I don't even know how this got into detailed explanations of how to gem and reforge your gear.

If you're consistently doing <10k Avg DPS, changing your gems or reforging isn't going to help you because you are either:

1). Too Poorly Geared (Buy a couple cheap BoEs or SOMETHING!)
2). Not playing your class properly (rotation, ability priorities, not using abilities, etc).

In the case of #2, Learn how to play the class.

Sure, there are small bonuses to DPS if you re-arrange gems and reforging, but gemming/reforging is not going make that Arcane Mage who somehow does 5k DPS (I've seen this in H-SFK once) suddenly do 10k+ DPS.

I've taken I-330ish craft alts into holiday battles and did 9-10.5k DPS and they had no gems and no enchants at all. If you're doing <8k, it isn't your gems/enchants/reforging. There's something else wrong.

If your intent is to help people why not just give them the right info in the first place. Giving crap information and saying "it's close enough" in the end doesn't do much to help. In the end wrong info is still wrong. If you want your "guide" to be taken seriously take the time to make it good. Don't just throw crap on a page and tell people "follow me or your doing it wrong".

Depends on when in the week you run.

If you run on Tues-Thurs, yeah, you won't have to wait as long.

Try that on, say, Fri or Mon and it is "bleck".

Some people have to work Tues-Thurs.

You act like I don't work, and I'm quite offended by your remark that "some people have to work Tues-Thurs." ... I work a full-time, Monday through Friday job and am going to school at night. I've done runs, when I can get on, all days of the week at different times, and the queue time still has been about 10 minutes. The longest I think I've ever waited was 15.

@Darkpoet2011: Are you really that dense? You get corrected every third post or so from people with clearly more knowledge and a better understanding of this game yet you still insist on giving "advice" and furthermore doing so in a manner that is on the edge of being condescending.
This style of posting will get you nowhere here. Please think long and hard about what kind of reputation you want to build in this community before you post another ill-mannered pile of $%//&$.

#111REDACTED, Posted: Dec 20 2011 at 1:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ok I can see that. Like I said.. this wasn't a perfect post to begin with. Just a small guide to get these lower class people to do a bit more damage and stop using the same excuses they have used for years as their reasons.

I apologize if I offended anyone, but if you are doing over 10K dps why are you even reading these? The post header said it all. And ya I've seen MANY PVP geared healers complain about 102% mitigation tanks being "Squishy" when I can go with a disc priest 90k manna unbuffed and cake walk all the new stuff. Ya There are better gems and I did mention that but the basics I mentioned are good enough to get them by and probably get them to end game as sad as that sounds with a little stronger gear.

Yes standing in fire and all that other stuff is still the basics, and tanks NOT being in Tank gear is another. I think blizzard should actually gear check stats before allowing them to que up... like 70% unbuffed mitigation for Warriors/Pallies.. and 50% for DKS/ and whatever druids are.. " sorry don't have a druid tank yet... still working on it"

And for those who said "Oh I can blow your DPS out of the water" grats... I don't care if you can.. I push what I need to push and I heal what i need to heal and I tank well beyond what I need to tank with what I'm using and don't have a single problem filling any role in a heroic and not being complained at unless it is a baddie who either stands in fire, doesn't get Illidan's buff to keep them from getting fire damage, or stands in fel storm or fails to DPS the flipping hand..

Oh ya speaking of that instance.. why don't people just stack on the tank after Val is dead? The adds will run out of the portals right onto the tank keeping dps flowing and heals safe?! I've been running it that way on my tanks and not having a single problem and people just need to move during that final fel storm the other way AWAY FROM THE PORTAL!!! Meh just a suggestion..

Here's what you do... Here's how you fix this.

You don't ever post again on DarkPoet2011. Instead, you create a new name and forget this ever happened.

On the one hand, we can recognize that there is value in being able to determine if that guy you are considering for your pug is much less experienced and talented than he claims to be and is going to drag everyone else down and cause other players to leave. On the other hand, the WoW community seems to have become so obsessed with efficiency and so adverse to wiping that there is, in my opinion, an unreasonable demand for player skill and gear requirements even for relatively easy content. It's one thing if your VoA tank is in all blues. It's another if you're asking for Ulduar gear for your Naxx run.

The key part is what I underlined. The iLevel requirements are the minimums for a reasonably skilled group to be able to clear an instance. They're also below what you can get by running the previous tier of raids/heroics (especially when you include 359/378 JP gear and 365 gear from Firelands dailies, plus 397 valor gear).

To bring the quote into current context, it's one thing if your HoT tank is in all blues (333 and 346 gear). It's another if you're asking for T12 gear for the same instance.

People critique stuff, especially 'how to' posts.

Anyone who's posted a guide here (well likely anywhere) will tell you critical feedback is part of the process. The classy thing to do when someone points out a potential error is to either:

-make a constructive counter argument
-acknowledge your 'oops' and fix your post

That's how we all learn from each other. It's part of the process.

But to each their own I suppose. Smiley: rolleyes

Regarding getting placed into queues "too early":

If your excuse is inexperience, just don't. The game trained you for 85 levels how to avoid bad stuff. There's just no excuse that flies here, bad stuff is the most obviously choreographed I've ever seen in 6 years of the game, and even if you fail once, no big deal, pick yourself up and learn from it, do better next time.

In all other cases, stuff it. The game is inherently designed to be a social experience, so just because the community sometimes acts like pricks doesn't mean the designers should be walking on eggshells just to protect the fringe cases of people who may not be as comfortably equipped as a full T12 raider. Learn how to make better use of your resources, I was tanking heroics with a bunch of greens thanks to proper teamwork and cc use. The way item budgets work an average item level gives a precise calculation of expected performance capability, and the designers use this as their benchmark. If you're really just not keen on the idea of dealing with open community people, whether because of gear or experience level, then talk to your guildmates and realid friends! Get a group together, get on ventrilo, and walk through it together!

The LFD tool is there to make it easier to facilitate running dungeons. Not to make the actual mechanism of the dungeon brainless.

I already admitted that the community is sometimes toxic, even to itself; that doesn't change the intent set forth by the game's creators.
