Comes out tonight (or tomorrow for those not wanting to go out at midnight to get their copy). Who will be playing it tomorrow? I plan on getting through some campaigns before doing anything online, but we could use this thread to add people to friends lists, etc.

I intend to get it, I'll probably have it by wednesday. Just as a heads up, I suck at RTS.

I hope the AI is a little less predictable this time. Since the days of the first Warcraft, Blizzard, for some reason, has made the enemy to do nothing but waste their resources on reckless (and ineffective) offensives until they have nothing left to go off of and become sitting ducks.

SC II was split into 3 campaigns, the box contains the Terran campaign. The Protoss and Zerg campaigns will be released as seperate purchasable expansions.

Wikipedia wrote:
The Terran campaign, Wings of Liberty, will place players in a mercenary style campaign, as Terran rebel Jim Raynor performs missions for cash. The second release, the Zerg campaign Heart of the Swarm, will have RPG elements. The player will level up the Queen of Blades, Kerrigan, throughout the missions. In the last expansion, the Protoss campaign Legacy of the Void, the dark templar Zeratul will have to employ diplomacy between Protoss tribes to acquire units and technologies for each mission. Each campaign is expected to span 26-30 missions

I will, Its been about 4 years since I purchased a computer game outside of FFXI. Besides with that mentality, you must have issues buying add-ons or sequels to games in general. I can understand if you dont have the cash, but in my case I have the extra money saved up just for this.

Why do we still use these estimated time algorithms? I'm sure some better ones could be arranged.

It isn't like you aren't getting a full game. Each race is fully developed (and I know, having played Beta). It's just that you get that single campaign. But you still have a proper number of missions within one as you would if you had a game of 3. SC and WCIII had a similar number of missions total, just fewer per race.

And each expansion is going to add at least 1 unit to each race, from what I understand. So it isn't any different than, say, Brood War. You just don't get 10 more missions for each race, you get 30 for one.

EDITED to add data:

WCIII had 4 races. Humans had 9 quests, Undead had 8, NEs had 7 and Orcs had 8 (plus two "intro" missions). That's 32 core missions.

Frozen throne had 8 for NEs, 6 for Humans (BEs), 8 for Undead and 1 for Orcs (but it was long, and had two downloadable expansions--I'm only going to count it as 3, though, since all the extra stuff was fluff). It added 1 or 2 units (and at least 1 hero) per race. That's 25 missions.

SCI has more than WCIII had, I think, and EACH expansion is set to add more. I fail to see how this is them being greedy bastards.

I was all set to run out yesterday and pick up a copy...

Till I checked the system requirements *Sigh*

My processor didn't even meet the minimum specs, and my video card didn't match the recommended specs.

If it ran, I bet it would run terribly, and I don't want to waste my time or money.

Guess I'll be passing on this till I get a new system :(

It's funny, even in the beta I was lagging at min settings. And it basically just looked like the old one. But, on max, it does look frickin' awesome.

I picked up the CE edition at last night's midnight sale from my local Best Buy. I promptly brought it home and it's been sitting unopened on my couch ever since. Damn you work!!! Anyway, I'll be opening it tonight after work to check it out.

Cheers,

Nice.

I don't think I'm going to be picking this one up. I played the Beta to death, and I feel like I already experienced everything that the game has to offer me because I probably wouldn't even bother with the campaign mode (playing single player RTS just isn't my thing). And from everything that I've seen, it looks like 75-90% of their production values have gone into the single player experience, because the multiplayer sure doesn't seem like 10 years worth of improvement over SCI to me.

That being said, it does look like a good game. But I had my fill in the Beta. I think I'm just going to hold out until FFXIV.

I gotta be honest, this is actually a big reason I'm buying it. I'm more into single player then multiplayer. That, and what has been done with the map editor amazes me. Example - Metal Slug Marine - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAvZlonNTDg

That's awesome, but I can't find where on the page linked in the description to download the map :(.

The author took down all the download links. Apparently they only want the final version up, which they are working on with the release version of the editor. http://www.sc2mapster.com/maps/metal-slug/

Got the game some 24 hours ago. Haven't had any sleep since. 12 hours straight, it's crazy.

Anyway, the game was good. Graphics were a little outdated, but I guess the cartoony thing is Blizzard's trademark nowadays. And I guess they wanted to keep it somewhat "true" to the original game.

Kerrigan was hot as always and, um, wait, I need to add some spoilers here.

I loved the video of Sarah's fall during the New Gettysburg event. I was thoroughly stunned by the ending, though, with her being cured. Hopefully she'll grow back her red hair (I've got a thing for reds). Seriously hate Blizzard for making me wait another year for the next part of the trilogy. And I made the mistake of reading up on the sequel. Apparently Kerrigan will mutate back again. :(

If they turn this into one of those sad endings where she dies or he sacrifices himself for her, I'm going to kill Metzen. Bad enough that Arthas got pwned for being mind-controlled by Ner'zhul, leaving Jaina with a broken heart. If they do the same in StarCraft 2, I'll go nuts.
