Is the Love Fest Worth Doing?Follow

I briefly mentioned this in another post but decided to pose it as a topic question. After having just finished the Lunar Festival I'm a bit OD'd on holiday quests. From what I can tell, the big prize is getting enough tokens for the pink flamingo mount which doesn't interest me. Maybe it's living in FL and having seen one too many pink flamingo yard ornaments...lol.

I did the initial quest, one of the dailies, and made one bracelet to present to one of the city leaders but it looks like these quests are the same thing over and over to acquire more tokens.

For people who want the flamingo I can understand the interest, but am I missing anything else that would make participating in this quest more fun than doing the same daily quests that don't change...or do they change as one progresses? Basically trying to decide if I should participate in this for the next 4 days or just return to where I was questing prior to the Lunar Festival.

Unless you want the achievements or any of the items (mount, pet, etc) you can skip the whole thing and never miss it. It's the just same few dailies and the one boss fight over and over.

Getting the achievement for completing the love is in the air quests is one step in a long process to get the achievement "What a long strange trip it's been", which when completed, gives you a violet proto-drake mount as well as the 310% speed flying (without having to pay the gold).

I sold my Pink Flamingo mount (BOE) for 30k, good enough reason.

Thanks for the responses, everyone.

I saw mention of "What a Long Strange Trip It's Been" while doing the Elders quest. Sounds like something I'd be interested in checking out...down the road.

30k for the flamingo mount????? Excellent!! I've seen them being offered in the trade channel for 5k on my server. Didn't think of the monetary angle. Smiley: grin Errr, what does BOE stand for, please?

Bind on equipped, so you can sell them in AH.

There is also a 'pet' you can purchase with tokens as well. It is the Silver Shafted Arrow which when learned, gives you the 'Peddlefeet' pet. This is a small pet that looks basically the same as the winged Goblin that gives the daily to give a bracelet to a leader. It also can be resold but since it only costs 40 tokens, I think the supply will outweigh the demand for quite a long time although once the new expansion hits, I would imagine that some collectors might want their new Pandas to have all the possible pets right away. Heh

Depends on your goals as others have said.

I ground out the Violet proto meta-achieve on my warlock, who is also my pet/mount collector. This was before they nerfed the requirements so I basically had to get ALL the holiday achieves for it. Since then I've declared myself pretty much done with WoW holiday grinding. I didn't really like doing them but I wanted the proto and achieve on at least one toon.

I have 8 85's and most of them have a fairly sparse collection of mounts and pets; basically whatever I've happened upon. I queue for whatever holiday boss is up because it's quick and an easy shot at pet/mount plus the 18g and whatever gear drops (dissapointed at the 346 garbage for this one btw), but that's about it for me now.

Now that you can BUY the super speed, I guess unless you're really into getting achieves, pets, mounts, or just find holiday stuff fun, there's no more "point" to it than any other daily hub.

I live in Florida, and the only pink Flamingos I see are at the zoo or theme park. And I live around a lot of "old" people lol.

Anywho, yeah the only other reason to do the event is for the Long, Strange trip. It does take a year to do, but I'm glad I did it on at least one toon.

I need childrens week on one character and ... midsummer fire festival on another? that'll give me 3 characters with the Long Strange Trip completed...

it works for what I do, which has mostly been soloing stuff due to my internet connection but thanks to Love is in the Air, and having 3 of the other 7 characters stuck "just" needing the bouquet of roses... which only seems to come from Cata dungeons I have been running them, finding the connection stable enough currently that I may keep running them to get some gear beyond the event. Must remember though it's random, with strangers across realms... must NEED on items that are an upgrade they're going to need if they need it or greed / DE it and if they DE it and win the roll you lose the item... so better to NEED.... old habits die hard, I missed out on 3 upgrades from regular dungeons...

Thank you for all for the additional responses. I decided to collect the charms while doing quests to level what was my first WoW character and has now become my alt. I already have enough charms for two of the goblin pets. Hmmmmm...let's see, 4 more days...might actually get the flamingo mount after all. I mean, since it's the unofficial state bird of FL, it's only "patriotic." Smiley: grin

It's not living around any "old" people (old is definitely relative...lol); it's a certain subsection of people who are from certain areas of the country and retire in certain areas of FL. I grew up in South FL and never saw any of these "lovely" yard ornaments, but now live in Central FL and see one at least weekly - more if I went to certain retirement communities.

It's a regional thing. Smiley: wink

Geez...you guys get out much? *grins*

I actually don't see them (yard flamingos) as much as I did years ago...(still see maybe one a week/month in certain areas)...that could be the disconnect here. I'm thinking I may be a bit *coughs* older and there was a time when they were really popular in certain areas. I'd usually see them in the same yards next to those whirly things that spin in the wind and a host of other doo-dads.

Garden gnomes I've only seen on TV. "The Psychology Behind Yard Ornaments" would be an interesting research topic. Smiley: wink

lol I'm sure you're not THAT old. I do remember them being pretty popular a while ago with the pinwheels (I'm assuming that's what you're talking about lol), but they're no longer around this area at least.

Haha I used to make myself lightheaded with those when I was younger. I'd try to make them spin as fast as I could with my breathing on them lol. Good times...good times...

If the announcement of Blizzard comes true and collected pets get shared account-wide this won't have much of an impact.

Oh! I didn't see that announcement. Are they talking even past pets or ones that haven't been "bound" to the character yet?

If I recall correctly they want to make all (or maybe most?) pets on our characters account-wide. So you can use every pet you collected on every character for the pet-battles.
But at this stage it is mostlys speculation since MoP is still far ahead of us and many things are subject to change. ;)

Ah ok...thank you. Sounds like a "wait and see."
