I have some questions about the LOTRO f2p, and since I havent made an account yet, I cant discuss them on the official forums, so I was hoping the nice folk at alakazam might be able to help :)
1) What I am really confused about is the distinction between European and US servers. I myself am from London, which is of course, in Europe. If I register on http://www.lotro.com tomorrow, will I be registering to play on US servers or will it redirect me to an EU registration? I would ideally prefer to be on US servers if lag isnt a problem. This is partly due to the fact that codemasters don't really seem to have their act together, and didnt with DDO either. Everyone has their complaints about turbine too, but they do seem the better choice.
2)My plan is to go to premium as soon as possible. I did this with DDO and I am happy with the benefits it gives. It certainly will help with logins if the servers are too busy at the start of f2p. One way to do this is to buy the expansion hard copies from amazon which come with free month of play. My question is regarding what access a box bought from amazon in uk eg. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lord-Rings-Online-Mines-Moria/dp/B001BN5ERE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1284042461&sr=8-1 will be an EU only product key, or will it work for the US servers too?

EU and US clients are different.
Please note EU has not moved over to the new free to play client yet due to some technical issues however they are running a welcome back system for players who no longer subscribe and allowing new players to create a trial account and play for free until they can get the issues sorted.
Though you get none of the new content and will loose a few store points (keep in mind the issue about deeds ie not completeing them) the following is not a bad altenative for a new player
1. Access to all SoA quests areas and deeds free
2. No gold limit (excess gold will go in to escrow)
3. No bag limit
4. 5 charater slots (choose the 2 you want when F2P launches others will be locked)
5. Enhanced XP and I believe rest bounus aswell
6. Free travel
7. Retain all quests and deeds in log even when they are in payed areas when F2P launches
8. Monster play (PvMP)
