My son recently bought both Cataclysm and MOP physical copies for our mac. He got some extra money from our neighbours for feeding the cat while they were on holiday so spent £10 on upgrading MOP to the deluxe version to get the pet and mount. At what point can he use the pet and mount? He has a level 52 dwarf paladin but is the pet and mount limited to a pandarian character?

Assuming your son has trained the appropriate riding skills, he should be able to use the mount right away, since it's a level 20 mount. The pet and the mount should be delivered to his character by in-game mail, I believe. After retrieving the items, it's just a matter of right-clicking them to add them to the Pet and Mount Journals from where they can then be summoned.

Once he has learned them both the mount and the pet are available on all of his characters on this account. He can summon the pet as a companion right away. If he wants to use it in Pet Battles he has to learn the Pet Battle skill first which I think costs 50 Gold.
