Here is an idea that would make the jedi grind a little less miserable.

What would you guys think of extra skill points that you could use for your grind to jedi but you would not be able to use the associated skills if you used the extra points for that skillbox.

This would allow people, like me, to not trash thier existing character.

Personally, I think you should get more skill points over time. Not a lot, maybe one a month or something.
Otherwise, I see this game ending for a lot of people in about six months.
I don't see that the path to Jedi should be given any favor. What if they were already on that path? And for the 50% not interested in Jedi, why should they have to trash their character to try something different?

Do you realize what you just wrote? The 50% NOT interested in becoming a Jedi are NOT going to trash their characters because they are NOT chasing the holos.

I don't think SOE will make the path to enlightenment any easier than it is now. If you don't want to lose your skill/professions, stay off the holo brick road.

What I was getting at is why should becoming a Jedi give you the ability to get a free ride on another career?

I think the problem with this is that people would just stack a ridiculously high amount of professions. Need to mind buff someone? Drop everything you have and reactivate Master Musician/Master Dancer. Need to buff someone? Deactivate Master Dancer/Musician and pick up Master Doctor/Combat Medic (I know it wouldn't make that much of a difference with CM, just making a point). Want to do some Jedi Missions? Pick up Master Bounty Hunter. Want to track that ******* Jedi down? Pick up Master RAnger. Want to KILL that jedi? Pick up Master TKA/Doctor.

See how this could be exploited?
