WoW installation issues.Follow

#1 May 12 2012 at 12:27 AM Rating: Decent
Hey there, I've just bought the WoW Battlechest. I got to about 83% of the installation on the second disk, and I got an error notification saying:

" The installer was unable to read the file "Sound\Music\ZoneMusic\IcecrownGlacier\IC_GeneralIntro_01.mp3". This error may be caused by problems with the media or drive at D:\ --for example, a scratched or dirty CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, hard drive corruption, or a networking problem while downloading the installer. (The error code was 4.) If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (ReadJob::Execute)"

What does this mean, and how can I fix it? Thanks :)

At the risk of sounding like Captain Obvious -- for some reason you're having trouble reading one of the files. As they said, it might be a problem with your drive or perhaps a scratched/dirty disk.

A quick google with the file info you gave didn't show that this is a common install issue, so check hardware on your end. Clean the disk and clean your drive if you know how or can get a simple tool to do it with (I used to use a disk that had a small brush attached). Perhaps Tech Support could steer you to a copy of the file to avoid having to download everything.

I actually remember having that issue the 1st time I installed WoW. wow...
I think I had to make a copy of the CD on to the hard drive, and then run the file(s) from it. This did 2 things: proved my disk drive was find and that the CD was readable. Why I would get the error (it happened a few times, and always at the same %) I'll never know.
