I'm looking to solo grind in some of the vanilla instances for some blues to transmog for all the classes. I'm not looking for sets, just weaps and gear that the Blizz artists really did a fine job designing. If you remember a particular piece that you Hated parting with just because it looked so good could you share it here? Obviously, I'm referring to appearance, not stats.
PS - Broad request, I know, but with 10 classes (I think) didn't want to specify plate armor, off-hands, etc.

For a hunter, the epic staff and bow from the vanilla quest line.
While they are not great pieces of artwork, the staff is actually quite mundane looking, I think the set is rather nifty still.
And while not from Vanilla, the Sunfury bow of the OP'd is still one of my favourites also. It took what seemed like forever before I finally acquired it back in the Kara days, and I swore I would keep it. That turns out to have been a good thing.
I am a little bitter that there are no good hunter 2 handed axes, as I would love to transmog one into the Arcanite Ripper.

I know you mentioned Vanilla - but there are a lot of really good looking things in the BC dungeons (both normal and heroic). You can find recolors of old vanilla sets plus the dungeon set 3 sets (which are generally nice though not as fancy as raid gear). I have picked up some really nice weapons while grinding BC dungeons for gear. I have even gotten whispers about the two handed sword I got from one of the runs though I can't quite remember the name of it. It's not the Greatsword of Horrid Dreams but it's similar and meant for dps and not casters. I have found that BC heroics are generally soloable by most classes at level cap.
I know there are a lot of sweet weapons in vanilla as well though generally the nicest are in the higher dungeons and the old raids. Other than the tier gear, I can't really think of much in the way of armor that stands out as being exceptionally nice. BWL isn't really soloable but MC is by many (if not all) classes.
