Old blog entries are old

Still, it made me laugh. If you have some time to burn, you may be amused by it as well.

I didnt realize the blog was that old, they are running these 'episodes' on escapistmagazine.com currently.

He also did a LotRO one, which I thought was pretty funny. Was bummed when it was over.

This bit is just classic:

Quote:
So. Hi there. You’re the bad guy? You look sort of scientist-y. Do we fight or… ?

As I approach, a message appears:

Klaus is actually Redstone!

Oh no! It’s…

Er. Who?

I mean, seriously. What? Who the hell is Redstone and why do I care?

“There is no need for this disguise any longer!”, he tells me.

Actually, I don’t really see the point of the disguise to begin with. I mean, I came in and you took it off. What were you trying to accomplish with that? Are you just really proud of the costume? What was it like, coming in to work every day disguised as an evil scientist when you’re really an evil ninja… thing?

I can imagine what the conversations must have been like around here:

HENCH THE HENCHMAN: Redstone! I have a report that-

REDSTONE: What? Who? I am Dr. Klaus.

HENCH: I… Look sir, do we have to do this right now? I mean, there aren’t even any superheroes around.

REDSTONE: CALL ME DR. KLAUS!

HENCH: (sighing.) Right. Sorry. “Dr. Klaus.” I have a report that a superhero is on his way. So, you might want to, you know, do your thing and kill him.

REDSTONE: How could a lowly scientist like myself ever hope to face a superhero?

HENCH: (Gives a halfhearted shrug.) You got me. I have no idea.

REDSTONE: You’d need a mighty supervillain to face a superhero!

HENCH: Okay. Fine. So… if you happen to bump into Redstone at some point…

REDSTONE: (nods approvingly.)

HENCH: …you could give him the message?

REDSTONE: Yes! I will pass along your message to the mighty Redstone if I see him!

HENCH: Great. Do you have any… I mean… Did Redstone mention having any other orders for us the last time you spoke with him?

REDSTONE: Yes. Redstone demands you take the tank outside and use it to guard the front door!

HENCH: We can’t. The only door in or out is the personnel door.

(Pause.)

HENCH: The tank can’t fit.

REDSTONE: Curses!

Anyway, Redstone stops being disguised and we fight.

Lol!

That was a good read. Especially since I am dabling with playing some CO right now and recognize all those quests. :)

It's really a pretty fun game. It's not the quality of total game experience where you marry the game and it becomes your hopes, goals, and dreams for the next 3-4 years. It's more of a light hearted rock um sock um romp in the hay.

The lore is nothing that great. The graphics are decent but not mind blowing.

The costume creator is a freaking blast. I have spent hours designing concepts and tweaking everything. I hope more MMO's do stuff like this it's fun. Plus you look bad *** from level 1. You don't have to run around in rainbow puke rags with your rusty sword for the first 10 to 50 levels before you grind away decent looking gear. (Unless your into that sort of look)

The combat is fun and fast. Flipping around with acrobatics and two guns blazing? Check. Arching a Gigabolt of electricity through the bodies of a swarm of mobs? Sweet. Smashing some faces with an uppercut punch that sends your enemy flying backwards legs akimbo? Ya damn right.

The talent and power system allows for allot of different styles of builds as well.

Like I said, It's not the next incarnation of video game mmo geebus. But It's been a fun game to play off and on for the last few weeks and does not cost much off steam.

Champions Online is going free-to-play in 2011. In preparation, I'm going to read this blog again.

Quote:
The mayor is grateful for the documents, and sends me down the street to meet with the chief of police. I don’t like where my career is headed so far, as I seem to be moving down the chain of command. At level 1 I was working for the self-aware super-intelligence of the city. At level 2 I was working for the mayor, and heading into level 3 I’m working for the chief of police. If this trend continues I’ll be the world’s most powerful assistant meter-maid by level 10.

The big change is that Cryptic will be introducing Heroic Archetypes to the game, which will specify which powers you earn as you level up. For example, choose "The Brute" Archetype and you'll be dishing out melee damage with some survivability thrown in the mix. There will be at least eight Archetypes available once the F2P update is live.

So they're going to an archetype system (at least partially) and Free-to-Play? Sounds like the game never really recovered from its weak launch.

You think F2P means they are doing badly? Look up the profit numbers from LOTRO and DDO since they went F2P. Honestly, I think a lot of games will head that route. Most people spend a lot more than 15 a month when they do it a couple dollars at a time.

This is sadly so true.

I would love if FFXI went free, but the cash shop would probably break the game.
The same could be said about WoW. If WoW was free...I think it would even have more people playing, but what would they charge to stay a good game? Mounts? Level Caps? Gear ilevel?

I was thinking about trying out Champions online, I guess I will wait for it to become f2p (or just wait for DCU to come out).

Erm, yeah. "Doubling your revenue" doesn't mean as much without the initial launch numbers. Turbine says they've "doubled revenue" but without their profit statements, that's pretty meaningless.

If you start with $1 million dollars* and are down to $15,000 before you go F2P and then you go up to $30,000, that doesn't mean your game was a rousing success just because you "doubled revenue".

*Made up numbers for illustration

ive been with this game since its alpha
and while it did have a week launch, it wasnt too weak

the game has actualy been steadily growing in population over the last year, and i think the main reason they are going f2p at this point is because they make a ton off the shop as compared to subs

and if you can get a ton more people to play cuz its f2p, you can easily outdo those sub sales

and they just started to re offer the lifetime subs and you be suprirsed at how many people are jumping on them even knowing its going f2p cuz they know whats in store coming up

great game, especialy since it doesnt force you to play it nonstop to enjoy it :)

I played CO from beta for a few months... the games terrible it was fun for a little while but once you find a build you can pretty much solo most of it and when you go for the big missions its pointless.

Due to the way the class setup is there is no basic trinity setup so no tank healer cc dps etc you can actually build you character to do all styles sounds ingenious but in reality its a joke and very boring as you don't need a team for pretty much the whole of the game and it just doesn't work there are no team mechanics and thats where the games fails big time give it a try but i can bet you wont be playing very long.

Not that I've heard. As of twenty seconds ago of being on the official forums.

Since the release of their last expansion, the population on the servers has been pretty robust.

No, I meant City of Heroes. My stupid husband told me he "heard it was going Free to Play," but when I just called and asked where he heard it, he said, "Oh, it was just a rumor and speculation."

My bad... carry on. Nothing to see here. Smiley: glare

Tuesday is the release of the new end-game system and task forces so I'd have been really surprised to see any immediate F2P plans. I'd suspect that they're expecting another subscriber boost from people who got bored on their 50s and left the game while waiting on something new.

I'll take the chance though to plug that the CoH Going Rogue expansion with all the usual bits (free month, etc) will be $9.99 at Best Buy this (Cyber) Monday.
