How much has changed?Follow

So, how much has changed in the game?

I played back in the day with beta and for some time after that. I picked up WoW for some years now and calling it quits with WoW. I'm comming back to LoTRO now and have a few questions.

1) Economy, how is it now?
2) Solo friendly at all? I rolled a LM back in the day and just loved that class.
3) Good Kinships to come by and ant adult based ones around? Ya know, people who have a real life, bills, jobs. :)
4) Content still good. I have the original and MoM atm.
5) Will I maybe feel left behind rolling from level 1 again?

From what I've browsed on the forums it seems LoTRO still has the appeal it did back in the day when I was a "founder" as they put it.

Thanks folks!

I am also debating returning, as I haven't played since about 5 months or so after beta. Would be great to hear a reply or two.

Now that the NDA has lifted I can say this... I am in the Beta and, after playing for a week, I re-subscribed. The game is that good.

It is not just the very smooth early-game path, although that is a large part of it. What really got me is coming back and re-playing this game, I found the level of immersion in the story to have grown considerably and now I find it pretty-much the best of any MMORPG anywhere.

If you are a Tolkein fan, which I am, this experience cannot be beat.

I started in Open Beta and have never left. The economy is a bit inflated, especially on the harder to get items.

Not sure what the average player's age will be once FTP comes out, but at present, I'd say it's in the upper 20's to 30's. Our Kin even has members in their 50's to 60's.

As far as casual playing, absolutely. A person can pretty much solo their way to the upper levels. But if you like a bit of adventure, there's still the group instances and raids where the better gear and loot drops.

The main problem lately with LOTRO is lack of content. The developers haven't been very quick on releasing new areas and raids. Hopefully with FTP coming soon, the developers will get back into gear and start designing new content. I'd really love to see Minis Tirith.

Thank you very much for the replies. I have actually been playing the beta for a week or so now as well. The only thing standing in the way of me re-subscribing is FFXIV's near release.. But we will see.

again, thank you!

It is going to a free to play model like ddo so you don't need to re-subscript to it.

1) Economy, how is it now?
I have never needed money. I always made enough to buy the big-ticket in game items (house, bank vaults) and all skills/repairs I ever needed.
About the only thing I would want, that I do not have money for is the Symbols (sold in AH) to make 2nd age level 65 weapons).

2) Solo friendly at all? I rolled a LM back in the day and just loved that class.
You can solo any class as far as you want. You can now solo ALL of epic volume 1.

3) Good Kinships to come by and any adult based ones around? Ya know, people who have a real life, bills, jobs. :)
I am biased for TiNFS on Meneldor (see sig). We are all real people with jobs or school, some even have kids. Don't think anyone is living in their mom's basement (Mora? j/k).

4) Content still good. I have the original and MoM atm.
I think so. There HAS been a bit of a lull while they worked on F2P, but there is quite a bit past Moria (5 level increase, 3 zones).

5) Will I maybe feel left behind rolling from level 1 again?
You can level very quickly. I leveled 1-59 during beta. There will be tons of new people in the same boat so you wont need to be alone all the time.

everyone else covered the first 4 points good so gonna hit up 5...

With the F2p launch there will be a ton of low level people in the zones again, heck I leveled an alt to 51 in beta, something I've never gotten above 20 on live, so myself will be in the lower zones also with a few alts (I love the reworked lower zones that much!)

May I ask what has changed in the leveling areas? I always liked Archet over the dwarf starting zones.

They've revamped the first 30 levels by revamping the Shire, Bree, Lore Lands, and the Elf area. Just basically a better flow to how you move from point to point. Not sure how the Dwarf area has changed, as I have only ran it a few times in the past and haven't been back for the revamp. IMO LL is now one of the funnest areas to level through.

One of the things I have really liked once I stopped trying to do ALL the quests is that there is enough content in the lower areas that you do not have to do it all on every alt just to level. If you are an Elf or Dwarf and move from Ered Luin to Bree at about 15 (probable but could be done sooner) there is no need to do the Combe/Staddle/Marsh content, that is really for Men. Hobbits are the same for Shire to Bree at about 15. It's there if you need it but you should level to 18 or 19 and do Barrow-Downs and North Bree (which should get you to about 22), then head to North Downs or the Lone Lands.
