

That delay is probably good news. I'd so much rather wait for a finished product than attempt to play a half finished game that is rushed out the door to help support the cost of finishing it. That seems to be the model for to many MMOs lately.

While DCUO was delayed until 1Q2011 (at least Feb 1st), the DCUO website offers those who Pre-order the game by Nov 15th and then provide proof of their pre-paid pre-order there by Nov 15th with assurance of beta test key by Nov 30th.

Choice of the pre-order retailer selects an exclusive in-game weapon that will be supplied with the game.
