This is how I joined just about every decent guild I was a part of prior to the end of WotLK. I jump in a PuG group, and if things went well and we all liked each other, I'd join up. Also got a lot of recruits this way once I'd accepted the guild leader mantle. We'd PuG the last spot(s) and make a friend or two, and they were welcome to join up with us anytime.

It started being harder to use those methods at the end of WotLK and in Cata. I don't see why you couldn't though.

I would think it is greatly dependent on the way one asks. Some guilds (at least on EQ and people are people everywhere so I would think this could exist in WoW as well) are known for being a bit heavy-handed in what is considered "stealing" guild members. There is an EQ guild on my server with which I'm slightly familiar that has a really bad reputation for this due to the GL's tactics.

Personally, I'd rather it be the reverse and how I switched EQ guilds back in the day after being in one for 4 years: I began grouping with a few people in another guild; really liked them, their play style, etc. I expressed interest in the guild and was invited on a mini-raid (not like today's idea of raiding) to meet more of the guild members and then I made the decision that I wanted to switch guild.

As another poster mentioned, I would rather a guild be a bit pickier for want of a better word than just throwing spaghetti on the wall and see what sticks.

So, Ovshanevo, did you decide to quit that guild?
