Finding Elders for Lunar FestivalFollow

My first Lunar Festival. Smiley: smile I didn't realize how time-consuming this is going to be, but looks like some fun rewards.

My main question, thus far, is: Can I go to the areas where elders were added since Cataclysm if I don't have that expac?

Oh, thought of another question: I'm Alliance; am I supposed to collect the coins in the Horde areas?

These might be really noobie questions...thank you in advance for responses/suggestions.

As alliance there are only "3" horde specific elders to get, which may not be possible until you are level 80ish.

No I don't believe you can get the cata elders until you have that expansion, especially if there's one in Deepholm etc, haven't really looked though.

Knock out the exploration of the zones while you're there IF you've got to epic flying by now that is ;) Otherwise save it for when you can fast fly.

if you low lvl you probably won't get all of the coins but you will probably get enough for the outfits. And yes you can go into the horde areas to get coins.

Oh good. Didn't want to miss out on a bunch of coins by not being able to get to them. Smiley: smile

Logic tells me I shouldn't be able to, but iirc, I read that regardless of the expac one has it still is the same "world." Guess I'll find out.

Level 55 Paladin so can't fly yet. That will be wonderful when I can, though.

Thank you for your help. Smiley: smile

Great re: going into the horde areas...probably very carefully, lol. Will look forward to getting outfits; if I'm lucky maybe one or two other things.

It "is" the same world in that other than a couple phased areas (ice-crown and vash'jir come to mind) a level 85 (obviously has cata or wouldn't BE 85 and a newly created with the basic game in their racial starting zone can stand and view each other, communicate, maybe trade mats, heck they could even quest with you in your zone if they haven't previously done those quests that's where "it's the same world" applies.

It's "the same world" but you not having Cata may not be able to enter the cata zones, you can't go to northrend on the boat unless you have the Lich King expansion.. you can't port to the cata zones until you're high enough level and have done the questing in the zone enough to unlock them etc.

Just an update. There are 3 officially "horde" elders in 3 of the 4 horde capital cities, but there are some that will be tough to get in the rest of the world too unless you have an 85 to draw their fire... crossroads, razor hill and another one that slips my mind are all right beside a couple rather aggressive guards who will make mince-meat one shot out of you at your level.

I've experienced the mince-meat situation a couple of times. Not pretty.

The first was in Booty Bay when I didn't realize there are two Flight Masters - Horde & Alliance. I was just thrilled to FIND the FM (or anyone for that matter!) in Booty Bay, so clicked on the Horde FM and BOOM - dead! I'm like, WTH??? I figured maybe I accidentally hit auto attack, but fortunately I was in IM with someone I'd recently met and she told me about the two FMs. /facepalm

Then I was involved in the dragon quest chain in the Badlands. I could see the little skull on my mini-map indicating the boss mob to kill, got close to it and WHAM - dead before I could blink. Tried that again - dead in less than 1 sec...again. Searched for info online and found out there are two paths up the mountain and the one I kept taking was Horde territory. Gah!!! Maybe the NPC quest giver could have given me a heads up on that...lol.

And last night I was traveling somewhere new (the zones are starting to blur together if I've never fought in them), stayed on the road, wasn't in Horde territory that I was aware of and again, before I could blink I was dead. Looked at the chat box and had been ambushed by a Horde ranger NPC at long range. Took another death or two to be able to rez and use my hearth stone before the ranger spotted me again.

Think I'll just pass on the Horde Elder stones. Smiley: wink

Yeah, the only one that I am not looking forward to getting is the elder in Org. The one in Undercity is easy enough (aka few guards) and Thunder Bluff doesn't seem bad (aka I will probably die a lot getting it somehow) but the one in Org is apparently near the flight master (which is in the middle of town). At least as a paladin I got bubble to protect my butt. Smiley: tongue

I helped quite a lot, actually. Thanks. Where is the elder in Undercity? That one's not listed on the guide.

Is there only one in an Alliance capitol. I'm trying to figure how to go about visiting Darnassus. Even at 85, it should be a toughie. Island and all, plus those gawky, self-righteous night elves are not at all hospitable toward their not-so-distant cousins.

Thunder Bluff wouldn't be hard if an Alliance member could fly. The elder is on the Elder Rise with only a few middling NPCs nearby. Drop in, do your business, and bug out before reinforcements arrive.

I'm currently having fits wandering around maraudon looking for that guy - it's a dungeon I barely know.

Not "near" the flight master, "beside" the FM. And the area is usually swarming with horde heavy hitters, because of the nearby Zeppelin towers and stable.

If you can pull that one off, I'd love to hear the story.

As long as you can fly and not attract attention from halfway across the zone Ogr isn't too bad fly in high to avoid the wandering patrols until you're at the rise the elders in and drop down. Got it on an 80 last night, and an 85 has even less problem.

Since I'm on a PVE server, one of the wildest things I ever saw: I was sitting about Level 75, catching the Zep from Org to TB. Just as we slipped the pier, a human L85 Paladin dropped in and proceeded to attack the PVP guards. Given the level difference, i didn't even consider lighting my PVP indicator, just sat on my hands. No guts, no glory - but in a confine pace against a tank, it would've been my guts and his glory.

Keep in mind, the Elder event lasts 3 weeks. Jan 22 thru Feb 11. So, lots of time for that, right?

Nooo...the Darkmoon Faire AND Love is in the Air both start on Feb 5.
That 3rd week will make every achievement ***** delirious, insane and crazy. Especially if you have a few alts you're trying to get stuff done with. Smiley: oyvey

That's why I'm trying to knock out the elder stuff now, only need to complete it on 5 characters on my main server, the other 5 have it from previous years except maybe the cata elders as I don't recall doing it and my version of altoholic doesn't list the "cata elders" under the achievement window.

Darnassus proved easy. Long flight around to avoid overflying the city, but getting the coin was a snap
