I am deeply saddened no one has mentioned Phantasy Star IV. That game rocks. And only one person mentioned Yoshi's Island....was the crying really that bad? (don't answer that). I've played every remake of Final Fantasy IV, still my favorite (probably cause it was my first RPG). And while not exactly old school, I still break out Psychonauts every once in a while. The best for PC is easily Planescape Torment.

Definitely Chrono Trigger. I recently went through and beat it a 2nd time (my old save file got corrupted). Eventually I'll get around to unlocking all the endings.

I also recently purchased the old NES Kirby game off of the Wii Store, and I've been having fun playing that again too.

My absolute favorite though, is FF9. I'm still impatiently waiting for Square and Sony to get off their *** and release it on the PSN. Going by how they spaced out the release of 7, 8 and Tactics, they should have released 9 sometime last month.

How the hell is Baldur's Gate 2 not on anyone's list. You people suck.

This was the first RPG I ever played (thank you, SEGA channel). Awesome game.

I remember buying Phantasy Star IV for $99.99 when it first came out.

I also paid $79.99 for Dragon Warrior 2 when it first came out.

And of course, no one mentioned (from what I saw anyway) Dragon Force, Shining the Holy Ark, Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force 3 (and the first two), and Panzer Dragoon Saga... shame on all of you!

x2 for Baldurs Gate, that was good stuff.

I still MUD from time to time, that's always a classic time waster. Or some 'ol LoTRD and Trade Wars.

A really old computer game I loved to play, and I've since forgotten the name, but you built tanks, planes, ships, and slowly moved out and discovered your world while looking out for the enemy (the computer). It's what Starcraft is now, but like in 1992.

More importantly, how the hell was the Monkey Island games not mentioned yet?

Monkey Island and King's Quest 6. I spent soo much time on those. Oddly enough, KQ 6 was the only game from that series that I ever played...

As for games that are FF like, Phantasy Star IV and Star Ocean are two of my favorite RPGs.

Which ones specifically? My favorite is Quest of the Avatar. Some of the others were cool but that one stood out imo.

The site I linked above has 10 Ultima games. Some are duplicates on multiple systems though.

SNES:
Chrono Trigger
Super Mario RPG (God, I wish they would port this to GBA/DS)Smiley: frown
Sailormoon RPG (only done through emulation, of course)
Donkey Kong Country (1, 2, and 3)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Final Fantasy IV & VI

PC:
Master of Orion (1 & 2)
Master of Magic
Civ (I and II)
Alpha Centauri (and the Alien Crossfire x-pack)
SimCity 2K
An awesome little RPG called Castle of the Winds
Mordor: The Depths of Dejenol (which has nothing to do with Tolkien)
High Seas Trader
Lords of the Realm (I & II)
Lords of Magic
Betrayal at Krondor (this actually took me away from the PC for a bit by inspiring me to read just about the complete works of Fiest)

Original Game Boy/GBC:
Donkey Kong Land (1)
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

GBA (Is this "old" yet?):
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance

That's all I can think of right now, though there's probably more.

Not exactly:

64-bit? Not exactly.

Though, to be fair, it does take care of all the configuring of DOSBox for you for each game, so...

So i decided to dust off one of my favorite old RPG games Breath of fire III, and it kinda started a non-stop quest to find and old RPG game that i some how missed for the NES or SNES. Anyone have some good old RPG games that are sorta how finalfantasy games work where you have random battles ect.

I probably know of some you might not have played. Romancing SaGa 3, Front Mission (robot suit RPG!), Seiken Densetsu 3 (which is Secret of Mana 2), Monstania, Soul Blazer (Zelda game style), Terranigma, Dragon View (you may find yourself really into this game). Well those are a bunch that I know of so enjoy! i hope this helps and you have a ton of fun on these!

Been playing the PSX version of XCOM: UFO Defense the last few days on my PSP. Fun game for its time.

Playing Chrono Cross, that game is amazing for the time it was created in. Even though it was four disc, it had amazing art and gameplay. Plus I love the way some of the characters act

I started playing Sim City again. The SNES version.

I still can't get to a Megalopolis, but my new record is 450k people. Then I left the game on and walked away for 30 minutes, everything was burnt down.

I just started up on the SCHTHACK server. People are helpful, and the game feels just like I remember, plus better drop rates.

While not RPGs in the role-play sense, I am shocked (and a little disgusted) at the lack of mentions for two of the best games ever made, and on the opposite side of the spectrum...

Shenmue I & II (Dreamcast. Xbox version of II sucked. It had crappy English dubbing again).
Deus Ex

Fabulous games. I also like to play games which never came out in the UK. And there's lots of them. Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger (until the PSX re-release), Super Mario RPG etc. etc. etc.
Also, I feel Suikoden and Suikoden II also kinda fall under this section as they were released for about a week and then deleted. Cost a bomb to buy now-a-days.

Suikoden! !!!

I loved 1 to death, I never finished II but I should! I've seen the majority of the game at my brother, same goes for III, IV and V, actually. Never finished these for that exact reason.

There's Skies of Arcadia, too. The game is awesome², and I've also seen that in it's entirety at my brother. It's one of the most memorable RPG's I've ever seen, I've played it for a little bit but it froze up on me...

I never played Skies of Arcadia, but I do still have a Dreamcast. I might have a look on eBay.
