I just bought the game today, but I can't get it running. I can't seem to find which is my "provider phone number," is that the number that my internet dials when I sign on? Is the provider user name and password my AOL screen name and password? I didn't know if I was suppose to pick ethernet or modem so I just picked modem. I am really lost and I need some help, thanks.

do you have broadband or dail up?

if you have boardband (dsl, cable, etc..) then pick ethernet.

if you have dail up then pick modem

the phone number is only used for dail up isps.

if you need any more help dont be afraid to ask

ok lets see if we can get you connected lol
the user id and password you need to enter on the screen is your isp password and username.
then put in the telephone number for the dial-up.
you can enter up to three for alternates just like your PC.
look at computers DNS settin
and see if its auto or manual then enter which ever it is onto the ps2
then save setting.
okydoky...
basically you are just transfering the info you use to connect on your PC to the ps2...
make sense? lets hope it works...

I did all the steps, I don't know how to check the DNS numbers but i'll give it a try. I heard that I have to call up AOL and ask to use online games, have you heard of that? Then I have to pay an extra $4.99 a month. Does anyone here also have AOL dial up?

i dont have AOL so it might be that they have some sort of permission system for online gaming...if so, that purely sux for you :((((
to check for DNAS settings, depending on your OS, cuz i am assuming windows xp here, hit start button, go to control panel, right click on network connections and choose explorer, in network connections window, right click on AOL or whatever your listing is under dial-up, from there it has dial-up properties, you will see 5 tabs in the window, choose the networking tab.
find tcp-ip, highlight and click properties, look for the DNS buttons,ie, the ones that say "obtain DNS automatically" or "use the following server address"
if its automatic, click that on your ps2 setup
if its "use the following..." put those numbers in the appropriate slot...
however, since i know you use AOL now, i suspect they are the suspect in the problem with connections...damm them...and i thought Bill Gates was the devil lol

i had AOL when ifirst started EQOA. you need to call your AOL provider and get there monthly gaming fee(dont know why they started this). it is only 5 bucks so no worries there. but yea you need tocall AOL. and then when you set up your internet adapter use the software that come s with it. then after you set it all up and you get ready to put you number in it will search for all the AOL numbers in you part of country. then you choose yoyur number.

if all else fails call SOE/AOL/your internet provider for help.

hope i have helped.

yeah bad thing about AOL is that bull crap fees they charge.

i believe they programed everquest to work specially with AOL. something about the way AOL logs on, not too sure about this.

but yeah, call your isp and see if they can help. if nothing then try sony.

if you still cant get on then prehaps you should look around for a more reliable Internet Serivice Provider.

We had to drop AOL becuz of EQ. What would happens is this... we would get DC'd from EQ, not AOL of course, but when we would log back into EQ and try to play the toon that just got DC'd we'd find that EQ would say...that Charactor is in the game world already...(not exact werding). We would not be able to use that toon for up to 24 hours if ever till SOE would fix it! PAIN IN THE BUTT!
Have AOL/EQ fix that nasty problem!?!?!?

I stoped playing EQ about 7 months ago because i had a problem wioth getting on with a chrecter(when ihad dal up). i would go LD a bunch of times and then when i tried to get bac on it would give me an error message number 6 somthin i dont remember. it would always happen after i would play a char for so long. i couldnt get on with my mains or the chars i just made a week b4 so i decided to quit.

fortunately i got DSL wireless for all over the house so i picked up EQOA the day after xmas and it has never never let me on. tho i go LD a few times every other week(think cause PS@ overheats or somthin).

yea but AOL does **** me off.

I have broadband connection but every now and then I use dial up when my girlfriend is on the computer.

I dial up using AOL and I never had to call them once.

Sarrlocke, do you have caller ID or voice mail on your home phone (not an answering machine)?

I couldnt connect for awhile on dial up because I didnt know I had to disable my caller ID and voice mail. To do this, use the network adapter configuration disc and it will ask you if there is anything "special" you need to do before connecting. Choose all that apply.

After I did this, I connected just fine.

my access number looked something like this *70, 555-5555
