150 Pets Guide
This one will be a bit trickier--150 pets is a lot, plus we're leaving out pets that cost money and unobtainable ones so that this guide can help as many players as possible. In fact, there's just over 150 pets a player can obtain as of 4.2 that aren't discontinued, part of the TCG, or from Collectors Editions or the Pet Shop. If you think that spending $10 for a pet is better than watching the AH--that's great--but this guide is not promoting spending money on achievements. A guide to all pets is here.
This achievement won't happen overnight, but luckily, some pets are added each patch so it should gradually get easier.
• Holidays: 22. We've got detailed event guides to all major holidays--check them out.
• Professions: 22. You can learn more about professions and their pets on the pet guide or on our profession pages.
• Neutral vendors: 15. These pets can be found on the AH across multiple expansions.
• Argent Tournament: 12. As the link suggests, you'll need to use the AH or find a friend on the opposite faction to get some of the pets. You can learn more about the currency needed to purchase these pets here.
• Quests: 12. Jubling, Lashtail Hatchling, Mechanical Chicken, Miniwing, Mr. Grubbs, Panther Cub, Withers,Brazie's Sunflower Seeds, Tiny Flamefly, Chicken Egg, Alliance Balloon/Horde Balloon.
• Vendors in Alliance capital cities: 11. Blue Moth Egg, White Moth Egg, Yellow Moth Egg, Cat Carrier (Bombay), Cat Carrier (Cornish Rex), Cat Carrier (Orange Tabby), Cat Carrier (Silver Tabby), Great Horned Owl, Hawk Owl, Rabbit Crate (Snowshoe), Cat Carrier (White Kitten).
• Achievements: 9. Kirin Tor Familiar, Pebble, Perky Pug, Turkey Cage, Reeking Pet Carrier, Little Fawn's Salt Lick,Nuts' Acorn, Brilliant Kaliri, Celestial Dragon--remember, this one doesn't count, as you get it after hitting 150.
• Vendors in Horde capital cities: 8. Black Kingsnake, Brown Snake, Crimson Snake, Prairie Dog Whistle, Cockroach,Golden Dragonhawk Hatchling, Red Dragonhawk Hatchling, Silver Dragonhawk Hatchling.
• Reputation grinds: 8. Rustberg Gull, Nether Ray Fry, Pengu, Tiny Sporebat, Cobra Hatchling, White Tickbird Hatchling, Tickbird Hatchling, Proto-Drake Whelp.
• Raptors: 7. Darting Hatchling, Deviate Hatchling, Gundrak Hatchling, Leaping Hatchling, Ravasaur Hatchling,Razormaw Hatchling, Razzashi Hatchling.
• Zone-specific drops: 7. Disgusting Oozeling, Captured Firefly, Fox Kit, Tiny Shale Spider, Parrot Cage (Hyacinth Macaw), Cat Carrier (Black Tabby), Sprite Darter Egg.

Argh! My lack of reading has lead me to come to conclusions that are not supported by facts. I must edit my initial post to reflect my distaste of the OP.

But... If I do that others can not learn from my mistakes. I must assume this burden so that others may be spared.

I currently have 147 pets. I'm currently grinding for two whelplings I'm missing and hoping for Lumpy from the Winter Veil daily. I will get at least one more pet next Darkmoon, should be able to get 2.

I've seen two Alliance on my server with the Celestial Dragon so I know they've got over 150 but since I don't know them I don't know if they bought any or have TCG/Collector's Edition pets.

As for the original post - this would be much easier to read if it was forum formatted as a list, something like

On a similar note, how many of you druids have over 100 mounts...that you never use :) I never use mounts in any area we can fly - instashift just too good.

I currently have 166 companion pets on my main. It's a little bit of an obsession.

I don't think I even have 25 mounts on my druid. =x The flying ones are pretty much useless, yeah, but the land mounts we have to use in TB and other places you can't fly.
