Paying $25 for something in-game seems so, I don't know, unfair.
I have seen other people saying something along these lines about it to. Explain to me how something purely cosmetic is unfair? No one is forced to buy the thing and it in no way changes the game for those that do.
It's mere existance changes the game for everyone unless they'd include an option that would allow to turn off the display of any premium models and replace them with something else. There is nothing wrong with driving a KIA as long as everybody does, but things change once people start putting Bentleys in their driveways.
I'm just thinking that a game world should overcome social differences rather than duplicating them in a purely one-way fashion. There is absolutely nothing you could do in the game world to obtain this or any other premium model. In fact, the more time you spend in the game, the less likely is it that you spend it earning the $25 required.
I could tolerate this, if earnings from these things went towards charity projects, and you'd receive those mounts and pets as a little token of gratitude. But instead they're creating more and more status symbols to fill their sharehoolder's pockets, and that I think is just plain wrong.
This might just be a case of an old-fashioned pen & paper player meeting the modern gaming industry. Fine, if that kind of thing is what people want, then by all means be it that way. I don't have to like it, though, let alone participate or even having a positive attitude towards this kind of thing.
Btw, where is the lore behind this new type of dragon? What's Tyrael's charger doing in World of Warcraft? Murlock Marine? Thor?
Guess it doesn't matter as long as it brings in money in some way.
