Mists of Pandaria Press TourFollow

Welp. a lot of info just dropped. Here's the summary of it all. All info is a cross-post from MMO-Champion:

  • The final patch of Mists of Pandaria will be the Siege of Orgrimmar! Both factions lay siege to the city to bring Garrosh down and end his reign of Warchief.
  • The new LFR loot system will allow everyone to roll individually. Upon winning a roll, if the boss has an item that you can use, you will win it. It will only be in LFR to begin with, but can be added to other parts of the game later.
  • An 11th character slot has been added.
  • AoE Looting has been added.
  • There will not be an item squish in Mist of Pandaria.
  • No new race models are ready to be added yet.
  • There will be nine level 90 heroics for players as well as three raids with 14 raid bosses and three difficulties. There will be an additional two world bosses.
  • Scenarios will take place at level 90, in an instance, and reward reputation and Valor points. They don't need a healer, tank, and DPS, just DPS is fine. Each will take 10 to 30 minutes to complete and five or more will be available for launch.
  • In Challenge Modes, the vast majority of players will most likely earn a bronze medal even if they are a relatively unskilled player. After a player earns all the medals at the Bronze level, they will be rewarded with an achievement and title. Completing all of the Silver medals will earn a set of spectacular gear for transmogrification, and completing all of the gold will earn a unique epic flying mount. Challenge modes will be available for the six new dungeons at launch.
  • Cloud Serpents are the Pandaren's mount of choice. You can raise your own by doing 20 days of daily quests.
  • Warlocks got the most class changes in MoP, along with new pets.
  • There will be more mounts and less color swaps for different rewards.
  • They are adding armor to creatures to give them varied appearances, something other than just simple color changes.
  • There are now seven zones, up from five. This was done to add more content to the game and give players a less linear progression path so that leveling for a second or third time isn’t the exact same.
  • There will be one new arena and two new battlegrounds at launch.
  • PvP pet battles are going to be fun and causal, only tracking the number of wins and not the number of losses. When fighting another player, you cannot see the other players name or communicate with them.
  • Currently, every race except Goblin and Worgen can learn the ways of the monk.
  • The Pre Mists of Pandaria Patch will be roughly two weeks before launch and bring simple rewards. It might involve a scenario with Theramore and the Alliance vs Horde theme. Chen Stormstout might also come to the local cities and get players excited about what is coming.

    I'm liking the monk trees so far. Read through tank one and I like it so far.

    Stagger seems pretty cool.

    lolwut? WoW Farmville? Surely that is a sign of the apocalypse.

    I doubt I will be playing that long, but would surely consider resubbing at the time just to bring Garrosh down.

    I am curious how the Garrosh raid will go. I wonder who will be bosses for that... Far as I could tell Garrosh really doesn't have much people that would give their life for him other than no-named npcs. My lorejitzu is a bit weak so please enlighten me if I am wrong.

    Still reading through it all, that's a lot to digest... thoughts as they come to me:

    They gave monkeys machine guns, well that's a twist.

    I spy talbuks outside the jade temple.

    Mice with explosives. Crazy evil bunnies, alright I can work with that.

    I like the idea of raising a new mount. That was kind of fun with the frostsaber, wouldn't mind doing it again.

    Female Pandarian turned out all right.

    Meh, we went from 5k DPS to 15k DPS between WotLK and Cataclysm, right? So we're looking at 45k DPS in MoP?

    MSBT already compounds hits to prevent flooding, so that 100k crit stack I've seen pop up will be a 300k crit stack?

I was able to confirm that, yes, there are some minor glyphs druids are going to absolutely adore. Here they are:

    * Glyph of Stars Transforms your Moonkin Form into Astral Form. This glyph essentially makes your character appear as a spirit instead of a moonkin. You look very nearly like you do while dead -- but people can see you this time ... and your armor, for that matter.
    * Glyph of the Orca Transforms your Aquatic Form into an orca. This one is pretty straightforward. Remember those orcas in Northrend? Yeah. Much better than your weird, snarling, rubbery seal.
    * Glyph of the Chameleon Gives you a random appearance when you shift into Bear or Cat Form. Essentially, this one gives you a random coloring every time you shift. Great for breaking up the monotony of locked-in bear/cat coloring.
    * Glyph of the Stag Transforms your Travel Form into a stag that other players can mount. Yes, that's right. Your pals can ride you while you're in Travel Form, and you're also a stag instead of the clearly inferior cheetah.
    * Glyph of the Tree Lets you transform into Treant Form.

    So these basically own, right?

    So this leads to the big question: are we gonna end up with Overlord Thrall (...meh, he's had his time). Overlord Vul'jin (could be ok depending on what the orcs do) or Overlord Saurfang (OMG yes please)?

    This stuff doesn't make me any more eager to come back to the game.

