After you get done with the quests at Booty Bay you will get an option to go to Western Plague Lands, Dustwallow Marsh, or Feralas. I think WPL is the better option of the three, mainly due to setting you up for Eastern Plague Lands.

Thank you for that tip, Criminy. *smiles*

I got my blood elf to Booty Bay, put an item in AH for her, logged elf back on and got the message that one can't bid/purchase from themselves. That must have changed since I was following directions I found on how to transfer items between factions. Oh well.

While I was researching the mobs that drop the raptor hatchling, I came across posts about Lil'Timmy and the white kitten pet found in SW, so now I'm hanging there for a bit to see if he spawns. Several hours at least in game thus far - accomplished nothing in the way of exp but traveling around is helping familiarize myself with more areas.

You don't have to join a raid, it's just a heroic. Smiley: smile I know 85 seems a long way off now, but it won't take that long. Back when the game first came out, it would take a dedicated player months to hit level cap. Now one can do it in a few weeks. Of course, if you don't play every day for multiple hours, it'll take you longer.

Heroics only require 5 people. They're basically just like the LFD tool, only they're only for level 85 people, and they're more difficult. Still, once you have the appropriate gear, they aren't too hard.

Self transferring through the neutral AH has never worked, you need at least 2 separate accounts, either both yours or a friend you trust to either list or buy the stuff and both better be standing at the AH ready to buy at the time they are posted.
You might be able to mail some BoA (bind on account) gear cross faction but you won't get any of that until you get someone to 80 or 85 anyway.

Oh, that's good to know. Someone I met in game told me that a heroic raid was multiple groups. I do feel better knowing it's a regular raid. Still a bit annoyed that one has to wait that long to get the raptor back...lol.

I'm amazed at how quickly levels go, especially since I'm in the "casual gaming" category. I do play multiple hours a day but, at least by EQ measures, I'm not into grinding levels; I enjoy the scenery along the way. Smiley: smile A few hours playing WoW and I feel like I've made some progress. I am also really enjoying the stories that develop with the quests. Level 85 and lil raptor - here I come!

Well, I can understand their confusion because Zul'Gurub used to be a raid. When the Cataclysm happened, ZG was shut down, and then in patch 4.1 it was released as a heroic, redesigned.

Also, there are regular raids and heroic raids. Heroic raids aren't any different other than difficulty level. But most of the time when someone says heroic, they mean the 5-man heroic unless they specifically say heroic raid.

What gets confusing is that when I have a question re: game, I try to look for the answer online first and while I was reading about how the AH works, I came across many articles/posts that explained how to transfer items cross-alliances. Several posts recommended creating a level 1 toon for just that purpose. Later, after it didn't work for me, I found a post that mentioned it no longer works. Now you're saying it never worked. Smiley: confused One thing I'm sure of - it didn't work for me. Smiley: wink

Well for a long time you couldn't have horde and alliance characters on the same server on the same account (was that really a PVP server only restriction?) so to even consider a level 1 that would have come from your second account as per the first restriction.

I only started playing after BC so ability to do things prior to that I can't comment on with a leg to stand on ;)
Thanks Mazra for clearing that up

It was possible in the game's early days, but it was changed a long time ago. Some speculate that it was during patch 1.9 since that patch introduced a major Auction House overhaul.

I've played on PvP servers since 2004 and it's only recently that you've been able to create characters of both factions on PvP servers (used to be limited to one faction only), so I've never used it.

Terminology can be confusing.

Instance: an area that is unique to each group that enters it, meaning that while everyone sees the same things in Zul'HowindahelldoesIsaythis, each group is in their own version of it and there is no competition or cooperation in downing the mobs. Some areas, such as those for battle grounds, are also instanced.

Dungeon: often used to refer to 5 man instances.

Raid: 10 and 25 man instances. Although there are multiple groups, they are put together as a "raid" which has the same general function as a "group" in a 5 man instance; you all goes in, you all sees and kills the same stuff, you all have to be in the same instance at the same time. Because of their larger scale, raids may be outdoors more often than "dungeons" but that might just be my perception.

Heroic: a dungeon or raid with the difficulty and rewards turned up.

Phased: A part of the regular map that can seem different to players at different stages of the game. Unlike an instance, you can have two people wandering around in the same area but unable to interact because they are at different points in the game. For example, if there is a quest line that requires you to do something to open up a particular sequence of events, it may be phased so that only players in the same stage of the quests can interact.

So, a heroic raid would be more than one group (organized under a broader grouping as a raid) with the difficulty set higher than the same thing on "normal".

PvP servers were the only ones that had the restriction of only having toons on one faction. PvE and RP servers never had that restriction.

That was priceless!! I find myself saying that in my mind a lot in game and REALLY glad I never have to pronounce these names out loud.

Thank you for taking the time to list the various terminologies; even though I've been playing an MMORPG for years I never got into raiding - maybe went on a few "milder" ones back in the day.

Heh, totally understandable, Gwenorgan. The MMORPGs with which I'm familiar all evolve and change over the years. The friend who suggested I try WoW has been filling me in on some of the lore and changes since the various expansions - very interesting.

Thank you, Mazra, and Pigtails for more insight on the Alliance/Horde AH issue. I need to begin paying attention to the dates of various posts/articles that I find. Smiley: blush
