Do experience points matter at all once you're at L85? been chasing them for so long, picking target and quests because of them, etc. Since I can no longer advance, does it really mater what quests I take or mobs I kill (excluding PVP, of course)?

Nope. If you do quests at level cap, you get gold depending on how much experience you would have gotten if you weren't at level cap. But there's nothing from killing mobs except for loot.

Welcome to level cap. Time to do whatever you want.

Personally, I'm leveling fishing. I've also positioned myself further away from my window as unhealthy thoughts have been sneaking up on me lately.

Fishing is quite entertaining, yes? No? Maybe? Shoot me?

Although it may no longer seem like you advance at level 85, that isn't really true. Now comes leveling your gear and skill (by skill I mean your skill at the game, not your professions). Contrary to common believe, 85 isn't the end. Its just the beginning. And being 85 doesn't mean you're ready for anything with an 85 requirement. Now you want to collect justice points and run heroics to increase your item level. Although there are always exceptions, your main aim is to get pieces of gear that increase your item level. Higher item level generally (please note generally) improves your performance and increases the dungeons you can join.

And as the previous post states, you also get cold for doing quests. Especially at max level there are daily quests designed solely for the purpose of giving 85's gold. Tol Barad are the easiest to get at, but if you'e quested in Hyjal you may have access to or be close to the Firelands dailies, and, if you've quested in Deepholme the same is true for the Therazane quests.

Now the leveling takes more thought and focus. You have gear, skill, professions, knowledge, and reputation to level and depending on your class and spec and what you plan on doing you'll need to figure out which is the most beneficial for you to attack right off the bat.

Somewhat. You just dinged, so you'll be building rep with some factions. You may need to finish some quest chains to unlock dailies.

You'll also want to look for quests that unlocked as you leveled. Off the top of my head, I don't recall when Firelands unlocks, but you'll want to start that grind early because it has daily caps and you can't get around them with a tabard.

Roll another character?

I'm on my 3rd 85, just starting to do some gearing and watching the stats boost insanely over the quest rewards is kind of funny.

But I have an 82 an 81 and and 80 that will all get more play time than the 85's will for a bit. I don't do anyone favours when we wipe and I release (used to be what you did on a wipe) and fail to get the group res and can't find the portal to get back in to continue a run I've never seen before. I'll stick to running dungeons with my friends when they're on while I get familiar with the process. If they're not on it's alt time.

You don't get XP but the gold boost is pretty nice from questing, I pushed one character through outlands for achievement, and another bumped to northrend as soon as possible afterwards, I had 4K in the end on one from rewards and over 10K on the one who stayed to do those quests (that'd change somewhat if I ran as many quests on the one who skipped much of it)

ETA - you're far from not being able to advance now. 85 fresh ding with no forethought leaves you looking for what rep to grind for rewards (shoulder enchants, decent items etc) running dungeons gearing up, running raids gearing up... and you can always get your feet wet in PVP but if you're going to have ANY hope of enjoying that experience grab yourself a cheap set of PVP gear so you go in with resilience as a stat and don't get splattered all over the wall. It's not fun.

Funny thing is, I really don't want to shelve this guy. Now that I finally think I know HOW to play a hunter, I'm having a hoot with him. I know I need to start the gear grind, but I already took the time off to max my first aid and fishing, went on a profitable hide hunting safari on all four continents, went back and kicked around a couple of bosses I had to ask for help with before. Now I'm revisiting Twilight Highlands because I spent so little time there while leveling.

And although I know jack squat about raiding, I still want to do it. Maybe go back and work the argent Tournament for an unusual mount. And maybe go out and collect an alternate stable of pets. Since I haven't seen anything about a limit, I'm wondering how many hunters have pet collections - just for fun.

There is just way too much there to do it all on the way up. I intend to see all of it.

I do have a level 20 rogue hanging around that I may start working on, but I suspect I'm just an itinerant ranger at heart.

It's downright amazing. You sound like you're having..fun? Fun?!
It's been a while since I've read a post like this. Smiley: tongue

Seriously tho, there is no law that you must start the gear grind to start raiding asap. I'm sure I annoyed the hell out of my friends and guilds when I took a month (or longer) to grind out rep in Outland and NR so I could get pets and mounts wanted. Not to mention the achievements.
But, it's all still there waiting. It won't disappear. Go for it.

Just an FYI, as a hunter you're limited to 25 pets at a time. 5 with you and another 20 in the stable.

You can get as many non-combat pets as you want though.

if you belong to a guild, just know that the more exp a quest "would" have given you, the more guild exp it gives.

and that reflects both general guild experience, as well as your own ranking within the guild.

if you are already exhausted with your guild, and your guild is also level 25, then I guess it really makes no difference.

I've always referred to the highest level of reputation as "Exhausted", because well.. you will probably BE exhausted after doing all the mind-numbing quests and farming to get there.

READ noxxic.com to discover the types and minimum numbers of stats you need to never miss Raid bosses, to max out your dps, to get through to damage other players and to protect yourself from other players.

To travel the raiding road (I ADORE raids) do as many heroic dungeons as possible to gear up. Start with justice points gear (you can exchange honour points for more justice points). Move up to collecting Valour point gear. In the middle of that you should be able to start raiding, as long as you gem and enchant everything as you go. You will need exalted Hyjal and Therazane Reputation for head and shoulder enchantments. You can aquire rep more easily by wearing Hyjal and Therazane Tabards in dungeons.

Look in your "Dungeon Journal" on your display. In there it describes all the dangerous special moves Raid and dungeon Bosses make, which pretty much tells you how you need to behave during each main fight. So don't be shy about joining "Looking For Raid" groups.

There's also the PvP endgame path to to follow. If you don't do well in arenas starting off, max out all your top level purple Honour point gear. You should do well enough in arenas after that to start collecting the conquest point gear. In arenas, especially 2s, it's rather rock paper scisssors, the way the classes work against each other. If I get a melee stuck to me I pretty much die at once. If my teamate/s can keep the enemies' melees off me, or there aren't any melees, I can often kill other players in seconds. Other times arenas turn into games of attrition lasting 10 or so minutes. They're fun, once you have enough Resilience. And there's got to be at least one battleground you like enough to farm points during its " bg weekend".

Hyjal is the Intellect helm 'chant, Ramkahen is for Agility. OP is a hunter. Also, you can bypass the Therazane rep grind by picking up Inscription.

All this talk of exhausted and exalted makes me think of the their ******* son: exhalted.

Sometimes he goes by the name exhaulted, but that's primarily on every EU server.

That surplus of 'u's won't spend itself. They have to stay on top of it, lest they be buried in a giant pile of em.

The journey is the game.

However try the “end game” for yourself and make up your own mind, but don’t get sucked in by the grind addiction.

It's all a grind addiction. Chasing the proverbial carrot. People say end game is where the game is at due to that's where Blizzard puts most of their time at. That is where the challenge* is at and gratification can be reached. I know I didn't get a sense of aww when I turned in 20 bear ***** for the 10th time.

*Challenge can very from person to person making it subjective and rather annoying to talk about. So lets not go into details about it.
