Most worthless item you have sold at the AHFollow

#1 Dec 21 2011 at 8:34 PM Rating: Excellent
Sometimes I like to put up worthless junk in the AH just to see if it sells. I don't even care if I lose money on it putting it up over and over. It's that satisfaction I get when someone buys some worthless junk I'm selling. My best story would have to be some jagged arrows my warrior had in her possession after taking a year off of WOW. Obviously ammo is no longer part of the game, but it was in my inventory of my long time inactive character. I had to re-list it once, but it sold. I think I only put it up for a couple of silver, but the satisfaction was in that it sold.

I tried to sell the ammo of my Orc Hunter (frostbite ammo), but I haven't had any luck so far, but I'll keep trying. One thing I'm curious about, is what happened to my ammo bag. I think during the patch that removed ammo, my ammo bag converted into a regular bag. Anyone know anything about this?

Occasionally I might put up white items, but they usually don't sell. I always put up the double mail coif (a grey item), but that grey item actually has some use. It's the first mail helmet available. It still took me two tries to sell the last one I picked up, however.

I'd love to sell my bag of marbles, but it's soulbound unfortunately. All my alliance characters still own their marbles if they quested in Westfall.

I'd like to hear your stories of worthless junk you have sold in the AH.

Ice cold milk at 95 silver each. Granted, it isn't exactly worthless and it is more useful than usual because of Winterveil, but face it there is usually an inn almost right next to the AH. I understand the eggs are a bit grindy, but really ... milk? Worse yet, I'm not talking "I once sold", I've sold stacks of the stuff.

I'm disappointed that I have yet to sell the deed to Thandol Span. On the other hand, I'm glad they put it in the game so I can try.

LOL. Only 95 silver? I sold multiple ice cold milks for 10 GOLD a piece. I put it up there just out of curiousity and sure enough all had sold by the next morning. I couldn't believe it. I did it only one other time. I felt too exploitative...

The amazing thing is that anyone dumb enough to pay 10 gold for a glass of milk would have 10 gold pieces in the first place.

hmm, I did buy some milk and check the AH, although a banker character had already put some on for 66s a piece. I listed mine at 64 s a piece. We'll see if they sell.

I have also sold recipes that are vendor bought, but they are out of the way vendors, so some people have legitimate reasons to buy the item (convenience).

I sell eggs every year for about 10g apiece, as well as milk.

Though this has NOTHING on how I used to make money when I played Knight Online. I used to set up my shop inches from the fireworks vendor, then sell fireworks at 50-100x the price I paid for them.

I used to make a killing every year in FFXI selling the letter eggs for the Easter event.

I like to sell vendor sold tradeskill items.

Copper Rods
Mining picks
Skinning knives
blacksmith hammers

Depending on the server and undercutting I get between 10g-50g each for them. Usually able to sell at least 1 of the above a day.

level 77-79 Catacylsm greens sell quite well on my server. Smiley: smile

I don't usually sell worthless items. Though I do seem to remember dumping my excess coal there once. Smiley: lol

Those grime-encrusted gnomer drops that you need to use the polishing machine in (after I got the quest starting ring from one and did that quest chain.. though not since changes...

Seriously on the vendor sold tradeskill items? I get the army-knife that does it all for less than that between my 10 characters.

BC level greens are consistent sellers on the AH for me, 35G a pop for some items, if I had any need for the enchanting mats they're 10G a stack so easy enough to buy something when needed, or just DE the ones that don't sell.

For a while the various pages from Stranglethorn were selling as most hadn't caught on that there was only one page missing from the book now?

Especially since there is an NPC that sells the Ice Cold Milk in stacks of 5 for <10 silver, and usually this NPC is standing no more than 200 yards from the AH in most cities.

Old "Pirate" Map sells regular for 10 gold. Don't know if it's Bloodsail Admiral completists or people just lured by the lengthy description. I've woke up some mornings to find wrong things in my backpack, so I can't laugh.

I sold enchanting vellums for 10g apiece well into WoTLK (or was it Cata?) when they became purchasable from vendors.

WAYYY back in the day (I think 2005) I used to use Auctioneer against people to make money. I would list something no one needed like crystals from Un'Goro for 100g apiece (which was equivalent to at least 1000g today). I'd list them every day for a month at that price. Then, one day I'd list them at 25g and about half the time I'd sell 10-20 of them! Auctioneer used to have a feature that looked for "bargains" and people would blindly buy what their UI told them to... I WAS JUSTICE!

How much did you lose in AH fees relisting the crystals every day, though? Seems like an expensive way to trick AH campers.

I think it was a couple silver ... It wasn't expensive. I'm not stupid.

Reading through this thread, I can't help but think the title should have been:

Most worthless item you have sold at the AH - to someone other than one of your own alts.

Yes! I looked forward to that event each year as one I could actually make money on. People would pay insane amounts for a freaking Egg lol. Loved it!

From what I remember, I thought you're unable to purchase your own merchandise from the AH. I could have sworn you get an error of some sort. I could be wrong though.

Yeah you can't buy from your own posts cross faction, you can certainly outbid yourself on an alt on trying to buy someone elses auction, but when you only use one character to buy in the AH that goes away :) Otherwise the mailbox will get things to your own alts without use of the AH, and to your own characters on your own account mail is instant.
