What i wanna know is why people always use NooB as an insult to some one else? i know what a noob is and i am not one my self, but why use it? i see people calling lvl 30+ chars noobs. if they got to lvl 30 they are certainly not a noob, they just suck at the game.

So why use NooB?

I agree that this type of insult is frequently used. I think most of the time one laughs at the mistakes that a person makes with there first charactor. And its not done out osf anger. I understand a person may know must more at 30 than at 20. But even I still make mistakes at 53. Theres much to learn in this game i think a persons first charactor is a learning experience throughout the life cycle of this charactor.
It is my opinion that as in real life we think we know more than we do. Arrogance is simply human nature. As our charactors become, will say, older we gain wisdom through experience. Some people may progress faster than others. But we all end up in the same spot in the end.
It is my experience that less mature people tend to insult more. And are less patient. This has nothing to do with a persons age. Just ones mentality.
As in people who curse a lot. This person is not stupid. But rather mentally lazy. When i see people type curse words on a regular basis. It tells me there using these curse words to try to impress others around them. And dont understand that people are insulted by this behavior. As in impatient people who insult others.

i agree with you completely alcholica. Those who are often called "noobs" aren`t really, yes they may not be as good as everyone else yet, but thats because they don`t have as much experience under their belt...lets not forget when most everyone started out they to knew as much as those people whom you are accusing of being a "noob".You shouldn`t condem and put down others you should be helping them so they aren`t "noobs".In the end the ones who truly seem like "noobs" are the accusers because they make no effort in helping these people.

Pheoniix you couldn't be any more right on that one. We definately need to stop shunning out the inexperienced players simply because if we do they won't want to play anymore. I realize that quite obviously I have alot to learn in this game yet but it's still nice to pass down what I DO know that way I don't have to look too too bad lol =) Help the noobs! They'll get better over time I promise! ^_^

For the most part, I agree with everyone's stance on this subject. However, my definition of the word is slightly different from everyone that has posted so far. I agree a "noob" is someone new to the game as it derives from the word "new." But I also call people "noobs" who play like "noobs" or someone who is new to the game. "Noob" can be a noun or an adjective. I don't care what someone's level is, if he/she plays like he/she just bought the game, IMO he/she is a "noob."

Now one may say well he is level 60 (or some high level), How did he make it so far and be a noob. Well, it really isn't that hard to grind. Just takes patience, no drastic skills. When someone is really terrible at this game I call them a noob. I think it is much nicer than saying, "Man you really suck at this game."

example 1: a level 3 player who has never played EQOA in his life is a noob - the noun.

example 2: a level 54 player running across the kappa bridge with his pet out training everyone unknowingly is a noob - the adjective.

Also noob doesnt neccesarily have to be an insult. Most people use it as one but there are some "true noobs" out there. I think people take it more as insult as they gain levels but don't gain knowledge. Face it, if you're a noob, well, you're a noob. Don't get mad, just learn from it.

P.S. I'm probably still a noob. If someone was to call me one I would laugh and say ok. Wouldnt take offense. We are all noobs in some aspects of this game. We don't know it all.

Thnx for the replies, its just that i think one should't call another player a n00b unl;ess they are realy new to the game. NooB doesnt always have to be bad it just means your new to EQOA. if a high level person that is not new yto the game and does some dumn *** thing, i think he/she should be called a dumnass or a jackass or a hippie(ohhh how i loath the laid back ones), nay, not ladies, a knight must always be kind and gental to a ladies mental and phisical needs. well thats just whjat i think.

You know, I heard a word the other day for a "high level noob." They called this guy a "choob." I'm not sure what that means but some people say its for high level players who play like newbies.

For the most part, people who buy or trade their accounts and start off at lvl 50.

You know its funny how Noob is meant as an insult, but it is thrown around so much that its lost its meaning. I remember back when noob would belittle people, now its just another meaningless word. When people call me a noob i respond with a "Oh that cut me deep man, I think I'll go shed a tear over that one." and i turn it around and use it against them. Some people need to expand their vocabularies past 4 letter words.

really, someone that is new to the game should be called a "newbie"
but for someone that isnt new to the game, sucks, and acts like a donkey they should be called "noob"

the word noob is misused like so many other words in our language

example:
gay: this use to mean happy go luckly and crap but no it used to refer to homosexuals

bytching: use to be used as when someone started yelling at you (usually your wife or girlfriend for all the ways uve been ******** up) but not its used for something cool like "that car is bytching!"

This wasn't really a good example because so many, if not all, homosexuals refer to themselves as gay. That kinda defeats the purpose of it being used as a derogatory word right?

But I see what you mean about words being missused.
