I have recently cut ties with the FF brand due to SE not being able to get their act together on FFXIV.

I have decided to join up with playing WoW since I have a close friend of mine who plays. I am really enjoying how Blizzard has the UI set up, the game play seems very user friendly and casual gamer friendly. The only thing I am having a hard time adjusting to are the toonesque like graphics. It's definately different than what I am accustomed to.

So far so good I am really enjoy it.

I do have some questions though. I am still in the starting area of the Blood Elves and am a hunter. When and how do I get to switch out my pet for a different pet? Will the questing I am doing eventually land me in a main area that is more populated than the starting areas?

Also, please tell me there is an AH, I think I will cry if I signed up for another game that is lacking a proper fuctioning market system >_<;

Thanks in advance for answering questions. If I have more, I will be sure to ask!

there is an AH, go into silvermoon city and talk to a guard... or on your mini-map icon there is a locator there, click through towns people and pick Auctioneer from the list, you'll see an icon come up when you get close to the auctioneer, the guard will give you a flag on the map or minimap perhaps directing you there.

Hunters learn how to change pet at level 10? least that's when the originally got to learn how to use a pet which they are given right from level 1 now. Look through your spell menu's or find your class trainer, if "tame beast" is an upcoming spell you'll get it when you level that far. If it's in your spells already pick an animal you want to tame and hit that spell..

As for graphics I like the 'cartoony' look, I can get involved without needing to see human-real graphics for my downtime

Also in each racial capital you'll find a hero's board usually near the AH that will direct you to what zone you should perhaps be questing in next, each city will give you a destination that is "nearby"

I'll answer what I can real quick.

You can tame new animals at level 10. www.petopia.com is the WoW hunters place to go for pet info.

The blood elf starting area and city aren't the most populated areas but you will eventually get to areas and cities with more people. Orgrimmar is where most of the horde hang out.

And yes there is an AH in WoW, find your way to silvermoon city and ask a guard. All major cities have an AH.

Welcome to World of Warcraft.

Until you reach level 10, you are stuck with the pet you already have. When you hit 10, you will learn Tame Beast and actually be able to control your pet.

As far as more populated areas go, how do you mean? More players? Eh, not really. That's not any fault of Blizzard's I don't think, it's just a bi-product of level 85's not having any reason (aside from loremaster achievement) to go to any of the lower level areas. There's still a decent amount of people leveling toons, but not a whole lot.

Yes, there is an AH. Smiley: grin There's two in Silvermoon City. The easiest one to find is in the Bazaar, which is the first side area you can get to when you walk into SMC. In fact, there's a way to cut through to get there faster. As you walk in the entrance, you will see a mail box in front of a doorway. That's actually an Inn I believe, and if you walk inside you can walk through it and end up in the Bazaar area without having to walk all the way down the hall and then walk all the way down the Bazaar to get to the AH or bank. Before you get your mount, it's a good idea to look out for these short cuts. It'll save you a lot of time.

Just a quick addendum: Petopia.com does not exist. The site you'll want to visit is wow-petopia.com

Welcome to the game.

The 'easiest' AH to reach in Silvermoon is found by entering the main gate, then guiding right (follow the right hand wall). You will have to pass through one archway, just after passing the first aid trainer and fishing trainer. If you hit the bank and mailbox, you've gone too far. Retrace your steps and go into the large-ish area just to your left.

Hunters don't 'get' a pet per se. You start with a pet, but you need to tame subsequent pets. If I recall, the icon for that looks something like a hand holding a slingshot. You can only tame pets your level or lower. Some mobs cannot be tamed, but most beasts can be. At higher levels you can gain the ability to tame 'exotic' beasts if you spec Beast Master.

It is helpful to place a freezing trap in front of you before you start to channel your tame. There are two ways to store your pet. You can 'stable' pets that are not part of your main crew by finding a stable master near an in. When you start you only have one pet that you can access easily; later you will get extra slots.

There are three general kinds of pet, but read petopia for more information about the various categories. Very roughly, so called tenacity pets are tank-ish while cunning and ferocity are DPS.

There are two ways to switch out pets. You can go to the stable master and rearrange your main menu of pets. You can also switch pets on the fly by using dismiss and summoning another pet; however, you must have reached a level where you actually have access to more than one pet. You'll know when you reach that point, because you'll train an additional skill for the extra slot.

Actually, cunning are more of a balanced pet. They do decent damage and they can take a little bit of a beating. From what I hear, pvp'ers generally will use cunning pets. Ferocity pets are pure dps.

Welcome to a great - and addictive - experience. For me, the "cartoonish" look helps me stay grounded that it IS a game. Besides, compared to the PC RPGs I played for years, and some modern games like Wizard 101, the graphics are downright photo-realistic.

Blood elf hunter is going away my favorite type, and my current alt. As other have said, at level ten you'll be able to learn the Call Pet spell. Really, your dragonhawk isn't bad - at high levels they're flame-blasting wonders. But we all want more or other pets. From here on out, though, you don't just buy them. You have to trek to where the type you want can be found, then tame them - often as they'r trying to kill you. You'll eventually be able to keep five in your immediate "quiver" (though only one at a time can be active) and up to 20 more in stables found in most cities. WWW.Petopia.com gives an excellent compendium of pet types, their abilities and locations. If you quest solo and not nuch with others, you might want to make your second pet a spider. Their web ability can freeze enemies for the few precious seconds you need to kill them or bug out.

There is an auction house - a frustrating/exhilarating place. They're only located in major cities and you'll learn to time your AH visits for when you're going in for class or profession training. There are remote control auction bots like Auctioneer, but I prefer to do it myself. Over time, it'll be your primary income source as that's where you'll sell the stuff you make or gather.

I recommend staying in the Blood elf starting zones until at least level 20. At that point you'll be able to learn the riding skill and get your first mount, which speeds up you movement. If by 'more populated, you mean more NPCs, that more or less averages out over Azeroth. If you're seeking other human players. that's a tad more iffy. As has already been noted, high level players don't generally spend much time in beginner's areas, though as a blood elf, you'll need to return at least briefly to Silvermoon to get you faster mount. You will see a few more once you move out into the world, but realistically, never a lot.

There are ways to improve it. Try to find and join a good guild - you won't spend that much time adventuring with them, but in a good guild, members are generally online for encouragement and assistance. Your server can also make a difference. I used to play on a server two time zones behind my own - even that small a time lag meant that I saw few players, and many of them kids. By changing servers, I lost a few levels of experience (easily regained on a new toon) but gained a great guild and much more populous world. Also, you'll generally find more 'real' characters n PvP servers - that's the point of PvP, after all.

Ferocity pet = damage
Tenacity pet = tank
Cunning pet = utility

The DPS loss between a Ferocity and Cunning pet is ~200 for a Marksmanship Hunter and negligible for a Survival Hunter.

Players who focus on PvP usually go with Cunning pets because it allows them to get a pet with a snare/root. Maybe because of this talent as well.

And again, Petopia is found at www.wow-petopia.com not www.petopia.com (site doesn't exist).

Thanks guys for the welcome and for answering my questions. I really appreciate it.

Just a quick note as I didn't see it mentioned through my glancing... If you want to tame a pet, your current pet cannot be active (meaning you must dismiss said pet first).

(Unless this has all changed since the last time I tamed, but I'm pretty sure the above is correct)
