When did Raw get scholar, is the world ending?

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you people?

I just don't have enough accounts to downrate him out of scholar--I mean...

Back in the early days of this internet phenomenon, you know, before graphics, I used to play a MUD. Now this particular game had one character class choice that let you be more powerful than the other classes, but the catch was you only had one life. It was quite entertaining, and a very different approach to the usual methods at that time.

Now get off my lawn!

STRANGER DANGER!!!

Sure, I played games ages ago where that was the only option and it was frustrating to put a lot of time in and then have it just erased in a clumsy moment. I'm not even one who dies often while leveling so it's not a matter of me not being careful enough, I just don't really like the idea of abandoning a character that I have put time into.

You make me remember the days I used to play Z-Angband.

A specially modded version of Z-Angband.

I actually downloaded the source code, modified it myself (using some basic C++ knowledge) and recompiled it (yes, I had a C++ compiler installed on my computer at the time), and...

1). Removed rapid multiplication from certain mobs (lice, etc). I toned it waaaay down, so that the multiplying thing was much more sensible.
2). Made it so that it didn't overwrite the character save if you die.
3). Tweaked how much money you lose when you hit certain traps or run into thieves.
4). Made it so that spellbooks cannot be burned, lost, or destroyed by any means.

Had MUCH more fun afterwards!

You should look into NetHack.

Nothing but fun and easy gameplay. Emphasis on "fun" and "easy".

I've heard of Nethack, but never really got into it. I wanted a simple dungeon crawl game, and Z-Angband was cool for its time (I played the graphical one, the Windows version that used a BMP file to replace the symbols with recognizable graphics), but the only thing I didn't like was the ridiculousness of "you die, you lose your character permanently" and the above things I changed.

Otherwise, I liked it.

Never "beat" the game, though. Even with the changes I made to it, Floor 80+ starts getting absolutely ridiculous. Even with maxed out stats and ridiculously powerful artifacts.
