I saw a few of these in Orgrimmar last night. Fairly large and more than two close by becomes very annoying. I talked to a guy that had one and he said you can't land them, they just hover. We got on the zep to Borean Tundra and he never touched down. They do look cool but really bright.

A lot the theorizing is that we're going to be getting more Eastern-style dragons in MoP, and that this is the skeleton they will use. Easily believable, as I can't really picture Blizzard letting this model go to waste on just one mount.

Paying $25 for something in-game seems so, I don't know, unfair. You buy the game, get an online subscription, and then they come out with in-game matter that cost money. At least it is not as bad as those F2P games where shelling-out $30-40 a month is the only way to experience the game. :P

{EDIT}

@IDrownFish I want a White Russian now! Duuude there's a beverage in my hand.

I have seen other people saying something along these lines about it to. Explain to me how something purely cosmetic is unfair? No one is forced to buy the thing and it in no way changes the game for those that do.

I kind of like the design of it personally. After looking at re-skins of the same 2 models since Cata started it's nice having at least something different flying around. The color is a little bright for me, but I think the color does look cool for shadow priests.

On a side note I was considering getting it at some point until I got the Blazing Drake from Deathwing tonight!

It's mere existance changes the game for everyone unless they'd include an option that would allow to turn off the display of any premium models and replace them with something else. There is nothing wrong with driving a KIA as long as everybody does, but things change once people start putting Bentleys in their driveways.

I'm just thinking that a game world should overcome social differences rather than duplicating them in a purely one-way fashion. There is absolutely nothing you could do in the game world to obtain this or any other premium model. In fact, the more time you spend in the game, the less likely is it that you spend it earning the $25 required.

I could tolerate this, if earnings from these things went towards charity projects, and you'd receive those mounts and pets as a little token of gratitude. But instead they're creating more and more status symbols to fill their sharehoolder's pockets, and that I think is just plain wrong.

This might just be a case of an old-fashioned pen & paper player meeting the modern gaming industry. Fine, if that kind of thing is what people want, then by all means be it that way. I don't have to like it, though, let alone participate or even having a positive attitude towards this kind of thing.

Btw, where is the lore behind this new type of dragon? What's Tyrael's charger doing in World of Warcraft? Murlock Marine? Thor?

Guess it doesn't matter as long as it brings in money in some way.

Sadly it's not always a one-way fashion... the folks I know that have no money problems HAVE NO problems because they don't buy the "luxuries", sure some rich folk have to have every new thing that comes out... but I know far more "broke / welfare / assistance/ whatever recipients that have cigarettes, alcohol, every paid "real money" pet / mount that blizzard has released than I do folks that don't have financial problems that have them...

Maybe that just means I need new friends but at the same time when they don't work for their money, they can spend the money they do have on any "oooh shiny" they choose.

I have to admit it. Of all the mounts they've released, this is the one that's got the best shot at getting my money. Nonetheless, $25 is simply far too much to spend on something like that, when I consider that there are still things I want that cost about that much that I can use outside of WoW.

Holy crap... that is a gorgeous mount. If I had a spare $25 and was actually actively playing the game, I might get it.

I don't' think the picture/gif does it justice. Saw them yesterday and my reaction was "meh" and then I saw one in game and thought "awesome". I still won't be buying one (I don't think I'll ever be willing to pay for something that is purely digital) but I hope they use this model in the new expansion for an in-game mount reward. I've been getting a bit sick of drakes and this design just puts me in mind of something a bit more magical.

I picked it up last night. It looks great in flight but unlike the other Pet Store mounts, it just doesn't quite work well for the ground-bound lowbies.

At first I thought it was a whole new animation but after watching it a bit, I suspect that it is using the animation of the dragonhawks or nether rays (or possibly even the wyverns). All of those mounts have that undulating quality though used on a long snake-like mount, it gives a somewhat different overall effect.

Stormwind has been full of pretty yellow sparkles the last couple of days. I'm firmly in the "It's nice but not $25 nice" crowd.

I feel the same way. The drake mounts are getting lame.

Well, it makes people around you think you're a !$%^.

Although I guess for most of the people who buy this, that really isn't a change...

Why would I care?

There's no way in !@$!%^ I'm paying $25 real money for a pixel mount that flies the same speed and does the same things that my "free" mounts do.

When I see one, I just think, "There's a !$^% idiot."

I wouldn't label anyone who purchased Blizzard pets/mounts an idiot. But I would not spend any money on things like that either.
I'm rather indifferent to it.

Agreed. I have one and I'd like to think I'm not an idiot. I am an obsessive mount collector and a wonderful guildie knows this and bought me one for my birthday. I think I would have preferred to see this model show up in MoP in a few different colours though, because I think it looks great. And using it as a ground mount cracks me up, it's like a giant snake with wings.