    EDIT: Actually, after looking over the hunter changes (not too enthused about the rogue changes tbh), I may come back and play my hunter. I'd need to get my PC out of storage, though.

    That was pretty much my reaction when I saw the part about having farms and raising animals (iirc).

    It is interesting to see that they have put a focus already (in the development cycle for f'ucks sake) that this will not be a super happy panda themed adventure. When you have to change the expectations and narrative about the expansion due to the almost overwhelming "Meh" the community gave Kung Fu Panda Adventure Island that speaks volumes. It is almost reminiscent of their attempts to change the communities perception that Arthas was the "Big Bad" and built up Deathwing in the final legs of the WOTLK expac.

    That being said, bringing the pain to Garrosh sounds like a good time.

    Yeah, it only took them eight years to replace the placeholder model, but better late than soonâ„¢, right?

    They've been saying that from the beginning, but people were too hung up on the pandas. All the talk about "the true enemy is war itself" and the buildup of the Alliance/Horde conflict, and everyone whined because you can't stick a sword in war's face so they couldn't conceive of the idea of not having one overarching Big Bad.

    Druids are tamable -- that dude got himself tamed in Slave Pens, afterall.

    Anyways, back to the press release...

    AoE Looting = OMG OMG OMG YES YES ABOUT FARKING TIME

    Killing Garrosh = YAY!

    Female Pandas = Cool. A little cute in the face, but the general body shape is good. Curves, not ultra-feminine like worgen. They remind me of dwarves with claws and paws.

    WoW FarmVille = Optional content. Don't have to do it. Will try it, if I find it fun I'll do it! If not, *shrugs*, oh well.

    Pet Battles = Mom should love this! Turn-based optionally PvP battle that you have time to THINK and aren't having to Mouse-Turn to avoid LoS errors? hell yeah. I might even do this myself.

    Paladins, less RNG, more reliable? YAAAAAAAY

    Monks? Didn't read in depth, but I'm always up for trying something new. Will definitely roll a pandaren monk.

    11 Character Slots? I would have rather they removed the 10 per server restriction and allow us to have 50 straight characters, any server combination, but meh. At least adding one will allow me to make a Pandaren Monk.

    Talent System? Old News, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new talent system.

    No Item Squish = Thank God. I don't have to worry about losing my ability to solo/duo old stuff and said old stuff should be even easier when MoP is live.

    If you had spent any time on o-boards, you would have seen the ridiculous amounts of whining and "you're joking, right!?" coming from the majority of the idiots who plague those boards.

    Many, many people were saying "MoP is just some joke, they're not being serious with this" for months after it was announced officially.

    How else did you expect Blizz to respond?

    They're kind of under fire from the o-boarders, people keep whining about the smallest crap, and the whining never stops. Sometimes I wonder if the collective playerbase wouldn't be happier if the whole game was just cancelled and scrapped tomorrow, there's that much whining going on sometimes. If I were the devs, I'd probably end up ripping my hair out in frustration at some of the absurdity I see in the o-boards.

    The information looks exciting to me, to be honest. Yes, I would love to see a new WotLK expansion, but already MoP has me more interested than Cataclysm did (and I'm the guy who LOVES lore and couldn't wait to see all the changed to the world). New talent system looks like it'll give us some good, non-math-centric options; I'm already groaning over what to take on my druid. Say what you want about the pet battles... I know I'm going to love them. Scenarios seem to be trying to take a step up to Rift's instant adventures (though Rift's IAs still sound better), so that's a step in the right direction.

    Overall, I know I'll buy it and play it for a few months. And I'll likely enjoy it too!

    Cataclysm, well, I loved the new 1-60 content, but what I didn't like is the emphasis on "gotta make everything HARDER to do! Wrath was too easy, everything's gotta be HARD HARD HARD" until way late in the expansion.

    I'm not in WoW for a challenge; I'm there to RELAX and have a fun time.

    You can't relax when you're wiping over and over again in heroics, or when you have difficulties finding decent gear through quests, or when crafting materials are a pain in the butt to get.

    They're giving us Challenge Modes and non-LFR raids in MoP; hopefully that'll be enough for the "elite" players, so that they can allow the general population to enjoy some more relaxed fun.

    Hopefully the crafting materials won't be a pure snore-fest to obtain (What's up with the ridiculously low drops on Embersilk for example? Or the ridiculousness of making Truegold? Even Titansteel wasn't THAT hard to make), hopefully we'll have actual decent quest rewards and there won't be such huge unfair bias on entry-level weapons and armor (why do some 333s get rewarded from easily-soloable quests, while the others you have to do a 5-man group quest chain for, and a couple are CRAFTED?), and hopefully the Heroics aren't like getting your teeth pulled until way late in the expansion.

    Cataclysm was awesome for the 1-60 content, but Endgame...

    Left much to be desired IMO.
